NBA 2K24 remains the best basketball sim on the market, but its lack of meaningful updates and continued overwhelming presence of microtransactions make it feel like it’s going through the motions and doesn’t have anything to say.
The problem is not that "It is the most robust basketball sim game on the market" it's the freaking ONLY basketball sim on the market. That's why we're stuck with it even when it absolutely stinks...
Blame other game makers for that, though. Others have the opportunity to make a better game. It's not like 2K bought the Exclusive NBA License like EA did with Madden. I agree with you though, there needs to be a variety of sports games from different developers, that way they don't get lazy on us.
I just play offline games like mygm 👍 people should go back to play now online it's more fun and competitive but nope everyone wants to be on my career and or my team pay to win modes.
I remember when 2K gave us one of their best game at the time on day one for $20. Now they have become so greedy. I would understand if they gave us a game that is enjoyable. Where is all the money going year after year. They give as the same bs. Another company need to come up with a NBA game that can compete with them. It’s sad, I have been play 2k since the very first day one on Dreamcast. Where it is now is very disappointing.

The gameplay is great way better than previous years, I stayed away from my career and been enjoying it way more. Honestly just lock on a player in my eras if you want that or else get ready to pay another $90 atleast just to compete

No competition. When you have a monopoly you maximize profit by increasing prices. In a competitive marketplace you maximize profit by making a better product. That's how 2k got good in the first place. They have no incentive to make better, more fun games because they have a captive market. Certainly the people who pay don't help, but that's an offshoot of the core issue
they need to bring that mode where you can pick an nba player and basically do a my career mode with them. I think they stopped at 2k14. I think the mode was called my player.
NBA 2k has been magnifying to the culture over the past years, so I won’t bad mouth them. However you HAVE to develop/ update the storylines, commentary , presentation every year. What’s the point of winning a ring in Franchise mode if I’m not considered a defending champ ? Why doesn’t my banner stay in the rafters ? The STORY LINES / PERSONALITIES make the NBA so it should make 2k
Completely agree, there is a big lack of detail in 2k. Winning a championship with your my player has no effect on the following seasons, commentators dont really talk about it, npcs dont bring it up. In some years there’s a parade in others there’s only a ring ceremony. The story mode the past few years have only gotten cringier, the writing is basically aimed for kids.
Exactly, playing multiple seasons in my career or in my franchise has no continuity whatsover. I remember back in 2K13 and 2K16 there were news column in the game mode menu, where could read about other teams results, who shined through the games etc... which made the immersion much more deeper. Adding to the topic you´re discussing, It´s annonying seeing game winning shot and winning team instantly walking it off to the locker room with stone straight faces. For me, I wouldn´t need any my park, ante-up and cringy stuff, just solid NBA experience - which I lastly felt in 2k16.
I didn't buy the 2k23 but I got this one never again will I buy another 2k basketball game! The microtransactions are a must to play this game online. It is overboard plus inconsistent gameplay is not worth grind my main blame is on the 2k community when they ok no more of it then things change...... not worth a 5 in my opinion a 4 or lower!

If another company did the same game, but without micro transactions, where in a solid 25-50 hrs of gameplay you got a 99 overall, it would sold a lot more than 2k
For a game that demand such a high price point. It definitely doesnt give a complete product. The latency/Lag , bugs, prices for VC. I literally just was playing a Mycareer game and just closed the game out of boredom. Playing online is so inconsistent and laggy i dont even attempt it at this point.

@@tdup191bro if you haven't been paying attention they've put VC in pretty much every playable mode now. MyTeam was hella fun and you didn't even have to grind or spend money like that to compete. They don't even have an auction anymore. Trust me, they'll patch the game and make it to where if you do MyCareer your build is pretty much useless. It happens every year.

Idk if you only played MyCareer but ProPlay added a ton of depth to the animations that you'll notice in other modes. The pre-catch load ups and different push and flip shots within 10 feet make the game feel very different. There are also some new passes directly from ProPlay. Also you need to play with meter off and PlayVision on. Release timing is more consistent (and forgiving) than last year, not less, but they changed it to visual cue for a reason. Just shoot. Dont try to time it. Other guys are running to your spot because you are in the wrong spot. PlayVision will direct you where on the court you should be standing.

Idk if you noticed, but it takes 202,000 virtual currency to get to 86 overall. You get a base 600-800 vc each 12 minute quarters, rookie difficulty game. That's about 253-337 mycareer nba games, which is about 202-270 hours. All of these new features will get redundant by the 20th game. This game should be free to play instead of having to pay 90 bucks for a copy and having to spend more money just to be able to compete with other players. This company is fucking ass.

The players should boycott, meaning the video game players. Nba players won’t boycott because they and their franchise get paid. It’s sad to say but, they actually benefit from gamers spending money and vc in this game. They probably know the game is a trash, but won’t stop their bag either.
I am one of the players that only plays MyNBA and it’s worth it but I do think MyPlayer and MyCareer should be separate. Let the people who want to play online play online but the one that want to just be an NBA player in game experience that. MyCareer shouldn’t give you VC but a contract so shoes aren’t expensive lmao it makes no sense that an NBA player is making a fourth of what shoes cost in game. Just let the player create his own career like NBA2k11 or Madden 06
I was so excited for this game since the 25th anniversary this year. However, it’s disappointing to the point where I’m going to have to take a year off next year for sure.
NBA 2k23 and NBA 2k24 have game tools for free online that allow gamers who play mycareer to change all of their attributes, skills, badges, even contracts.
@369pendulum not really, I can't play 24/7 just to have a chance at being able to compete with other people. The only way I can do that is by opening up my wallet. Then i realized with how much they want me to pay, I was basically burning money because the cycle will start from zero next year with an even more predatory monetization scheme. They are hurting the gameplay to force you to spend money and people are still buying it.

But yes ik there are modes that don't require vc to play, but the main online appeal for the game is the park/rec/ect. pretty much require you to pay to compete if you don't spend all your time playing 2k.
Despite how absolutely terrible the MyCareer and MyTeam is (havent touched em since 2K19) I cant fully dismiss the game. The gameplay and MyNBA (despite some real NBA financial and executive STILL missing) are both equally great. Plus team all of the features that made the franchise mode great over the years are still here and better than ever (unlike madden). If you enjoy the franchise side of things then this game wouldnt be a bad buy at all size you're only making a 1TP for the game itself. If you play enjoy MyCareer or MyTeam, just save yourself the money. There probably wont be a 2K competitor for a long time so youll have to wait a while unless you want hundreds of dollars sucked out of your wallet.
Every year around basketball season I to want to play an NBA game, but then I remember that 2k is the only option and so Im left in the dust because I refuse to buy into that bs. 2k hasnt been good since around 2k14 before they started doing VC, and always online, and all that other crap. I remember getting 2k20 or one of them for free through PS+ but I couldnt even really play the game outside of Quick Match because despite it only being 2 years old, the servers were already cut and because you couldnt get VC, even if you were just playing MyCareer because you couldnt spend real world money on VC you couldnt upgrade your character past 60 even when you were already playing in the league. Meanwhile before all this BS you could naturally progress your character by actually making them perform well and doing training sessions. I get that the NBA license is expensive and they need to find some way to cover those causes but they have SEVERLY crippled this IP, and honestly it baffles me that there are still people who buy this every year, minus streamers because of course those whales are. Then again, the only people that buy this kind of game are the kind of people who only tend to play this game and only this game. And if thats the case, you get what you pay for. Dont buy it and then start complaining about all the issues because you knew what you were getting yourself into.
Nah the game is a lot smoother and feels better than 2k23 sluggish ass gameplay it just feels overall better it reminds me a bit of a modern 2k13 which I like I don’t really care about that online nerdy sht yall complaining about it’s a solid better game than the last 5 2ks that dropped definitely worth the buy while it’s on sale trust
The best way to buy an nba 2k is just wait until the new one comes out or when its on sale and you just buy the previous one and update the roster So right now the nb2k24 mamba edition on ps5 is just around 25$ < it may drop even more by the time 2k25 comes out
Folks do all this complaining about having to buy VC. Just grind and stop whining. I haven’t spent a dime on VC since 2k19. Why? Because I don’t care to play online. Play a couple mycareer games a day and earn those attribute upgrades. Stop trying to skip to being great 🤷🏾♂️
All I want to know is, can you play local multiplayer with friends in the same room in custom matches with custom teams that you can name and choose the logo/colors etc of and are entirely composed of custom players that you choose names/appearance of and design custom arenas like NHL18? I haven't played one of the NBA games since 2K14 and am hoping that 2K24 is something like that but with a level of improvement reflective of the 10-year difference between them.
The pay to win pricks that unbalance the game is why I'm not buying another 2k. I've always played myteam and it's ridiculous how much time you have to put into the game just trying to keep up, and I'm not buying those packs either. If it was a guaranteed good player for a few dollars I might. I'm not wasting money gambling on pulling a good card.

Yes and no. From about 17 to 20 I think that was true but not the last two years. Although the game should honestly be on a 4-5 year development cycle. MyEras is genuinely lipstick on a pig. It's a casserole mode. And tweaking the builder every year, badges, and obviously the menus are all just new paint. But I think they are becoming more like Madden where they are actually removing features now and dumbing it down. Especially in MyNBA. That said, the changes to MyTeam are substantive and redefining. The changes to gameplay and animations are noticeable. Parts of it are the same game, other parts aren't. It just depends what you want to focus on.
@@369pendulum It is much better from last year to be clear. They cleaned up some stuff for sure. The salary cap works, there are more custom jumpshots instead of just default, and they fixed some (*some*) player models. But my point was it's built on the same bad framework as MyNBA no matter how you dress it up. The main UI is from 2006; player progression and development is completely unengaging; simulated stats are broken/illogical; the coach/front office system is under baked; the GM progression system is not good; all of the player interaction stuff has been stripped from the game; and scouting could be SO much better. Though at least scouting isn't actively bad like Madden's new system MyNBA/Eras is a collection of cool ideas; not a well designed video game. MyEras in particular -- if you lived it or know NBA history you can't go 5 minutes without something immersion breaking. (Also, I know it's not completely on them, but there are just way too many players missing.) It's basically for people who know the star players and their brain does a happy when they put MJ and Kobe on the same team.
I want a game I can play. It is terrible online . I make like 7% of my shots and those are under the basket. I don’t want to think about stick or bar release besides there is a lag on controller to system it seems. Even with meter off I can make shots. WTF? It’s a hassle to enjoy. Most shots should go in but they never do. Then I get hooked up with someone online that kicks the garbage out of me because my shots don’t go in. This is absolutely terrible. I don’t want to learn controller patterns for moves shots and plays, I want to play and shoot. Great concept and graphics. Terrible game playability online especially. I should make baskets like I do in the practice training mode . I refuse to spend a penny online because it’s no fun to begin with.
Crazy your still called MP, not only are you drafted to the league at 60 overall, they have you starting. Bulls first game against OKC, im gaurding SGA first game as a 60! 4 games to go from 60-61 overall. Game is so half assed just to get $$ outta people for essentially a reskin of previous 2ks
2k is all about buying vc to improved our build...the cd alone is very expensive then you have to upgrade your build faster with another expensive vc...the one that enjoying this game is the professional gamers, like other 2k's this is all about micro transactions...in fairness the gameplay is great

My first my player game i got 23 assists. That's with a 60 overall. All i did was pick and pop with whoever it doesnt matter as long as they're open they made it 🤷 Gotta do better
What really annoys me is, how much better dressed every other bot or sim characters are, compared to the "my career" character you build, its all just money, money and more real money, for not a lot. I would settle for a 2k team tracksuit other than the Brown Tee/ Grey track suit bottom look they give you. Thumbs down 👎

Maaaan i havent played my career since 2k16. Ever since than ive been ricking in mygm thats where its really at. I build the character i want and progress that player however fast or slow i want without spending another $100. Sometimes i wish i could play online with my friends but the experience is far superior in mygm so thats where ill remain until career doesnt ask for my first borns soul and a fraction of my life to be slightly efficient online.

Idk what is wrong with the graphics on this game, I play it on “next gen” console and the graphics look like it could have been a 2010 release. The players are constantly just a blurry mess. The only thing not blurry is usually the court. Idk if that has to do with my console or what the deal is, but seeing as it’s supposed to be a next gen gaming title it’s automatically a 1 star for that.

Yeah sorry... the beginning of the video sums this game up... as an actual simulation this game fails... there's no way Bogan bogdonovic stays in front of Andrew Wiggins and bumps him off his spot enough to mis a layup driving to the basket.. Would never happen in real life.. this happens constantly in this year's game no matter who you're playing against...and how good or bad they are...
I don’t think we will see much change until the next gen consoles or later in this gen maybe 2k26 or 2k27. I will continue playing 2k22. Too bad that there’s no classic 2K mode. Meaning not having to rely on VC for us solo players.
The only think I don't like is the shot stick. I have never missed so many shots in this game. It's frustrating to the point I don't want to play, and I love 2k.
Can´t we just crowdfund another basketball game instead of throwing our money in the dragon´s throat called 2k sports? I don´t need an update every year which they are selling to us as "new" game. Plus it's the same copy over the game and make some adjustments game to most likely poss you off. Also, why must your created player still be called MP? Say my REAL created name already, this right here shows how much they don't give a F**k about customers. Stop buying this crap.
