They dont sell basketball games this days like they used to .. got goosebumps and started to get sweaty hands just hearing the intro .. man it was awesome
Indeed. I was really afraid, this was Jordan's last game, and every single word of that intro felt like a dagger plunging into my heart. Of course I was very happy in the end.
the best theme song was NBA on NBC. it was the best time in the NBA. I have cheered while this song played and I've cried. this song is bitter sweet. I love it!
All 4 Bulls victories were at the United Center. All 3 Pacers victories were at Market Square Arena. Home court advantage certainly played a role in this.
@@joewashu Correct, but unlike the playoffs, it wasn't home court based. Bulls and Pacers split the two meetings at both the United Center and Market Square Arena.
...one game...man, folks who didn't watch the NBA in its golden era won't know what they missed...looking back, I can only be amazed at how even I get chills just revisiting this period...the intro to this critical game is nothing short of pure gold....
It's 4am. I'm at work. We are in the mist of a global pandemic. I watch this and am brought to tears. Things will never be as good as it was here. The theme gives me chills. As a pacer fan and Reggie Miller is/was my favorite player of all time we had to get beat by the bulls so often. Anyone Else feel this way? Just sad things will never be the same.
if your NOT the guy who goes by jazz man you PROBABLY still know who i'm talking about and he and a female i saw on 6-14-98 PROBABLY still really really LOVE the jazz and please tell me did do and/or will you have any favorite members of jazz
When hearing that intro in 1998 every young kid across the untied states and Canada and who ever got to watch those intros wanted to play in the NBA in the future … Never give up your dream
It was a cool team. I love Larry Bird. But if Reggie Miller gets called for an offensive foul like he technically should have in like Game 4 or whenever, this would have been a 5 or at most 6 game series. Miller hits an exciting 3 to win that game to ties the series 2-2, but he had to shove Jordan with 2 arms extended to get open - You can't even do that in FOOTBALL nowadays without offensive pass INT - let alone basketball (which is not the contact sport football is). In the NFL, if a receiver or tight end takes one hand (not even 2) and shoves the defender away with a fully extended arm, that's Pass INT on the offense. But hey, that made the series more exciting and dramatic.
Bulls fan. I give total respect to your Pacers squad. They pushed the Bulls to the limit. I think they were even tougher than the Utah Jazz in the next round. ❤️🖤
people seem to forget this series but Indian had Chicago on the ropes they even had a 13 point lead in this game it took everything from Chicago to win this series
Considering the fact that the legendary Larry Bird was the head coach for the Indiana Pacers for only three years (1997-2000), and the Pacers made it to the Conference Finals all three of those years upon making it to the Finals for the first time in franchise history in 2000, that's got to be one of the best head coaching records in all of sports history, period!
NBC wants to get the NBA package again which is one of the best news that I’ve heard in a long time. I’m all forward with the reuniting with each other because NBC can broadcast more NBA games than ESPN/ABC has done throughout their tenure. Once the NBA on NBC is back on air again us 90s kids will watch every single one of them games every Sunday including the playoffs.
So much child hood nostalgia . Best time to watch basketball , after the epic intro it was awesome how they always showed the arena , and cut to a segment with the commentators on the court . You could always see how loud and crazy the crowd was .
I'm not sure about that one. They split the season series with each other but the Jazz had the more convincing win. Plus Jazz had the Finals experience on their belt and were favorite to win the championship that year. I'd have to give the edge to the Jazz on this one.
NBC going to bid for NBA TV Rights in 2024. The TV deal expires next year for ESPN/TNT. NBC wants to bring back NBA on NBC just 20 years after they lost the TV rights to broadcast. NBA on NBC coming back!!!!! Modern NBA games on NBC with this theme and intros.
Tv negotiations should start after the finals and nba returns to nbc is priceless for us 90s basketball fans. NBC is going to broadcast more game ABC has ever done throughout their tenure. They can not only broadcast the regular season but the playoffs including the conference finals and finals. Tv ratings will go up drastically. Don’t be shocked that the NBA signs with Amazon too because the NFL is there. The league will possibly likely to be having 4 networks in their next tv deal. NBC - Sunday Amazon - Monday ESPN - Wednesday & Friday TNT - Thursday ABC - Saturday
@@jgamos85 I hope so. I found out updates on Twitter. They trying to outbid for last spot vs TNT. I didnt want TNT to go because of Ernie, Shaq, Kenny and Charles on Inside the NBA but I rather bring those guys to NBC and build NBA on NBC back with the intro and the music etc.Like 90s
Bulls were clearly the better team. Even in the Pacers wins the Bulls were leading for most of the game until a late game surge by the Pacers at the end.
That jump ball with 6 minutes left was the difference in the game. Cause at the time the Pacers had all the momentum. After the Bulls won the jump ball and Kerr hit a 3 the Bulls put them away. Who knows what would have happened if Smits had tipped the ball out to a Pacer.
I think this was the best intro I've ever seen to a basketball game. If anyone wants to prove me wrong please feel free to share a link bc I sure love watching these things lol
This is why 1999 was so special for me as a Knicks fan. the Pacers had taken the bulls to the brink in 98 then the next year Jordan retires so Pacers figure we got this easy Out of nowhere comes the Knicks there bitter rival to knock them off go to the finals awesome
The Pacers pushed the Bulls to the brink in this series. They were up by double digits in the first half. It was nerve-wracking for me a Bulls fan. The Bulls’ role players were pivotal down the stretch.
Note to the person who posted this: We were trying to get on with our lives. We were trying to forget about this game and this series. But you just had to remind us. You are a terrible person with no soul or conscience. Regards, Pacers fans everywhere
Daniel Dougan Y'all had like 3 more chances after this: 2000, 2004, and 2005. The Lakers were the better team, the Pistons were tough, then y'all got fucked hard after Malice at the Palace.
taurusve Yes, but if we had won this game, we would have faced the 1998 Utah Jazz in the NBA Finals. Not sure how good they were. Stockton and Malone were on the down slope of their careers by that point. Yes, Utah had swept the Lakers in the conference finals, but those Lakers were not yet the dominant force that they became in the years to follow. So that MIGHT have been our best chance to win it all. Nobody thought that the 1999-00 Pacers had a chance against the 1999-00 Lakers in the NBA Finals, and they were right. I'm impressed that the Pacers took them to six games honestly, because the Lakers were an unstoppable force at that time. The 2003-04 and 2004-05 Pistons were VERY good, and the Pacers did not even get to Game 7 in either of those series.
Daniel Dougan Had you guys went to the Finals in 1998 instead of the Bulls, you guys would have lost to the Jazz in 6 games. The Bulls were the only East team that could put up a fight with John Stockton and Karl Malone.
If only Jordan and the Bulls had gone up against Drexler and the Rockets in a Finals instead of the Jazz twice in a row. That would've been THE matchup of the 90s. But the Pacers deserved to win a title with the lineup they had at this time. Same with the Blazers.
The Rockets were the favorite to go to the Finals in 97 with the acquisition of Barkley but the Jazz exposed them defensively with the pick and roll. Even if the Rockets had gotten passed the Jazz it's not likely they would of beaten the Bulls.
Had the Pacers won that series, Reggie would be an NBA Champion. But that isn't how it worked out. Still, forcing a Game 7 and nearly taking down the Bulls is quite an accomplishment in itself.
