NBA 2K17 Review 

Yeah I know I'm still waiting for a review that tells the diff from 2k16 and it looks the same with no new features so guess I'm not getting this year basketball game.

if you want an honest unbiased review lmk man, I've been playing 2k for 8 years on hall of fame

still better then 2k14, and 16 - infact last 4-5 years I'd choose this one title and I dont play every title every year or EXPECT for one to be much better then the next, but with all the negativity and the usual "oh no another shit small incremental EA title...another year, passing the buck" all the negativity basically I find this year (and most of the reviews ACROSS the board are basically saying the same thing I am that, this year they are happy and this game is running well, the AI + commentary + graphics + on the game play...passing game, all of that is quite solid...sure its not a HUGE improvement I wouldnt say so either...but Id say its enough for someone who is a basketball fan that hasnt played in years...and would want the most recent, best looking game would (naturally) buy 2k17 and I would say to them, you probably wont be let down...you may actually (gasp) enjoy it...I know I have...albeit I'm not always the hardest to please, but honestly...despite the "pass-screens and weak foul coverage" 2-3 glaring issues...I dont think its all that bad of a presentation...solid, looks good - really are we expecting a MAJOR shift in gameplay and some sort of huge tweaked improved performance from year to year...honestly I do think from 2k15 to 16, to 17 has been incremental improvements, and I would choose 17 over the last 2-3 years..I dont really care what another person says OR the actual score reviewer...if you think it deserves a 7, I'd say an 8 easy. Not groundbreaking, nothing wholely new or fresh...but solid..and at the very least for someone (in that niche market) that hasnt/doesnt buy every new title every new year, why would I go backwards and purchase an older title ? when I'd just get the newest title...I never purchase anything day 1 anyway...so a few weeks/2months down road, at a reduced price I'll end up buying 2k17 (I've played it already, but dont own it) - but I think its worth owning at this point...considering I played last years...and while not a big difference, even IF just slightly improved graphics...thats enough for me to warrant a purchase...considering I wanna get one anyway..why get 16...when 17 isnt "worse" if it was a worse title (like Madden 14 from 13) which actually most agreed was a big drop in quality/run-game, and overall ingame ball mechanics...yea I wouldnt purchase it...but basically the metacritic review for 17 so far has been pretty solid NOT just this review, but universally 6 reviews have already said 9.5/10 or 9/10 (the lowest being a 89/100) so that is basically in a nutshell "universal acclaim" ...just like last year...except improved graphics (regardless of how much/scaled) and better AI/commentary (even tweaks not actual in-game can affect the overall score) and I'm really liking the sound design this year...not a huge thing in these types of games to begin with, but sometimes the little nuances play a role for the "immersion" for me, I'm usually the one that doesn't care, or even respond but I have to say overall this week has released 2 solid titles with NBA 2k17...I never liked NBA Live anyway (my cousin always loved Live) so...you know its opinion...theres going to be people like you...and people like me...people are enjoying it...some are exactly like you like "meh...average, nothign new, nothing special" and thats fine...but sometimes thats not really a 'bad' thing'. Basically this title wasnt a downgrade by any means, if anything/at most...it was a "slight improvement" which (call it dusting the shades if you want) thats enough for me, I'd usually not settle for a yearly sports title from EA.../2k Games...but IDK I'm enjoying it...and will prob ending up purchasing it at some point in near future...and then the other title I was referring to in my run on paragraph is Forza Horizon 3...wasnt a huge surprise that the title did well review wise, but I wasnt expecting the overall positivity...usually its negative with any release (no matter how good it is, or how fresh)_ usually its nothing but complaints in comments section and its also why I tend to avoid comments section...cause whenever I see people saying "eh not that good, I'm ignoring it, nothing new" I end up buying...and enjoying it, basically it flys in the face of what everyone is saying...call it having lower standards, or being easy to please (you could probably find more derogatory phrases to use) but ...thats just how I am....but in the end to each their own. I think its a pretty good game. God forbid if someone thought that...they must be naive or sheep-ish...again I dont buy into every release, or one of "those COD gamers who buy every new title and think its so great" no...I rarely buy sports or FPS titles...infact LOL Prior to 2k16...it was what ? 2k10 for me ? and then before that NBA Jam for N64 lol....so again I rarely buy but maybe 2-3 sports titles in an entire console generation if that, the same could be said for racing titles AND FPS...sports/fps/racing...are the genres I purchase the least/rarely. Usually its MMOs,RPGS/JRPGS (western open world/sandbox ARPGS/action titles/survival) and platformers (both 2D/3D) basically Shovel Knight/Super Meat Boy/Witcher 3/Xenoblade Chronicles X - complete opposite titles of this game...so when I was interested in buying a basketball game thats newer, and looks fairly good and runs fairly solid...an overall good presentation/package...my cousin said this year 2k17 is pretty good and I had alittle experience w/ 2k16 (again most of them I play over cousins house, rarely buy any sports titles myself) but after playing it...and maybe it really IS because I'm an amateur sports/basketball player in the sense I'm "that guy" that doesn't play every years release...so I cant rank 1 from the other...I'd be the last person to ask about specifics and indepth comparisons from the last 7-8 years of NBA 2k....but I have played enough to know some of the differences between 2k10...13...14...16...17 you know just enough taste and I'd say between those mentioned titles 17 is the best all around package...argue it, debate it, say I'm stupid ...who knows but I'm enjoying it...I hope others are as well. and yea that would be cool if NBA Live came out with something totally amazing ...and right now with FIFA doing nothing special, Madden just released another 'average' yearly release...I'd say right now NBA 2k17 is the best "incremental sports title this year" which may not be saying much but...hey atleast its quality...but I guess quality is = subjective...all in the game-holder/bearer.

This is worse than IGN's review - they did NOT play the game for very long. Tons of stuff is broken.... it's basically 2k16 with polish on old stuff + new broken features. You can tell he didn't get far because he focuses a lot on the college time (the INTRO to the game) and then just reads the back of the 2k box.

If you like Career mode type games, 2K is better. If you like modes like Ultimate Team or Franchise, Madden is better.

But u can't really compare this with the titles u mentioned, which r also great titles. They just way to different tho. I've already got over 30 hours into 2k17 and endless more to go

I buy it every two years...I am a hardcore basketball fan, but buying it every year is just not worth it to me. I really wish you could just purchase a roster update for $20 or something, because I would do that.

People wanted it to be removed like the old 2k games so this is hard enough trust me. A lot better than having to watch your animation.

when looking at sports games you have to give them leeway they can't do anything about it being the same due to the fact that they have to stay perfectly true to the real life sports it's not as if they can add jet packs or guns or whatever all they can really do is improve graphics, animations, designs and update the rosters possibly adding more dynamic stories to my player but that's really all

A fucking 7. They have Arkham knight a 7, and I agree with ur point but they don't really ever improve. The faces at least look like the players now but they still looks pretty bad. These games should have top notch graphics because it's simple af but I feel like they still look pretty gross

i saw more issues in last year...i dont know im enjoying 2k17s commentary, graphical settings, and overall pass-plays and AI this year far more...id say this is the better title (and most are agreeing) infact most are surprised that this year EA sorta did...it...right - like metacritic across the board "immediate universal acclaim, not perfect some issues - but nothing glaring" and I would agree...of course you will get those that really see some as issues...that others dont. It really comes down to how hardcore of a fan you are, are you a yearly player of these incremental releases or just a basketball fan who hasn't played every year, and is sorta coming "back" to the table...and thats me, and honestly I've played (since 2k10...maybe 2 of the releases) in last 6-7 years...and this one is really growing on me fast, new TV and new system + this game...I cant complain...but I guess thats me...to each their own.

They added so much to the game. Unlike fifa which they just add features that have been in 2k for years.

MyTeam and Madden Ultimate Team have been here for like 5 years. They didn't copy anything from FIFA. The whole" unlock your dream team with cards" concept has been here since like 2013.
