The Pacers took a quick 9-2 lead due to Rik Smits hitting his first four shots. Kobe Bryant attempted to play with his sore ankle but only managed to score 6 points in the first half. Even though Bryant and O'Neal were in foul trouble in the first half (each picking up his third with 5 minutes remaining in the second quarter), Indiana could not take advantage and did not extend their lead. This would be a problem as Kobe Bryant scored 10 points and the Lakers took a 62-60 lead due to a Glen Rice three-pointer. The game remained close going into the fourth quarter, when O'Neal and Reggie Miller scored 14 and 13 points respectively, sending the game into overtime. Midway through overtime, O'Neal committed his sixth foul but 21-year-old Bryant delivered three clutch shots, as the Lakers were able to overcome back-up center John Salley's inability to effectively defend Smits. Smits and Miller scored all 14 of Indiana's OT points, but it was not enough to overcome as Miller missed a last-second three-pointer, and L.A. was able to pull one out in Indianapolis. Shaquille O'Neal was the first final NBA MVP player to foul out in the NBA Finals until Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors fouled out in Game 6 of the 2016 NBA Finals.

Smith having the best angle to observe the shot was ready to celebrate..tells u how likely it could go in what a heartbroken moment for the pacers

Pacers were solid team back in late 90's and early 00's. One of the powerhouses besides the Pistons.

Talk about the level of confidence he’s so smart he played pace Reggie before they even met in the summer because he knew the pacers were going to the finals dude is a tactical genius he knew pacers that year had a lot of potential and played Reggie in a one on one to feel him out

Sorry, still I just can't accept the unbelievably dragic death of Kobe and his daughter. I honestly cried more after that then when my 77 year old dad passed away last year. Kobe and Gianna especially had so much value in the life and had so much more to do. The loss of them both still makes no sence.

How does Travis Best not get the ball to Reggie for the last shot. He tried to play hero and threw up an airball. SMH. This was one of the best NBA Finals games of All-Time and I'm a Pacers fan.
@elevatorelliot714
@elevatorelliot714 Год назад
I wasn’t alive for this, but I went and watched these finals, and to me it seemed like Best had a bad habit of over dribbling, and also was more of someone who looked for his own shot rather then Mark Jackson who was a distributor. I agree gotta get the ball in Reggie’s hands at the end of the game, he was rolling this game.
@redpillfreedom6692
@redpillfreedom6692 Год назад
@@elevatorelliot714 For a point guard, especially a back-up, Best had a tendency to shoot too much. Case in point the game against Milwaukee earlier in these same playoffs when he shot 3 for 15.

Travis Best really played with his heart right here... i am a big big fan of Reggie but i think he simply couldn't lead a team on his own all the time, his game was a basketball of flashes and sparks.

Yll keep talking bout kobe, shaq had 36/21. Plus horry and Shaw hit the go ahead baskets. Yeah kobe hit some shots and got the offensive rebound at the end. However the lakers where up when they gave shaq the phantom foul and never trailed when he left. Yll funny 🤣

I guess that's why Kobe led the Lakers to 3 straight finals and won 2 straight championships without Shaq and with no other top 75 all-time player as a teammate. Because he was "faster and better with Shaq"

@elevatorelliot714
@elevatorelliot714 Год назад
That’s misleading because he got injured 9 minutes into game 2 so if you look at his averages in the full games he played it was actually 19.0 PPG. He was playing hurt the whole finals, and yes you’re right, it wasn’t good stats for Kobe and he also got crushed defensively, but he came up big when it counted, and that helped them win the series.
