Same.... I was in 9th grade though.... I was hoping to see The Longhorns go again for the 2023-2024 championship game against Michigan... Alas it did not happen. Congrats to Washington for making it though...
Big 12 was the conference back then. Don’t have the NC’s to show it, but the amount of times the conference played for one and even Kansas had a huge season during this era.
Man this game still hurts years later I’m a huge USC fan because of Reggie and Matt Leinart. 9 year old me is still crying inside. Vince young was a menace😭
Got to see my Horns finally win a championship and then i graduated high school 5 months later. 2006 was a very spexial year! (This game was played in January 2006 btw lol)
Been ALOT of great college games over the decades so wouldnt go so far as to say this was THE best ever but its certainly top10. SO many what ifs for SC, what if they gave the ball to Lendale White on that 4th down play...he was a BULL and I think he could have gotten it. What if they blitzed Young on the final TD run.............probably lots of others but cant recall since havent seen it recently. Kudos to TX though, I thought SC was the better team and getting to play basically a home game I really felt they would win.
I think people say it was the best ever because it was a 4 month roadmap leading up to the game. It was the game everyone wanted to see, it had so much talent on both sides and it was a damn good game!
@@bradbennett4237 Yeah it was def a great one. Still not ready to call it the best ever. Hell, you could argue it wasnt even the best game ever played in that stadium. Others that may be better: 1984 Orange Bowl, 1994 Orange(these first 2 were Nebraska losses by a combined 3 points), 1997 Rose. Hell even the game played exactly a year before this one, the 2005 Rose, was quite a game. The 1993 regular season game between FSU @ ND. These are just a few off the top of my head. It's extremely subjective so there is no wrong answer.
It was. You had USC with 2 Heisman trophy winners, going for 3 titles in a row and a 34 game win streak against Texas who won 24 out of 25 games, defending Rose Bowl champs, with a 19 game winning streak and Vince Young the best player in college football (also Reggie Bush at USC). They were both number 1 and 2 the whole season. Each had a very tough road win and blew out everyone else on the schedule. They ran the table as number 1 and 2. USC blew out Oklahoma winning the second title and Vince Young winning the Rose bowl over Michigan yelling will be back started the hype for that next season. I would say it started when Matt skipped the draft for USC. What a game to live up to the hype. I feel USC wins 6 out of 10. This was a weird, fun, and explosive game.
Crazy if you watched a replay in 2006 of a game 19 years earlier in 1987, the footage would look very dated. Today in 2024 this doesn’t look very dated to me.
I was living in California, my wife at the time was weeks away from having my daughter and we went to watch the game at the bar if a local restaurant. Needless to say, I was the only Texas fan surrounded by USC fans, and when Vince scored, you’d have been able to hear a pin drop in that place were it not for me standing in the middle of them all clapping. 😂
So was I. A coworker of mine had been talking smack all season. That Tuesday he came to work visibly...humbled. He was a gracious loser. I told him Notre Dame let USC off the hook so USC shouldn't have been there anyway.
Not only was this the most hyped up game in college football history, it actually lived up to the hype and then some. That’s why this is the greatest national championship game of all time, as well as arguably the greatest game of all time
I think what kept USC from total devastation is that they won the year before. But MAN this lost must've hurt. Vince Young turned into Superman that night.
Especially since they couldn't make it on 4th and 1 and gave up a TD run on 4th and 5 at the end. USC was THIS close to a threepeat and it probably still hurts them to this day.
USC’s defense was weak that year. And their offense made some really stupid mistakes in this game. Texas also got a couple of calls to go their way. I still think USC was the better team.
No offense Sir...Let's just say (epic) and get it over with. "epic" is a long book, poems or movie, whose story extends Over a long period of time, or tells of a Great Event.🥸 including all what you have said🙂
2:15:26 has the best TV promo of all time ... Emily's Reasons Why Not as only Keith Jackson can bring it to you, and Jake In Progress featuring John Stah-mos
Interesting fact: While putting together the Football Life episode for this game, NFL Films initially wanted to interview Will Ferrell before they opted to interview Snoop Dogg (along with Matthew McConaughey).
Me & my mom/dad watch it in the 4th-QTR. Including myself in the 1st-03 QTRS. We knew we've wanted Texas to hoisted that National Title for that program!🤘🏼🏈🐂
That's exactly two weeks before the Biggest Movie of the Year Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical with Zac Effron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Monique Coleman, Corbin Bleu, Kaycee Stroh.
3:13:32 This moment was the last great moment in college football. Why? With all the talk about athletes getting paid and the transfer portal being wide-open, this was the moment where two great teams that were built up played against each other. Just on the outside of social media, and still, before the days when hot take shows being everywhere. The hype was real no matter what, but that moment would make it to where politics and greed didn't matter. Truly, we may never see something like this again in all of college sports.
I was 4 years old when I saw the Longhorns won the national championship and still remember my watching with my family and definitely remembered my grandpa jumping up and down and screaming and put me on his shoulders while celebrating
Not only the best football game ever but the talent, the power of this game was legendary especially if we all went back to 2006 to see how people were different, football was still tough in 06. Miss these days 🫠 98-2010 was the best football era ever
I'm surprised Texas won this game without a running game intact, so it was completely all on Vince Young: to pull Texas through what determination from an individual. the quarterback (Vince Young) the leading rusher with 467yds 267 passing yds with 3 touchdowns I'm still captivated watching this game over and over again. I have only one word "Absurd"
The question was is Reggie Bush the greatest running back of all time now that covers a large scope the answer to that is NO Jim Brown is in my opinion. Bush in USC history yes let's be precise when you say all time
LSU won the natty the year USC claims to have won it. What a joke. Saban’s LSU team would’ve smoked USC. USC only won 1 natty outright. They “shared” with LSU, then beat Oklahoma, then lost to Texas. They only won 1 national championship.
