The way people like Nick Wright, SAS, Skip Bayless and Kendrick Perkins have covered Jokic is simply irresponsible and rooted in bad faith; and an absolute disservice to basketball. I'm glad JJ is fighting for Jokic to get the recognition that he deserves. This peak by Jokic is as high as almost anybody who has ever played this game. Now, he needs to win more trophies, because consistency is key in all-time discussions, but what we've seen from him is just extraordinary.

tbh i fault all of sports media from failing to attempt to create a compelling narrative around this Nuggets roster. As far as Wright/Bayless they are paid to play devils advocate and these programs should have personalities arguing the merits of their preferred athletes. Bayless is well aware of how his bad takes generate substantial buzz for his broadcast.

Thanks JJ. I'm from his home town, Sombor, and I kind of understand what he's about. People here are quiet, unassuming, they go about their business. It's not like that throughout the rest of Serbia, but a lot of people in it's northern province, Vojvodina are like that, especially in Sombor. Couple that with his genetics, a lot of people here are tall and big, Serbs are taller on average than most nationalities, and his IQ, and there you have it. One thing he had to work on is his work ethic, a lot of people here, meaning Vojvodina and Sombor in particular, are kinda lazy. Everything moves slowly around here.

I think I’ve seen Jokic 3 dozen times the last 2 or 3 years and there wasn’t a single game where he didn’t do something jaw dropping (usually a pass) that probably nobody else in the league can do, and he does this stuff every night. Bill Russell said 4 out of 5 rebounds is grabbed below the basket and quickness was much more important than leaping ability. Jokic exemplifies this better than anybody since Big Bill himself.

Ive watched every NBA game of his since his was a rookie and seen him make great passes and also seen him make game winning block on Zion dunk, but they say he can't defend and if I hear Embiid fans one more time talk about embiid a better defender cuz in Game 7 Tatum was hunting for Embiid. I think Malone just realised he couldn't win a championship with Bones playing meaningful minutes due to the fact that Bones is one of the worst defenders in the NBA at this point in his career. But given that Bones said his issue was with the lack of communication with the coaching staff, that leaves two options: - Either Malone didn't explicitly explain what his issue was with Bones and instead was just passive aggressive with him, which I highly doubt given how he had no problem calling his team out after game 2 of the finals. - Alternatively, Bones was too dumb or simply nonchalant about meeting the defensive standards Malone wanted the team to meet. Maybe in his mind he was just as good as Murray, since he could shoot and playmake at a comparable level, but Malone clearly didn't feel that way, and in hindsight, he clearly made the right call and the front office was right to back him up

Regarding the last piece on Joker's shooting stats in the last final game - he just wasn't impressed with the occasion. That is Jokic for you. If you want to do something for the first time in history, where nerves play more than anything else, you either need the guy with a lot of experience similar to these particular situations or someone who just want to win the game while it happens and will think about consequences after the job is done. In Joker's case it is rather simple, his basketball is all about making the right plays every single time. He is conditioned by that and his software operates with that binary, you either make it right or not. So, why not do it in the NBA finals as well? His basketball IQ is not going to be pushed back by nerves, it is fundamental thing to a point of being vegetative. BTW, I am not surprised JJ is so much into Jokic because he was a finesse player himself and can recognise art when confronted with it. It's a funny thing that in case of both Serbian Jokers, Jokic and Djokovic, it is the active or former players who appreciate their games more than anybody else, let alone most of the sport journalists who didn't play ball. It is the players who understand better than anybody else how difficult it is to reach such level of excellence so that your game may look fundamental and simple but still untouchable.

Only Chicago and Boston has won more. You say they change roster every time, but they still maintain their core. That’s pretty impressive to win in different roster constructions that compliment your big 3

“Athleticism” isn’t just explosiveness. Jokic is athletic - he’s stronger and has better endurance than most, but because his jump is next to nothing and his top speed isn’t that high he’s supposedly not “athletic”. Watch how often he beats his opponent (often a supposedly more athletic player) down the floor. It’s one thing to be able to register a top speed or lift a big number in testing, it’s another to do it from the jump through 4 quarters and into OT consistently. It might not be explosive, but it’s still a valuable type of athleticism.

In my opinion Collins catches the biggest point about the joker, his game is replicable... Think how many young boys were ruined because they want to copy MJ with the tongue out and trying to find the move only after jumping... Or how many are failing and ruining the game, last few years, trying to shoot from half court just because Steph did... Jokic is different, there are plenty of smart guys, they can study and improve their comprehension of the game, and the psychology of the team, that's it... We have the guy who's proving that can win championships

@@ciaojay7025 i don't think Jokic is the smartest man on earth, neither the smartest in the NBA probably... He just gave to basketball IQ more importance than dunks or deep threes... @bluegregory6239

True what you said about youngbloods only trying to jack 3s like Steph. RU-vid is partially to blame for this--highlights above fundamentals. Also, Steph is a 6'3 grown man who you better believe grew up with fundamentals and just happens to be the best pure shooter of all time. But these kids only watch the shots falling, they don't see the off-ball movement and team IQ and his ball-handling skills that create those shot opportunities.

Such a great point. I loved Jordan as a kid, but now detest him, his arrogance and meaness, and the impact hes had on the sport and the world. Jokic is the truth, and its obvious to many young players. I just saw an interview with Wemby from last year where he said Jokic was the guy he followed the most and who he wanted to pattern his game off of. (Paraphrasing the second half of that sentence)

The best comparison for Jokic is one that was also made in the video is with Tim Duncan. Both are/were the cornerstone of a franchise for a significant period of time, at the centre/pf position. Both are quiet, media shy people. Both are obviously highly intelligent, shown by their humour when they are interviewed and play on court, and both are elite players with games that aren't exciting, but are incredibly effective and produce winning basketball. Having a guy who is only focused on winning as your franchise leader sets the tone for the entire team, look at the Spurs and Nuggets whilst Tim and Nikola have been the leaders. No drama, no problems, no stories for the media, a GM's ideal superstar. Jokic is one of my favourite players to watch, he never seems to make bad decisions on the court, his focus on the game and ability to read the ebb and flow is extraordinary. He may not look athletic in that he's not fast or can jump out of the gym, but there is a lot more to athleticism than just that. Hand-eye co-ordination, core physical strength, manual dexterity all of these are also athletic traits too. Sometimes I think the NBA overprioritises speed and jumping, overlooking other athletic traits which are often equally important. And as Luka and Nikola and before them Larry Bird have demonstrated, if your basketball IQ is in the stratosphere, you don't need to be fast or jump high to dominate.

I dont think we have ever seen a superstar be as flexibly dominant post season as Jokic was this season. Jokic does nothing the best but competes with Jordan, when the team needs a score, shaq, when team needs a stop/steal/block, and magic when team needs to get involved.

It's like they're talking about Bird and Magic. To the people who say we haven't seen anyone like Jokic needs to understand why the 80's was so great. Bird did everything Jokic does, so did Magic, it's called winning. If Embiid played like Jokic he'd have actually deserved the MVP this year. Detroit couldn't beat a healthy Bird, because he was Jokic before Jokic. If you can make your teammates better you have great chance of winning. The warriors played smart basketball like Lakers and Cs from 80's. Best player makes teammates better they win

Jokic is not only an NBA Champion... he's one of those big men that if you play him in a 1 on 1...he can slam on you. He can hit from the perimeter, a hook shot, and he can hit you with that fade away 3 point shot. The only player I see coming close to Jokic is former MVP and NBA World Champion Dirk Nowitzki. Now, the Nuggets can do like the Mavs did. They built a championship team around Dirk that kept them a contender for at least 20 years.
