The 'ND3' Miata MX5 is a tucked and tweaked version of America's favorite roadster, and the cheapest sports care on sale today. At just around $34,000, the MX5 is worth every penny, and there is nothing you can't learn about, or enjoy about driving that you can't do in a MX5. In this video Matt and Zack review the new changes to the ND generation roadster, tell you which options to tick and which to avoid, and conclude that everyone, no matter how expensive your tastes, should have one of these in their life.
Mazda provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

@@rayestefania3725 I owned a 718 Spyder once upon a time. Sold it because I was tired of needing to break every speed limit to top out 2nd gear. My C7 Z06 was significantly faster and also had a similar issue. I don’t miss them. Being able to absolutely floor the car, slide it through intersections, and bang off the rev limiter in 2nd AND 3rd while not at go-to-jail speeds is awesome. The one thing you’ll miss is the sound. Even with an aftermarket exhaust a Miata doesn’t hold a handle to a flat 6 or V8. It’s the one downside.

I added a Goodwin exhaust and a lowering seat bracket to give a bit more room and it’s an absolute joy. ND RF owner from Germany here ;-) The ND is so much fun, even an older ND1 G160 like mine. I've swapped the way too soft stock suspension for coilovers, installed strut braces front and rear, MPS5s all around, added an exhaust and a tune (which really livens the ND1 engine up) and a proper suspension alignment. Especially the suspension mods and good tires make the difference - gone is the sketchiness which the ND1/2 is often criticized for. Just to say - you don't necessarily have to buy a brand-new one. I love going on roadtrips with my Miata. 10 hour drives to the Alps - no problem. My ND has seen about 20 Alpine mountain passes so far (and way more to come). This is where the Miata really shines. And I can agree - you can beat the sh** out of these and they'll take it. Awesome video as always. Your and Savagegeese's content really convinced me of getting a ND back then :-)

@@vercingetorige400 My car hasn't been dynoed. It is a standard tune made by SPS Motorsport, flashed with Versatune software. They claim +10 hp by adjusting ignition and with optimization for 98 octane fuel. Rev limiter is raised to 7200 rpm. Of course there is no power gain up there with stock cams and header, but the additional revs are sometimes quite useful on windy roads. Or even without the tune - simply swapping out the stock G160 rear muffler for an aftermarket one makes a noticeable difference. The G160 feels a little bit throttled in stock form.

As long as you and your partner fit in one, an MX-5 can absolutely be an only car for the right person or couple. For a single person with no kids, or only one child who doesn't require a child's seat, without a doubt, it can be done. You don't do big Costco runs. You're not a soccer mom. You don't make a habit of taking people to the airport. You're not big on antiquing. You don't spend every free moment at Home Depot. You don't park your soft top all day at work in a baking hot, uncovered parking lot, etc. An awful lot of very happy people have made the Miata their only car. You just have to fit in the thing. If you do, the rest is simply about making a few basic, easy lifestyle adjustments. Go to the grocery store a bit more frequently, rather than buying enough in one visit to supply a small village in Cambodia. Pack lightly for weekend trips. Buy a hitch if you want to tote around a bicycle or kayak. These are all nothing but first-world problems. You'll figure it out. You'll make it work.

You can be tall and fit in this car. It just has to be "leg tall" instead of "torso tall", and ideally not be overweight. I'm 6'1" with tall legs, 170 lbs and I fit in my ND2 perfectly fine the last 5+ years. And boy is it a reward to fit in these cars, it unlocks such a great driving experience! I feel the need to point out that the Sport is a legitimate option, and it's a big money save, like $3,500 below a Club. You don't need an LSD in a 2,350 lb 181hp car. You can get a new 2024 Sport at invoice pricing below $30,000 today. Probably the best value in brand new sports cars. That $4,800 Brembo/BBS/Recaro package might be a good deal for those actual items, but it adds 15% to the price of a Club. MSRP to MSRP, the biggest argument against a loaded B/B/R Club soft top is a Sport soft top for $8,300 less. That's enough money for 80,000 miles worth of gasoline in most of the country.
@bigjaydogg3384
@bigjaydogg3384 Месяц назад
And if you do want to start feeding in some of those things, the little big brake kit is $650 from Flyin Miata, a OS Giken LSD is $1500, and you can get some aftermarket wheels/tires for under $3000. Seats are difficult because of how small the cabin is and the airbag light would be on. The remaining money could be spent on coilovers and sway bars, or some kind of forced induction, or just pocketed. My only issue is I wanted the adaptive headlights which (as far as I’m aware) cannot be retrofit.
@thatoneotherotherguy
@thatoneotherotherguy Месяц назад
@@bigjaydogg3384 Yep. And as I point out, the brembo brakes on that package are front Brembos only. You're paying a lot for a modest upgrade to 2 of your 4 brakes on a light car. And if you have the BBS wheels, have fuuun with the cost of replacing one if you ever bend it.

Would need a seat closer to the floor of the car.. Would have tried aftermarket seats, but they gave me a week to return the car so I did to avoid the risk of a $2k seat that wouldn't fit the issues. Cool car for the money though and I really wanted to add a vert to my stable, but it wasn't as fun or comfortable as my GT350, so I didn't see myself driving it as much as I expected. I have an ND1 2.0. I have also had more powerful and expensive cars but the joy that my Miata gives me with some modifications (Ohlins R&T, exhaust, filter, collectors, Brembo, ultra light OZ) has never given me any car that drives well. like a dream, in my opinion the Miata ND is beautiful then the soft top is the best

I have the ND1 and it's been my daily since 2017. I got the Club with BBS wheels and Brembo brakes. Sadly during those first ND1s, they didn't offer the Recaro seats. Even with the lower HP compared to the ND2, I love my car. Though I don't know if anyone else has this same issue but the Brembo brakes tends to go through rotors like crazy. Mazda said that they have experienced other MX-5s with the Brembo brakes quickly wasting the rotors. Something about it creating high friction and heat. Then again I drive my car with purpose 😉

6' 300# with a muscular build and 50# of fluff, its at the limit for sure but I fit very comfortably with a seat drop bracket in my RF ND2. Its always worth sitting in one if you are interested. I will say having had both an NA, NB, and Driven NC's, the ND is by far the most comfortable I've had of any miata.

@justwingingit1
@justwingingit1 Месяц назад
@@jareknowak8712 Yes,but unfortunately even before it’s arrived the rumors are that the price is going to be ridiculous. The original MR2 was not a very expensive car,more like an everyman’s mid engine bargain. I hope Toyota remembers that and sells it at a fair price. They would sell more cars to the masses rather than a few very affluent customers. I hear what you’re saying but aside from the GR86 hopeful scenario,I’m thinking the new Celica AWD and the turbo 4 could be a tuned monster once the aftermarket gets ahold of it…

So, …..you….. liked it? I guess? Sarcasm. LOL After seeing you guys drive so many cars over SO many videos, it’s very cool to see both of you being SO enthusiastic about this car. Even with the discussion of trade-offs regarding room, seats, brakes, etc. both of you seem to run out of superlatives to describe this thing. That’s pretty damn cool. You can’t fake that sort of honest enthusiasm. And companies can’t buy it either. Hats off to Mazda for having enough vision and foresight to bring products like this to market.

I'm 6'5 and drive a Z4M. I had a couple of NA MX5s and it was a tight fit but when I was younger I made do. As I got to my late 20s I had to get rid and got a Z4 instead. My mum has an NC and I can't fit in it with the roof up. I drove an ND1 on release for a day and it was again tight but probably just liveable.

Nice review... I have a 2022 GT Miata. I really don't think the $4500 is worth the upgrade to the Club, That money pays for lots of insurance and many years of Mazda servicing. It's also important to note that the Brembo brake package is for front brakes only, the rear brakes are standard Mazda calipers painted red. I prefer the wheels on the GT, and the standard seats are great. I drove the GT and the Club, and I saved bunch of cash and bought the GT.
