Fred Astaire, Forward Look '59 with NBC Peacock on Custom TV commissioned by and built for NBC Studios New York, finished 9/16. I thought it would be fun to roll NBC's original Peacock before the set left the shop. This set was also shown on set during the 2019 Democratic Presidential Debates.

"An Evening with Fred Astaire" is NBC's one-hour live television special show, right?

My mother was a Boomer and said once Rock and Roll started in the 50's, the days of dancers like Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, with big musical numbers were done.

American Bandstand started in Philadelphia in 1952 and in 1957 went National on ABC with Dick Clark.

Today's kids don't even know who Fred Astaire was.......sadly. My father passed down to me his love for classic movies. I don't think some parents or grandparents have the time or desire to pass down

The Peacock Logo is sweet! So is Fred Astaire and the dancers. I'll take that Chrysler convertible too!

LCD displays have infinitely better color than plasma or CRT's. It's apparently impossible to produce a wide light frequency emitting red phosphor, unlike green or red. Instead, you get a series of orange peaks with super high peak in the far red. LCD's have the best of both worlds. An additive RGB primary achieved with filters or subtractive methods, which is where the red becomes just as good as the green and blue.

Not sure how people drove those cars- so long!! My dad had a 1969 Buick that I loathed and my sister and I called it the tuna boat.

Where’d you find a non-letterboxed version of this video? Also is that a black matrix picture tube?

I upscaled the aspect ratio with the media player I was using. Very similar, it's a post 2000s era CRT.

Nice touch. I have an old 1950s Motorola TV as a designing touch in my home.

Very cool! Technicolor and these old sets are a real pleasure to watch! I wish everything today was shot in Technicolor!

"Custom TV commissioned by and built for NBC Studios New York" - so, is this not really a restored Magnavox, but a prop piece with a flat screen installed?
@HiFiasco

My no, this was a CRT based conversion. LCD conversions often come out looking tawdry unless the set is really suited to it or a correct mask and lens are installed. I won't employ LCDs unless a job absolutely calls for one.

@@HiFiasco Thanks. What sort of CRT chassis was used for conversion?
@HiFiasco
@HiFiasco 5 лет назад
@@oldtvnut On this set I don't recall the specifics as to whether the CRT was a reman or NOS as this was a couple years back, but the chassis was one of a small handful of unassembled replacement chassis I still had stocked back from my old TV repair shop days. As those dry up I'm replacing them with a limited production run of custom chassis designed for a plug and play input configuration. Much easier to customize.
