Close battle, Cold Steel has learned from going up against Million Dollar Funk Squad, that you got to show more than show boating. They did a good job mixing both styles in. This is A&T video crew , gotta see NSU crew video of this battle before giving my vote. Great job by both drumlines.
Cold Steel sure knows how to put on a show for the crowd and I luv it but MDF$ is so clean I really enjoyed there show as well so both lines this time around did a great job👏🏾👏🏾
BRO!!!! THE TWO most prolific HBCU Drumlines! The D.C.I. Drum Corps are clean, but they don't bring the grooves PLUS technical execution that these two units do! They both have two different perspective styles of precision! One line does not outweigh the other EVER & they both execute with optimum musicality. As a former percussion instructor for Morris Brown College, I AM proud to be associated with the total development of HBCU's and especially The MEAC! Thumbs up to North Carolina Central, Bethune Cookman, Hampton U., South Carolina St., Virginia St. & Wilberforce U. Drumlines as well!
These two lines have ruined me because anyone else just doesn't bring it like they do. The best on all of HBCU period. I'd have to go with CS for the win. They showed their technical ability while being able to entertain the crowd and not go overboard as they tend to sometimes do. Take nothing away from Million cause their precision is A1.
I’m going MD. I think Steel can play, and they do what they do BEST which is entertain. But I wanna hear some NEW stuff. I know y’all got stuff cookin. Drop it !
MDFS knows how to just play but COLD STEEL are professional entertainers that are clean with tight precisions. MDFS were no match to COLD STEEL. However, good job to both drumlines.
Being a SCSU BONGO BROTHER, I say MDFS pulled it off, they don’t have to flip the bass drums or get up on stands to show they can play. I have been watching them battle each year and MDFS wins all the time. If Coldsteel tones down the show just a little then they would win.
Cold grease has a lot of energy but they keep playing these same lame cadences it’s boring now and as far as MDFS they just needed a little energy but other than that I’ll give it to MDFS because they played newer material they just don’t need to be so serious and entertain the crowd more 🤷🏽♀️
Good show for every percussionist out there but are they performing for the crowd or trying to out chop each other. My instructor said many yrs ago have to work a crowds 6 senses. At the end of the day that’s what counts. Ppl will cheer and clap but do they really get it or just being nice by giving standing ovation.
Cold steel done stole their style from mdfs and pvamu .. mdfs just keep advancing the style of true percussionists that most if any lines can't keep up with ... they too advanced for cs period !!
Imma keep it a buck. Steel has their own style. The only “mimic” people compare them to BOX/MSD is the “field show” insert. That’s all. Wouldn’t say stole from MD either. Their styles are definitely different.
@@AKINGSKYD nah steel has definitely incorporated pv style into their blocks and they weren't playing on tonals back in the 80's-90's til Harvey got their in the mid 2000's .. if you've followed them you know they were square back in the day with them leg tenors 🤣 .. then harvey came in and got them boys doing sticking he learned under a cat who played for the bergen cadets in jersey .. but steel always wanted to be like md so they merge MD style with pv acrobats showmanship and now you got this new squad that ppl are seeing lately with heely's 🤔 .. but they can still claim 3rd after bethune though ....
@@str84wd Naw bruh. Steel was on tonals in 98 and before. That’s a fact. And I ain’t even Steel but I gotta call it like it is. Now have they been playing more beats in the 2000s, yes. But their core is still there. They’ve always been a sticking line, and doing formations during blocks. Maybe not as beefy as now but hell, the whole NC has that sticking groove. If you were to listen to each section cadences, a difference can be heard. Out of all three Steel has grooves where the sextuplets plays the rhythms, but the bds keeps the down beats, the snares aren’t even playing etc. MSD or MD has cadences or grooves like that. MSD is snare heavy with chops and heavy visuals while the BD keep the pockets etc. MD shoots for a rudimentalfunk approach across the board. Heavy tonal, with syncopational beats coming from everywhere. Waaay more than steel which in itself creates a different sound.
I am MDFS all day but I did not like this performance...where was the energy and showmanship? We know yall can chop but sometimes the crowd wants more...like the performance in 2018
Once again the coldssteel boys take a Major L by Mdfs. Cold steel looks REALLY REALLY OUTDATED! Haven’t shown any growth. They are even worse than they were in 2015! Mdfs has improved DRASTICALLY! For this to be a debate it’s insane. Now go ahead with your coldsteel biased opinions. If you knew anything about drums you would easily see that the coldsteel basses tenors cymbals and chest tenors are NO WHERE NEAR AS SKILLED AS MDs. And their snare have no accent inner beats difference!
