That's not true. Moss redshirted in 1995 as a Florida St student because he had signed with Notre Dame. He played with Marshall in 1996 when they were still 1-AA, and was a redshirt sophomore in 1997 when Marshall entered FBS. Even if he'd been forced to sit another year for transferring, Moss would have been eligible in 1997. Also, Marshall went 10-3 their first year in FBS (1-A) and lost to both power 5 schools they played, including their bowl game. The only "asswhoopings" Marshall handed out were to other MAC schools. Not a lot to be salty about.

They are both new FBS teams coming from the FCS conferences. The NCAA imposed a two year ban on new FBS teams playing in conference championship AND bowl games (including potentially being a part of the CFP rankings & playoffs).

Yeah contracts can’t be enforced if it turns out the contract itself was illegal. I can’t sign a deal that says you’re allowed to kill me, because even though I signed, it’s illegal to do that. If they can find a way to say the rules are illegal, then the “rules” go poof

The difference is that everyone knew TCU sucked and had no business being in the top 10 but the NCAA let them in the CFP anyway because thousands of morons wanted them to make it in despite not being a good team. Same with cincy the previous year. #4 is just a popularity vote now. That's not even relevant to JMU being denied bowls so why bring it up.

They wouldn't be playing an elite P4 team. They'd most likely play another top tier G5 team like Liberty.

There are 41 bowl games, 82 FBS teams get one. JMU is 10-0, ranked 18th in the country, and is the highest ranked team from a G5 conference. Do you really think that there are 81 other teams that they couldn't compete with?

App State started that first Sunbelt year going 1-5 after and finished with a 7-5 record. They didn't have a New Years Day bowl on the line. If they were undefeated late into the season like JMU, who knows if the University would have requested a similar waiver at the time. And honestly JMU isn't requesting this waiver if they have 2 or more loses this late.
