They did, ESPN NFL 2K5, it sold so much better than Madden '05 that EA bought them out. It's considered one of the best sports games of all time.

Unless you were too young to play video games or was living under some kind of a rock, 2K used to make NFL football games. Last one was ESPN NFL 2K5 but they officially made their last football game with ALL PRO Football 2K8. In 2005, the NFL offered to have their license through an exclusive and EA Sports outbid 2K Sports to obtain the ability to be the only company that create and produce an officially NFL licensed video game.

Imagine if they made an NFL game. I know they are two different games but this is how a sports game should be made. The attention to detail is mind blowing. Madden needs to see this in order to take their game to the next level. If they can't, 2K will gladly do it for them. It's time to give the consumer what they want. They want the return of NFL 2K!
