A bit older than yourself, and believe this was the animated NBC peacock logo opening especially tailored for its yearly airing of "The Wizard of OZ" (opens in B&W). That event was quite an anticipated treat for us kids in the 60's!
Hands down the best station identification ever! The concept, the graphics, the music and the instrumentation never cease to thrill me. Harp glissandros, flute flutters and whatever else with the voiceover send a tingle down my spine. Love it! Thank you for this amazing compilation.
Agree with the previous comment...the full “Laramie” Peacock open still gives me chills 50 years later, but hearing the variants is amazing (Joe Williams? Wow)...
Could've been but it was for _Get Smart_ The Oz showing also could've been _The following program will only start and end in lively black and white on NBC_
You know the errie music use to creep me out when i was a kid not so much now ,yet the PBS tones still gets me i still jump out of my skin when i see it here .
It’s kinda a combo of the low flute (slowed down music for a slower logo), a diminished chord in there, and then the curiosity provoking major 7th chord at the end. 🤔🤔🤔
I'm a '66 kid, so the later, softer Peacock was my favorite. One's that sent me running for the behind-the-sofa was the Paramount end vanity card with the orchestral stinger. Brrrr! And the Viacom V of Doom!
Watching WandaVision reminded me of this -- I got the tune from the 60s ones (about 2:15 on) in my head and had to look it up to explain it to someone who wasn't old enough to remember these. :-)
By far, the best intro is the one that starts at 1:50: Joe Williams singing while the Count Basie Orchestra provides musical accompaniment. Count Basie was the best, Joe Williams vocals gave Basie that extra spark in the mid-50's.
Oh, man, that jazz theme 0:55!! I wager there weren't too many people with color sets back in the 50s. When was the peacock first introduced, do you know?? 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 And Jack Benny, PRICELESS!!
we had the first color tv on the block, and I was recently reminded that many of my friends would come over just to see this (I thought it was because they liked me!) lol
Voiceovers of interest: Ben Grauer, Fred Collins, Mel Brandt, Vic Roby. When the "Kaleidoscopic Peacock" was used between 1962-75, it would be used before the start of a local special, in, say, Washington . Vic Roby would say, "Now a special program brought to you in living color, on WRC-TV".

Peacock should have been facing to the right. We ain't never saw it in color because we ain't never had no color TV. 2:13 What magnificent, creative music! Noticed it years before I became a classical organist.
All of the Peacocks are special in their own way, but special mention must be given to the Krofft Brother's hilarious live action bird given the hook. ("Wait a minute. You're not the NBC Peacock!") 🦚🦚🦚🦚"BWAAAK!"🦚🦚🦚🦚
This Following Program Is Brought To You In Living Color On NBC. The Opening, Non-Presentation, Video And Audio Portions Are Previously Pre-Recorded. (1960).
The Live Broadcast May Have Been Colour, But That Looks Like A Kinescope. I Always Felt Bad For People Outside Of The Eastern Time Zone That Had To View Things By Kinescope.
What makes this a little more hilarious is that in some variations, there's a little bit of a hilarious self-awareness, notably the "lively black & white" and "all the lawyers in LA are busy fighting NBC" variations.
Here’s my version of the logo at 1:51 Kuzco: (singing) 🎶 Count Basie swinging, let’s all make a day. The name’s Emperor Kuzco and I’m here to state, that the following show starring Tak and me, comes to you in living color on M C C!🎶

When tv shows started to be broadcast in color I bugged the shit out of my parents to buy us a color tv. My family wasn't poor, but my parents held firm and stuck with our Zenith black and white tv. In 1965, my family moved to Abilene, Texas where we lived on base at Dyess AFB. We were staying in the NCO family housing until we could be approved for a housing unit. We moved to Dyess a few days before Christmas of 65, and in the common room of the NCO temporary housing, there was a color tv that me and my sister would watch our favorite shows on. On New Years Day of 66, my mom and dad went with us to the common room lounge to watch the Rose Parade. My mom loved seeing it in color and a few days later my dad loaded the family in our pink (yes, it was Pepto Bismol pink) 62 Rambler station wagon and headed off to the local Montgomery Ward Store. He then shocked the hell out of me by heading to the electronics department where he proceeded to buy a 21" color tv. I didn't know it at the time, but I found out later that Magnavox licensed their TVs for sale by Montgomery Ward. I just recently purchased a 65" Samsung QN90A tv, and I paid about $1700 for it. I've had it for less than a month and I must say it's the best tv I've ever owned. Great for watching sports on. I'm looking forward to the Bengals playing the Titans this weekend. They are a great young team, but I believe they're still a few players and a year or two away from competing for and winning a Super Bowl. Enjoy this weekend's games, folks.

On TV Land when they show Bonanza reruns they've shown the Iconic Peacock and music. Omg. Just grabs your attention. I actually push it back to hear it again.
