Evening Chuck, I have lived in my current home since 2002 and have installed two traditional french drain systems in my yard in the same location that have both failed! I'm in a small valley and both neighbors runoff along with running underground springs make the back half of my yard a swamp with clay and shale rock. I have watched a couple of your videos and appreciate your effort to educate and this one on how the Quick & Easy drain system has held up after five+ years has convinced my this is the way to go!!! I am done hauling tons of rocks to a system that has failed me twice. Again, thank you very much for making these videos available to all of us. Mike

Thank you so much for this video. This cinches it! Contractors want too much to take care of one side of the house, so it'll be me, a shovel, and an NDS EZ Flow drain! P.S. It'll be installed to channel roof runoff away from the house and down the slope to the back yard. No cars, no trucks, no heavy equipment... so, I know it'll be just fine. ...now if only I could channel it into the woodchuck hole... that would be great... Thanks again!

You have to take into account the cost of the gravel and wrap when using regular pipes. The prices I looked at now is 99 cents per foot of pipe and $27 for a 40lb bag of gravel. This is home depot. The ez flow is just under $7 per foot coming in 10 feet sections. They have a buy 10 or more discount for just over $5 per foot. I think with the cost of gravel and fabric there is not a huge cost in price. The labor on the other hand is a huge difference. Prices may be much different from 2 years ago though. Likely the ez drain has gone down a bit.

Just found your videos after hubby suggested a french drain for our yard across the back of the house, which is on a mountain slope. I bought this NDS and hope it's going to be easy to put in. My biggest fear is digging through this Arkansas soil and rock. Not going to be easy by hand.

Chuck, Thank you for your videos. I have been watching several methods to decide which technique to use to drain my 2 story 3 gutters in the back of my home. At present they are drained under a sidewalk then down under a patio. I am redoing the patio, as water did cause it to drop. So I am thinking of draining all three to one end then under deck steps then make it come out on top of a slope out onto the hill side, which I will gravel and make a dry creek bed going down the hill. Also installing a small bubbly rock fountain in that area...I am thinking to use PVC pipe because I don't want any water coming out until it gets to the opening at the top of the hill/slope to the dry creek bed....Wildwood, Missouri

A driveway area, "heavy equipment" daily, compacted dirt... which means not much percolatin' goin' on so it's no surprise the poly-rock is "clean" and the pipe is clear. Thanks for making this video. I wonder what the ez-flow would look like in a front/backyard installation (not a driveway) which has a high perc rate.

From a licensed landscape contractor in N.C. if you will place a chemical called Permatol on the top of the drain pipe you problem will be solved with the roots, it is used on rail road tracks, power sub stations and parking lots it will sterilize the are for 3 years in the open under ground and where you are going to pave I know it last 20 years

Fantastic!!Thanks a lot! I’m making plans for EZ-Drain in my crawlspace. It costs about 10x more than corrugated pipe, but the time and effort saved from not loading bags of gravel into my crawl space - accessible only from a trap door inside my home! - makes EZ-Drain look like a far, far better solution. NDS owes you a lot of gratitude. Or, better yet, money. Cause you’ve proven their product’s durability.

Hello, Chuck. Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We live near to the beach and a lagoon and in the recent years our undreground garage had its floor full of thin cracks and water goes out from them when the sea level raises or when it rains a lot. How can we solve this? Are French Drains applicable to this issue as well? Thanks a lot. Huge fan of your hard work and your willingness of sharing experience and valuable tips.

I've had conventional french drain at another home, but I couldn't get equipment or rock in here because of awkward space restrictions. I won't have grass in the space, but I'm concerned about some cedar tree roots that are web like. The tree will be removed, but the roots of this tree are awful. I believe it was because he was going to install another catch basin there. So instead of trying to salvage the 8ft pipe, it would be easier to to a fresh install (since he would have to use shorter lengths) and show what a product he likes now looks after 5 years installed in a place it wasn't recommended for.
