The suspensions really screwed them over. 97 Knicks were capable to take the Bulls to 7 games and if luck was on their side, who knows they might have won.
I think this was the series with the suspensions of starks and L.J. Bad decision from the league as it affected the series. Knicks were the better team and would have matched the bulls way better.
Agree on the flopping and refs actually calling by the rules but team ball? Are you kidding me? Because of illegal defence and very slow pace the 90s were the pantheon of iso ball. Didn't you see how many 1 on 1 post ups there were in this game? You call that team ball?
last year of Ewing being an All Star calibur center...neva the same after this year and esp after that wrist injury in Milwaukee, he was neva the same. He was moving so fluid in 97. That ECF in 97 shoulda been Knicks-Bulls. The whole year I was anticipating that series. Knicks totally wasted a golden opportunity cuz they couldn't keep their composure in Gm 5.
i dont know what it is specifically about this game. i remember watching it live and the feeling of hoping the knicks would come back in the 4th. Even now watching this replay...i already know the result...but it still feels exciting to watch and a sense of hoping the knicks are being able to come back on Ewing's 37 points
Patrick Ewing Came to Play but the Rest of the Knicks Left Their Games Back in the Tri-State Area🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿 Tim Hardaway Came to Play along with the Rest of the Heat👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
@@nikkomarcocabuhat3155 Ask Dallas players and fans if Mourning was just a spectator. His defense kept them in Game 6, because they were down big when he first came in.
I remember this match, like many others. Tim Hardaway was wound up like clockwork and played great. Mourning always got too fired up and picked up stupid fouls quickly. I liked how Oakley in many games explained the guys under the basket, how hard he played. It's nice to see such a hard game in the paint. Last night I watched Nuggets vs Brooklyn. I don't remember whether at the end of the second or the beginning of the third quarter the indolence of both teams was embarrassing. During several actions on both sides, not a single basket was scored. This part of the match should go to Shaqtin' a fool.
To everyone complaining about the suspensions: Yes, they crippled the Knicks in the latter games in the series. No, the league didn't screw them. You can't leave your bench when a fight happens on the court, plain and simple.
@@Mark_KnightThe rule was implemented prior to the 1994/95 season; it had already been around for a few years. The reason they were spread out over two games is because suspending all 5 players at once would have left the Knicks with only 7 available players for Game 6. League rules require a minimum of 8 available players.
It wasn't just the suspensions, it was the staggering. This wasn't as simple as Knicks suspended for 1 game. It was spread out over 2, which is highly unusual
@@jaychild78 Me too. I was HIGHLY disappointed the Knicks lost this series. I knew that the Bulls owned Miami. As a Bulls fan, I was so looking forward to the Knicks in the ECF and it didn’t happen.
That player suspends was b.s. they all should have been out one game instead they allowed it to play out for different players in different games leading to Miami winning and wasted a ECF round that lasted five games that 97 Knicks team would have went the whole damn 7 and a possible playoff round revenge from the 96 second round vs bullshits!!
@@Theterminato2013 naw, you get real bulls fan chump, not a Knicks fan to begin with, basically stating the input on an what if,we all know Knicks choked to the bulls almost every year in the early 90's and once more in 96 but, that Knick team was pretty stacked that year and for certain would have went the seven games if that b.s. didn't happen in the round with Miami but as the saying goes we'll never know now, 💩💩 face!!
@@Theterminato2013 naw you get real chump!! First off I never was a Knicks fan,I was just stating that it was a what if,but because of that b.s. fight and weird ass suspensions it's now a never could have been! Sure bulls had their number through out the 90's but that 96-97 Knicks team could have did some damage and like I said possibly beaten that bulls team they were stacked too so like the saying goes we'll never know as well as that's your opinion and this is mine, gtfoh with the other b.s. 💩 face!!
The suspensions hurt this Knicks team, no John Starks and Larry Johnson for the Knicks was big. The Knicks just didn't have the talent to overcome those two not being there.
It wasn't just the suspensions, it was the staggering. This wasn't as simple as Knicks suspended for 1 game. It was spread out over 2, which is highly unusual
Following of the melee's outcome in g5, the league decided suspension/s incurred during the Playoffs is to be implemented to next year's regular season instead. What a shame. Both teams should have a full lineup in g7. David Stern et al seemed helped the Bulls to reach the Finals with less challenge and resistance, even though the Bulls will imminently win anyway. Or they have enough of another Bulls-Knicks faceoff league office spoiled it -- which reminded of a local sportswriter who headlined "The NBA is run by dorks" (too bad, I no longer have the article).
They couldn't due to the rules. Suspending all five players at once would have left the Knicks with only seven available players; league rules require a minimum of eight.
In that time ejected because fight, now for a bad face and a word to the referee, just like Jokic in the last game with the Bulls. Everyone was surprised that he was ejected for two technicals in one second.
@@scottb3034 I'm just saying 9 times outta 10 I'm sure people were bald before pac but it's crazy to think of it as a fashion choice for the time idk I'm young
@@G-TV_TheOneManArmy a lot of the NBA did it to follow jordan at the time, especially the younger players who idolized him. other times it was a team bonding thing for the playoffs (1998 pacers did it for example) but tupac did die before the start of this season so maybe he had some influence. think it was more years later.
What made the suspensions so complicated: it wasn't as simple as Knicks players suspended for 1 game. It was spread out over 2, which is highly unusual. Instead of 1 game suspension for game 6', it was staggered to game 7
Because the NBA rules require teams to have a minimum of 8 players available. Suspending all 5 for Game 6 would have left the Knicks with only 7 players available, so they had to be spread out.
@@jaredwright8085 yeah the 69 win team that owned both of these teams needed help. Especially since that team was essentially perfect at home in the playoffs from 96-98. Lol
Just saying, if no one has said or you have already seen...but this game has been & is on NBA TV's 'Hardwood Classics' list. Probably one of the first games when the 'Hardwood Classics' series started back in the early 2000's. Maybe even with the 'NBA TV' channel itself. 🤔
They won because Zo wasn't present and LJ was washed up, so Knicks lost nothing. However, Knicks won 3/5 titles afterwards with the Knicks seeing 1 finals appearance in a lost.
