I am?watching the for a sentimental reason. I am moving from my house tonight. I moved in on this date in 1977. This was the 1st news I saw in yhe house 43 years. I will walk out of this house when this video ends. Never to return to this house. I remember this broadcast. So weird. Good by house, I will always love you

I watched NBC News with Jessica Savitch in 1977 when I was 9 years old and on my grandma's Large TV in her living room. TV was exciting for me then.

I was 6 when this broadcast hit the airwaves. To this day, when I think of the late 70's national newscasts, I remember thinking why is Israel and the middle east seemingly on every newscast? Of course, I didn't understand due to being too young. With the passage of time, and some old fashion Bible study, it's clear why this will continue to the end. I can't wait until the day when the Jewish people say "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord". What a great day that will be!!

Now in 2023, GM's new midsize are the the Chevy Trax and Buick Envista. Not bad looking cars, until you find they're made in South Korea, and are powered by 1.2 liter, 3 cylinder, Chinese engines. Those GM engineers are rolling in their graves.

That Sunbeam Centurion fire and smoke detector commercial at 57:53 was very dramatic with the way the music builds up at the beginning and the outdoor shots of the house used in this commercial is the Eight Is Enough house although the front door of the house looks slightly altered everything else looks the same. This commercial could pass for a TV show the way it was done. I also think it was what could have inspired the Eight Is Enough episode just over a year later on November 29th, 1978 titled You Won't Have Nicholas To Kick Around Anymore. An episode of the show that definitely scared me as a child when I first saw it. One of the serious episodes of the series for sure. That episode also featured a smoke detector but it was the GE Home Sentry. Back then smoke detectors on TV shows were rare if mentioned at all. I think EIE was the first to feature them. If I am wrong let me know.

some NBC stations in the Eastern and Central time zones didn't carry the special edition of NBC Nightly News from November 20, 1977 (NFL on NBC (11-20-1977) 4pm games: Houston at Seattle and Oakland at San Diego)

wmbrown6 most likely since WNBC (an O&O) has to run what the network tells them to.
@MJBYouTubeNetwork

I think all NBC O&Os carried this, including two NBC Stations here in New York. WNBC, and WNYT, NBC Channel 13 in Albany, New York. The others, NBC Los Angeles (don't know if they did, if they didn't, Los Angeles Football must have been on), MAQ Chicago, KYC Cleveland must have too. But doubt any West Coast affiliates carried this, especially in Seattle and Oakland

@@rtcp2020 John Chancellor apparently did not think announcers were saying his name clearly enough. I think it was about the late-70's when he said it must be pronounced Chance-lore. Check out any early 80's newscast and you will hear the difference. Here's an example from a 1982 promo. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ScFRNC0bkRw.html

I wonder, would anyone know if, over on CBS, Walter Cronkite on that night had anchored a "special edition" of the CBS Evening News out of Jerusalem (likely outdoors), with (most likely) Bob Schieffer holding the fort at "the CBS Newsroom in New York" with "the other stories"? (I doubt Roger Mudd would've, especially on a Sunday.)
@mariepavlov9144
@mariepavlov9144 6 лет назад
wmbrown6, there was no CBS Evening News on November 20, 1977, CBS had an NFL doubleheader that day but there was a CBS News Special Report on Sadat's visit to Israel at halftime of both Game 1 (Atlanta at New Orleans; Minnesota at Chicago; Philadelphia at St. Louis; Tampa Bay at Detroit) and Game 2 (Dallas at Pittsburgh; Los Angeles at San Francisco) with Bob Schieffer (New York) and Walter Cronkite (Jerusalem)
@wmbrown6
@wmbrown6 6 лет назад
Ah, thanks for that - ahem - news. But I was basically correct on the hunch that Cronkite was in Jerusalem and Schieffer in New York, for CBS' two Special Reports, from what you've said.
@mariepavlov9144
@mariepavlov9144 6 лет назад
wmbrown6, CBS had the CBS Sunday Night News which aired on various CBS stations late night Sunday Nights, and November 20, 1977 was one of the nights that the CBS Sunday Night News (usually during this period anchored by Morton Dean).

Any chance that the report from 17 October 1970 could be shown? The first gay homecoming queen was in that parade as the first Gay Liberation Front in Iowa (also the first gay liberation group recognised by a university) had formed about 18 days earlier and NBC was the only TV network that got footage. The rest of that homecoming parade at the University of Iowa was more fun that you think could come out of Iowa and a perfect 1960s snapshot.
