Tbop3 lol I’m responding so fast but yes. She liked him for a long time but he didn’t want to start a relationship until the night of this performance. You can look it up

@@nacht98 the lyricist is Swiss. The composer is half Swiss half Turkish (but of course when making a joke, one usually doesn't have to present all the facts)
@@zombieguyproducion Switzerland (apart from the controversial first Eurovision) had never won, whereas the UK by then had already won multiple times (4 I think). It's hard for Switzerland to do well considering their neighbours don't really vote for them
@@erkalpturk Sorry for mistaking Attila Sereftug's name ! It was necessary for me reminding him because he greatly acted turning sucessfull this song too and consequently Celine Dion's beginning of her great career ! Best regards from France
This song was her breakthrough and her turning point of her career. Should she not win this contest, she'd probably not be singing "My Heart Will Go On". This song was basically the watershed event of her entire singing career.
Back in 1980s, her costume was pretty fashionable. I have no idea why people are making fun of her costume in that year. Imagine yourself in 1980s, that’s probably one of the most iconic fashions.
I have pictures of me in the 80's with huge shoulder pads. Mind you, I have broad shoulders for a girl. It still looks stupid as shit and I laugh at that to this day.
I was a teenager throughout the 80s, and never saw anything this bad in real life. The shoulder pads were a thing, yes, but not much else from this fashion nightmare was "normal" in the 80s.
Actually she was very stylish for this stage performance. Nobody complained back then. There was that puffy Diana wedding dress in 1981 - superb. The 80s
Still one of my favorite winners of the ESC. Imagine what the world of music would be like, had Céline Dion _not won Eurovision in 1988..._ I'm happy she has gone on to make a boatload of wonderful music throughout her career!
Back in the day Eurovision was packed with great singers. You definitely should look up some more. One of my favourites was Matt Monro (Frank Sintra called Monro the only limey that could sing). Being Irish im a bit biased on this one but Johnny Logan won his 1st Eurovision with "What's another year" heartbreaking song and tremendous performance.
@@jessalinnguyen1504 No wories. Monro had a string of great songs if you're into that type of music. 1. Diana 2. So Little Time 3. Didn't We (My personal fav) 4. Can This Be Love 5. Softly, I Will Leave You 6. For All We Know 7. A Portrait Of My Love 8. May Each Day 9. The Lady Smiles 10. What Can I Say After I Say Im Sorry He did the theme song for the bond movie "From Russia With Love". Also did the theme song for the original Italian Job movie singing "On Days like These". Just shows the standard of the Eurovision at one point because most people have no clue who he is.
One of the reason why she doesn't sing this song anymore is probably because this song wasn't a commercially success despite being a Eurovision winning song, it's one of the very few Celine Dion song that was a flop so I think she just wanted to forget about it anyway. I believe it would cost them (the EBU) quite a fortune to invite her back to the contest as a special guest and perform so I don't think they would spend that much money on that, even though it's pretty evidence that they want to bring her back to Eurovision so badly since they keep mentioning her every year lol. But I also think that anything can happen, because they were able to have Justin Timberlake and Madonna as guests in recent years and they finally had 1/4 of the ABBA to sent a special video messege in 2020 so yeah, anything can happen.
Well, she did make a special appearance in I believe the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest in the form of a video. It was a pleasant surprise to see Celine at the height of her popularity making an appearance in Eurovision, but I would like to see her again in the upcoming newer contests too.
She would do better than Madonna in 2019!! and madonna already costed a fortune, imagine getting Celine Dion to sing at ESC nowadays.. maybe if it would be for a special year.. like in 3 years it’ll be the contests 70th year (if we count 2020 Altough there wasn’t an actual contest)… I can see her coming for that, alongside monogram ABBA (😂 I couldn’t hold it in, I’d much rather see them return for real as well)
+Andreas Samuelsson  The best voice there ever was in Eurovision Song Contest, is Marie Myriam - L'oiseau et l'enfant or France Gall - Poupée de cire, poupée de son (1965)
I was ten at the time of Eurovision 1988 and I remember me and my mom hoping for a Swiss win. It was such a close race at the end of the voting and we were so thrilled when Céline won. "Ne partez pas sans moi" is still my favourite song of all time, even if I've heard it a billion times over the years. It was the reason that I learned French at school and that I started to love Switzerland, years before I got the chance to visit it. I've followed Céline's career since 1988 and I'm kinda proud that I "discovered" her years before she became a world star!

Sarah Clyde back then you had to sing in s national language. Switzerland has four of them and the song was written by two Swiss producers. Nowadays often the singers are national, but the songs written by Swedish, American or British producers.
@@lorofcb3 Does that really answer Sarah's question though? Celine was not Swiss, she was Canadian, they just happen to share a language. I guess the answer was, just like today, sometimes the selections reach out and take singers that are not linked to the country they are singing for, just like sportsmen are not necessarily from the country they were born in. Switzerland most (or more) recently came closest to winning with "Cool Vibes" with a group from Eastern Europe, although to be honest the country has become a bit of a haven for the population that in a way they were representing a big chunk of Swiss residents. So bottom line, they chose her to represent Switzerland for some reason (cause she was a great singer?).
Goosebumps! Serious freakin' goosebumps! What an incredible performance! I may not like all of Celine Dion's songs (probably about 50-60% or so), but this one is a masterpiece and the woman is one of the most astonishing vocalists ever!
