Hi! It looks like the last comment showing was a year ago. I just wanted you to know this video is still helpful. I tried the border the way it’s written in the pattern. I wasn’t happy with how it came out. I’m excited to try this method. I actually love the border on the flap but had decided I wasn’t going to do the border anymore because I didn’t like the way mine turned out but now I’ll give this a try.
I just attached the border to the flap and mine doesn't line up perfectly either. Will use your method if I ever make another one. Thanks for the tutorial.
I am using a denim for the flap and have put Peltex on the back, do I put Peltex on the lining also and on the border piece. Would it be to thick to cut for my turn lock?
Just one layer of Peltex. If you have it on the exterior fabric, then don't put it on the lining, and don't put it in the border. One layer is plenty sturdy, and any more than that would probably be a nightmare to cut through (and probably too bulky to look nice in the finished wallet).
This did not really work for me, as the flap pieces were too small. The pattern piece for the flap is the same as the pattern piece for the peltex, not the border piece. So that leaves no seam allowance. Did you cut the flap pieces using the border pattern?
I am going to try this again, cutting the flap pieces bigger. I also think it would be better to topstitch the border piece before adding the lining piece and turning. That way the stitches wouldn't show in the lining, would that work?
I cut all pieces according to the pattern. The border piece is only a smidge wider than the flap piece. At 6:15 you can see the border piece laid on the flap, and they're almost the same width. The Peltex piece is narrower than both.
Yes, that could work. I personally prefer the stitches to show, but you could do it before adding the lining. Just keep in mind that if you're adding a magnetic snap, you'll want to insert it hidden under the border (like in the video). In that case, you can't topstitch the inner edge of the border until afterwards, and so that stitching will show in the lining.
Yes I just thought of this same idea without watching your video. I was bothered on how when you sandwich all the fabric You see the three layers 🙈 my idea ::::: instead of adding the white fabric just use the peltex , cut and glue the inner of the main frame fabric up regular but instead of doing the same to the top just turn it around facing the main and line it up with the main fabric and Sandwhich the frame and main and lining all together then turn it inside out. Hope this makes sense. Its late am im sleepy 😴💤💤💤
I don't use glue anywhere. I've tried what your suggesting, with fusible Peltex (fusible side facing to the back, where the seam allowance wraps around), but when I clip the corners and then fuse to the Peltex, I always get a tiny amount of fraying in the very corners. For me, an actual seam is much more precise and smooth.
