The Buffalo Braves were an American professional basketball franchise based in Buffalo, New York. The Braves competed in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league's Eastern Conference Atlantic Division from 1970 until 1978. In 1978, Braves owner John Y. Brown Jr. swapped franchises with then-Boston Celtics owner Irv Levin, who then moved the team to San Diego, where it was renamed the San Diego Clippers. The franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1984, and is now known as the Los Angeles Clippers.

I liked Buffalo’s track meet style of play. Especially noted during the 74-75 season when they went 49-33.

Bob McAdoo was the guy who was snubbed big time when the NBA was naming the league's 50 best players. He wasn't on the list and he deserved to be on the list more than some of the guys who were honored. The Euroleague had a far better appreciation for him than the NBA.

Mcadoo should've been there before Shaq and Bill Walton. Hell Bob Mcadoo won 3 scoring titles, rookie of the year, and he was the mvp in 1975. Are you kidding me!

The Buffalo Braves didn't fail because of poor attendance but because they were given poor home dates at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium--the Buffalo Sabres (NHL) were given first choice of game days at the arena and then the Canisius College team second choice-leaving whatever dates were left to the Braves. The Braves tried to negotiate with the Canisius management and they absolutely refused--the Buffalo NY market simply couldn't build a separate arena for the Braves hence the team was sold and moved to San Diego and ultimately then moved to LA as the Clippers

Interesting. I went to a few Braves games, and I always wondered why they moved. Why did they trade Mcadoo to the Knicks?

No.. they were done in by the owner. If you read about them you will see that the owner wanted to move them, so he switched ownership when the owner from the Celtics. They never had a chance with that owner

would love to see a team in Buffalo--but would the same problems exist? having to share an arena with the Sabres--also the population base in Erie County may not be able to support two professional teams

Funny how Ernie D made no mention of Randy Smith. Ernie was a very entertaining point guard, but players like Randy were physically surpassing Ernie's importance beyond passing by that time in the league. Ernie couldn't cover the bigger, faster guards that were becoming commonplace. I don't think Ernie would have had a long career despite the injury.

I remember the 74 75 buffalo Braves. Mcadoo and the braves strong team. But they were overshadowed by their hockey team Sabres. Couldn't compete with them. So they moved to so cal.
