NCL should ban these parents. There is nothing worse than the tranquility of cruising being disrupted and when it is it should be dealt with swiftly. Out of control cruisers a NCL cruise ship.

I'm a Sapphire NCL cruiser, and they are about to lose me because they refuse to enforce their own rules. I was on the Encore two weeks ago I had a bad experience with a child as I was enjoying a soak in the hot tub, a child got in with me and proceeded to tell me they were peeing. I jumped out and found an officer, I explained it to him. I was told they would take care of it. The kid stayed in the hot tub, I never enjoyed the tub again.

Sadly, it seems there are a lot of parents, although hopefully not the majority, who don’t bring their children up to have consideration for other people. It seems to be a thing now that people of all ages seem to think they can do as they please and other people don’t matter. Yet, you try to say anything to the parents or the kids and they will cry out holy hell. Those teenagers behaved worse than young toddlers, they were never taught to be aware of others, they were never taught about manners, they were never taught that they are not the only people there. I can just imagine what they would be like if they were disturbed while playing a video game. These kids have never been told no by the parents and the parents have obviously got no idea how to bring up children (not that those teenagers would like being called children, but maybe that’s how they should be treated)

Something you learn very early on when becoming an actor is the most dangerous thing in our profession is the stage itself. so many things can and will go wrong that if not treated with the upmost respect for the space it WILL end in disaster. there should be no room for warnings when safty is compremised.

Totally agree with you on this topic. On my first cruise (to Alaska), I did the train excursion in Skagway. After I had picked a car to ride in, a large family group (grandparents with their adult children and a bunch of grandchildren) came on and I figured my experience was about to be ruined. Much to my surprise, one of the mom's laid the groundwork for the kids and made it crystal clear that the kids were expected to behave and there would be consequences (such as no pool privileges) if they didn't. I could also tell that she meant it and, more importantly, the kids knew that she meant it. The kids got excited a few times along the way, like kids are going to do, when we saw some interesting views, but were VERY well behaved. A bunch of us made a point to say something to that mom thanking her for doing such a great job with the kids. We can't reasonably expect kids to be silent in situations like these, especially on excursions or at the pool, but there's a big difference between the kids enjoying the experience vs being totally out of control and undisciplined. And I agree with the other posters that the cruise lines should do things like close the doors when shows begin and take some action when needed. The people in the scenarios you described shouldn't have been allowed to a) enter after the show started and b) ignore the show staff.

The cruise lines need to step up and realize that their policy of not correcting and or punishing cruisers that break the rules so they do not tick them off is going to back fire as more folks get frustrated and just stop cruising.

Or stop cruising with NCL, Carnival, RC and start going the Virgin, Viking, Windstar, Regent you know, "Adults Only" ships. I love kids, have some of my own, but dangit people really act like the ship is a self contained play-pen for their kids. 😒

Agreed. On my last RCCL cruise, couple of maybe 6 year olds in the front row of the aquatheater kept getting up and running up and down the aisle over and over. Super distracting and got in the way of performers at one point. I don't think the parents ever turned around to see where they were going, which was wild, considering how young they were. If your kid is that bored in the theater, you should take them back to the room or somewhere else, not leave everybody else to deal with them.

How can 2 adults have that many kids when an adult is required in every cabin? That’s not possible that they had that many kids with them. That would be 7 people in a room . What’s really shitty is the kids sail free !!!!!!

We splurged for a haven room on the Viva. Came back from an excursion in the sun on a hot day. Made haste to the cold room we had spent up to access, only to find some little devils had propped the door open and were carrying away the ice in cups to dump in the outdoor pool. The room was warm, though the refrigeration was working fine. That was the only opportunity we had to use that room on the whole trip.

This is an issue at every theater. I went to Broadway and there was a group of at least 11 kids with 3 adults. The whole show the kids were singing along and kicking seats and talking amongst themselves. It was so annoying. Broadway tickets are waaaay too expensive hear 10 year Olds sing instead of the performers you paid to hear. How can parents adults NOT prepare their kids for the type of behavior that is expected in these sotuations.

I was on the NCL Getaway cruise in the spring. While I was at the pool. A young girl with her mother, who was carrying a large brown shopping bag, were using the pool shower to was their clothes and then hang them all over the deck chairs. When I informed the girl that there was a laundry on the ship, she said this is the way family does things. I went to look for a cruise employee, but could not find one. Not my class of people.

Hubby and I were on Wonder of the Seas. He needed to us a scooter for back issues that later required 2 back surgeries. In any event, with all the available elevators, it was a nightmare to try to catch one that was open to a scooter. Dining hours were even worse!!! Although we had to let availability go for lack of space, when an elevator stopped, passengers neglected that you were possibly waiting for a very long time. To make matters worse, we found bunches of kids hitting every floor number on the elevator so that the elevator would stop at every floor. Or we found them outside the elevator hitting the up or down button then running away. It was horrendous so much so that we swore off large cruise ships especially those that favor families. Children at certain ages should be made to be accompanied by an responsible adult!

Not halfway through this, I'm flabbergasted. I've never cruised, so here's a pertinent question: Do these shows not have ushers? People who show the audience members to their seats, and enforce the rules, like being quiet, stay in your seat except for immediate need for the bathroom, no picture/video-taking (if that's one of the rules), and so on? I used to work on various crews in musical theatre, including ushering (the others were backstage crews - props and costumes). We would escort the audience members to the row where they could find their seats, and they were expected to sit there. We informed them they could not record any part of the performance. They could not bring food or beverages into the auditorium. And if they were late, we would not allow them to go to their seats until an appropriate lull in the performance (ie. a scene change, when the stage crew took a brief break - 40 seconds to a minute - to reset a scene to a new in-story location). Most people arrived on time (the closest most people cut it was during hockey playoffs; curtain time was 8 pm and a flurry of people arrived 2-3 minutes before that, and I heard people whispering, "What was the score when _you_ left home?"). Oh, and the penalty for breaking any of these rules? The offender would be reminded of the rule, and if they argued or kept on, they were kicked out. No refund.

During Spectra's Cabaret in two70 on Ovation of the Seas, a guy came in, walked down to the stage floor on the left side, then walked in front of the performers (almost getting hit, thankfully the performer seen him and got out of step), over to the middle right, then went up a row or two and sat down. It really sucks when you have front row seats and have to witness that level of stupidity.

I think cruise lines should have public shaming of bad parents on cruise ships. Maybe on the lido deck or something and they have to wear signs while on the ship.
@davidhurwitz2291
@davidhurwitz2291 13 дней назад
People should take photos or videos of the offensive behavior and post them on the cruise ship app or show the photos/videos to Guest Services. Then the cruise line would be aware of these people and take action.

This isn't the 1600's where you can 'shame' someone into changing behavior. How 'bout like Tony says: "BAN" ☝. Let them try their shenanigans on a different cruise line-> get banned there too. Sooner or later the people will get the point, or not. At least we cruisers won't have to deal with them anymore.

I was on NCL Sky in May. During one of the performances, they made an announcement before the show that no kids should be in the front row and to stay out of the isles once the show starts. Guess who was in the front row? That's right, two young children. A boy who must have been around 1 or 2 and a girl who was 2 or 3. The mom was with them. The dad was there for a minute and then got up and left. The mom sat down on the floor in front of the stage and held her son up so he could dance and she let the little girl run up and down the isles. This kid even tried to climb on the stage a couple times. Staff did nothing. When the performers came down into the audience, I thought for sure the girl was going to get kicked in the head. While I don't want a child to get hurt, I was kind of looking forward to seeing what the mom would do if her precious crotch goblin got hurt by a performer. Anyways, they were really distracting and I wish NCL would ban people who break the rules like this. By-the-way, I like kids and don't mind them being on cruises but parents need to control them and make sure they follow the rules.

This is one of many reasons why I love Virgin and Viking. Previously, the only way to have a chance of avoiding other people's children was to book an ultra luxury line (Silversea, Crystal, Regent Seven Seas, etc). Now, if I'm cruising in the summer or during any holiday periods, it's going to be on an adults only line.

I agree 100% with you Tony - All cruise lines need to enforce the rules - if they don't the chaos/disrespect will get worse. I'd like to see more security on cruises also - visible security. Too many mishaps continue to happen. I also agree that either you can not enter the theater after the show starts or they should save a row for late arrivals.

You are a better man than me! I would NEVER EVER go on a cruise with kids! EVER, nope, just nope! When our girls were growing up we went to a family resort with a full time activity director. It was Great Lake time. Kids came back at lunch, then at 4:00. We always rented a boat and beautiful cabin. Everyone had kids and came every year. It’s so important NOT to ruin other people’s vacation. When you all have kids they make friends and have a ball!
