@@cheldosarmiento2733 he was literally retiring .... what do you expect his former mvp self ? He gave them good defense and minutes when he was on the court.
Man, I was 12 going on 13 watching this series. Huge Nets fan. I was devastated. If we had a center who could have scored instead of Collins, I think we cooks have won. But, the Spurs were incredibly talented. Good series!
It was two dominant big men.the nets didn't have a legitimate frontline.at least they almost forced a GM 7.and I ma tell you what the nets would had a shot to win in a GM 7.
@@thale2422 Absolutely, their problem was they had nobody who could create their own offense reliably. Their offense just stalled in any half court set.
Nets put up a good fight in that series and dikembe was a X factor playing good defense despite his age. I think if he played more they would’ve contained Duncan but Jackson, claxton and manu went off and there was no way stopping him when Duncan got doubled.
Back in the day when fans complained about players could only dunk, couldn't shoot, no fundamentals, and the game was slow. Now we complain about players can only shoot and do fancy stuff with the ball, and remember these mid 2000s finals like they were actually entertaining to watch.
@@arturbondarenco2155 NJ was a small market, now that they are in Brooklynn, they are tied for the biggest market. Just because they are considered the same market as the Knicks. When they do rankings the Knicks and Nets are always in the “same” market, but yeah back in the early 2000’s they were bottom 5
@@jakebutler8481 now that the finals is over, actually last years finals between the heat and lakers was the least watched finals of all time 😂 it was probably due to the politics that was involved. Games 1-2-3 are the least watched final games since 1974. They are the least watched 3 games. The bucks suns had more viewers
Sir just a question in what year again when the NBA turned soft favor of HIGH RANK TEAMS in fan base. Is it actually 2010 the last time physical is valid ?
Wouldn't have made a difference. Nets lost both the 02 & 03 finals because they had no true big man to compete with the monsters LA & SA had. Their backcourt was more than good enough, they needed big men.
Vince was great but not sure he tips the scales. He settled too much and the Spurs in 03 had 3 really good if not elite defenders at the guard/wing (Stephen Jackson, Ginobili, Bruce Bowen). Remember, this was the Spurs team that dethroned Shaq and Kobe effectively ending that dynasty.
@@hmhm856 Makes sense, as the previous year they got swept but this one went to six. So yeah the Spurs were a bit less of a challenge but they still weren’t enough.
The nets had a good run playing in the finals back to back it was just unfortunate that they had to go through the lakers shaq n kobe and spurs Duncan n Parker
Stephen Jackson must have had the easiest night shooting those 3s. Those were the good old days for the Spurs. I think my favorite one is Duncans last finals game.
@@mhhmmhhm3301 I watched the stream. I still remember how many times K. martin got blocked by two towers. And K. martin was the best PF in east coast during that day. I just miss old NBA.
So the block at :40 if you watch at .25 speed, it looks to me like David Robinson changes the direction of the shot first and then Tim Duncan gets a piece. It's not obvious enough for me to be certain but I think Robinson actually should have been credited with that block. So even if Tim had 2 blocks that weren't credited I'm at peace with him not officially having a quadruple-double. It's not even his best game of the series anyway: G1- 32 pts, 20 reb, 6 ast, 7 blk, 3 stl, 1 to, 11-17 FG G6- 21 pts, 20 reb, 10 ast, 8 blk, 0 stl, 4 to, 9-19 FG
If this nets team stayed together a bit longer, and possibly got Vince Carter to come on the team with Kenyan Martin there, they would've dominated the east a lot longer and might have won a championship.
Love how nba tv cut out the pregame with Former ABA greats Julius Dr. J Erving and the Iceman George Gervin as they came in with a Red, White and Blue Basketball. The brown ball league still hates the late great ABA....
to be honest guys, talking about ordinary players, nowadays average players' basics are obviously better/improved. Stars will be stars in whatever era, but average players are improving no doubt about it.
Greatest conspiracy in basketball history. Tim Duncan is the only player in history to ever get a quadruple double in the playoffs. It’s a crime that they go back and correct records, but hasn’t corrected the greatest accomplishment by any player in history. I understand now why they omitted this. With 5 rings in 6 title appearances, 15 all star selections in 19 years, 15 all defensive selection, 15 all NBA selection, 3 Finals MVPs, back to back season MVPs, 3 championships in 5 years, a championship in three different decades, championships throughout his entire career, was the best power forward to ever play the game, was the best defender ever in basketball, still has the block and rebounds record in college, and the only player in history to score a quadruple double on the biggest stage ever. That kills Lebron’s argument about being the closest in the GOAT conversation to MJ, Duncan is second, definitely puts him ahead of Kobe especially since he put an end to the Lakers dynasty before finishing off these Nets
Stop it Duncan is not ahead of Kobe lol kobe's beaten Duncan more times and remember that ass whooping in 2001 ? I agree with you though I think Duncan is better than lbj and I put Duncan 7-8 all time Mj Kobe Kareem wilt magic bird Duncan lbj Shaq hakeem .
@@diegochavez6203 you are sadly mistaken if you think Kobe beat Duncan more times. Every championship except 2014 Duncan had to go through LA. Kobe’s last two didn’t involve the Spurs, his 2000 victory was because Duncan was injured and they never played that year so that’s only two Kobe got directly on Duncan so that’s 4 to 2 for Duncan. Duncan has a ring in three different decades while being the best player on his team the entire time. Kobe had to become the best player on his team without any expectation when he first came into the league. Duncan had the monkey of being the number one draft pick to deal with and proved that he deserved being first his entire career, but there are plenty of years in Kobe’s career where all he was doing was stat packing, but Duncan and the Spurs were relevant every single year of Duncan’s career and no one else outside of Bill Russell can say that, especially Kobe. But just for kicks how many times have Kobe only led Lakers went to the Finals, never. When did the Duncan only led Spurs went to the Finals, six times. The first two were with David Robinson as his Robin and Tony Parker as the second highest scorer on the team at 15 points a game, and the last three he won with dudes that the entire team besides Duncan had two all NBA selections and five all star appearances for their entire career, but Kobe got his rings with Shaq, Horry, Fischer, Fox, Rice, Gasol, and Bynum, some of the best talent in basketball at their time and even an aging TD who points were about the same his entire career has dueled with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green’s Warriors, Lebron and D Wade’s Heat, OKC with Durant, Westbrook, Harden, and Ibaka. The only thing that Kobe can hold a trophy up about is points, but then what does that matter if Duncan can still beat the brakes off of you while being the best scorer on his team and average ten less points a game than you
😂😂😂 nope, 6 games had more to do with the Spurs and less to do with the Nets. This was a Spurs team who defeated the 3x NBA champ, Shaq and Kobe Lakers
I'm an MJ fan and all, but my boy MJ better be glad he didn't run into the Spurs dynasty during his run. He handed the baton to them, but he's not going 6-0 with the Spurs around. He'd get his, but so would they. Shaq/Kobe, then LBJ had to deal with this team, and had to share.
You are a bum watching. First, the teams of the East were weaker when compared to the west. Second, if you can get to the playoffs then you're not a bum. It's a shame bums like you love to disrespect players because of their roles, despite how effective their roles are. Grow up you pubescent noob.
Translation, you're a noob to basketball and only want to see athleticism and dunks and cross overs instead of actual game play, plans and fundamentals. I bet you were lazy overseas too.
Matthew 15:32 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
oh god the ugly era of basketball literally no spacing cuz lack of shooters shot selection was horrible you drive with 5 guys in the paint and throw up something hope it goes in If those teams played in 2022 I wonder would they even make playoff? defense wasnt good either compared to today, so many wide open 3s and some stupid players would actually pass up an open 3 and shoot a long 2 just a inch inside the arc(would get you kicked out of NBA if you did that today)
