$50,000 truck selling for $67,000 is bullshit

My local Ram dealer had 5 new Hurricanes in. I stopped and looked at them and checked prices. They had a nice Big Horn, no leather, $63,000. Had a real nice Larime and it snickered for $70,500. These truck prices are out of control!!!

I bought a brand new Level 2 fully loaded BigHorn with LEDs and big screen and everything in 2019 for $38,000 OTD. Paying $65,000 for basically the same truck today with the edition of adaptive cruise control and HUD is crazy... JUST CRAZY!!!!!

60k plus for a big horn/lone star is crazy.

To test the oil level sensor it should be full KOEO ! At idle it should be a a lil lower and driving even lower ! Some trucks are already reported to have been overfilled and underfilled ! Who's the dipstick that decided the truck didnt need one ?

I have a '17 Ram 1500 4x4 with the Hemi. I get 21-22MPG's going back and forth to Vegas. My truck is paid for so I can actually afford to put gas in it. I'm never paying over 50k for a pick up truck. Keeping my old one forever.

I like the design, I like that it still has analog gauges, but this plain spec sure looks like $47k, not $67k.

I've been having Rams since they became ram trucks. I was always a GM guy. I couldn't part with my ram truck no matter how good looking on the outside some of the GMCs are. All of my Ford and GM buddies have had way more issues than I have. None of them, not a single one talks shit anymore.

For that price.....i will keep my 19.

The median family income in the USA for "23 was $74k according to the Census Bureau. That is only slightly more than the as-tested price here. Does it seem wise to spend a whole year's income on a depreciating item (even if it spread out over 6 or 7 years)? My answer for most people is no, not this truck or any brand new one (with the possible exception of the Maverick). Instead, buy one 3 or 4 model years old (often coming back from a lease) for around 50% of the sticker then which may be 60% or more of a discount to the MSRP for the current model year. Make this your standard plan vehicle after vehicle and in 20 or 30 years you'll be much, much more wealthy.

The straight 6 is an inherently great design whether its NA, Turbo gas, or Diesel. This is the most interesting thing Ram has done in years and its no surprise after GM's slam dunk on the 3.0 Duramax and Rams own failure with the v6 ecodiesel. The numbers make me skeptical of reliability with that much power in such a small engine. And there is no question that having no oil dipstick is completely unacceptable.

I cannot use a 6 cylinder gas engines in my trucks, I need a V8 and or diesel for towing trailers and vehicles. 6’s are extremely under powered for my needs.

I am apparently one of the fortunate ones to pick up the $63k 2025 Ram Big Horn for $53k Traded my Silverado 2.7L Custom Rally Edition. This RAM has every feature the Chevy had, but also more power, dual transfer case, sliding rear window, parking sensors with auto braking, adaptive cruise control, steering mounted controls, and the same MPG -- about 21 so far. Have yet to tow my 28 foot Roadmaster trailer, but I'm likely to get better than 7.7- 9 MPG the Chevy 2.7L got.

I emailed 3 different RAM Dealers with a few simple questions on Autotrader. The first one wouldn't answer my question on the 24'Ram and just tried to get me to the dealership. Never heard from the other 2. I guess they don't want to sell any trucks. The past few years it seems these dealers do not want to sell trucks very bad. Maybe its a blessing.

It is a big deal with no oil stick. Plain stupid. They took the simplest function in any vehicle and turned it over to a computer. Trouble is coming....

Man I wish it got better fuel economy. Then I could justify the crazy complex engine. But as it sets the v8 will be missed

Lets hope Ram's inline 6 TT doesn't suffer the same reliability disaster as the v6 TT in the new Tundra's.

My Chevy Silverado 5.3L V8 does better. I get 20-24 MPG on the highway and 13-15 in the city.

My father bought a dodge twice in my life, I brought it three times. This guy sounds like every guy that doesn't drive rough with a truck. My first dodge was a 2011 Dodge Cummins, which broke down quicker than my 2009 6.4 Ford. Next was a 2019 dodge 1500 hemi drive it 100k and the motor never turned after I got done with work one day. Next was a 2022 dodge dually only 30k on it before major transmission issues, left me with a load of cattle for my little brother's 2004 6.0 powerstoke to finish the job. At least my 2009 ranch truck lasts longer than a new dodge truck, and it has 350k miles on that gas GMC 6.0. thinking about getting a new truck soon probably trade In my 2018 F350 in for a new F350. I was hope the 3.0 dodge would change my mind however every video people say how quick it is and the video before this said it doesn't have a dipstick, means the dealership has to probably do the oil change. It's becoming like the Chevy life long transmission, let me tell you my Malibu only had to get a Chevy technician to do the oil. I lost trust in people working on my vehicle because I was passing through Utah for a welding job in Wyoming once and my oil light came on in Salt lake. Took my 2013 F150 to the dealership and they fuck up the oil and somehow made my truck sluggish until I redid the oil once I got to my location. Also back in 2019 i had to get my headers done on my 09 Cummins because the oil started to leak so I gave it to a guy I know but later that year my cousin that is a Ford Diesel Tech had to overhaul it because that guy I know f it up bad. So like my grandpa said a new truck that drives smooth is a bad truck in a few months, also my grandpa had his 1972 F250 390 since he got out of the Army, crazy how my grandma drive her 1968 f100 2wheel drive truck out her my grandparents lived. Guess Ford's know how to make trucks back then and even now.

i just bought the 2025 hurricane 2 month ago and my gas avg between 18-19 mpg combine. Every time i fill up it show that it can drive up to 508 mile before empty. However the most i can drive is around 385 miles with 30+ miles to empty. But when i fill up. It only take 21 gallons instead of 24-25, this is a 26 gallon tank. This mean that i still have around 5 gallon left and that should let me drive another 100 miles. But too afraid to take chances. i also notice that my milage range to empty will only show low miles when i restart the energy after it below 50 miles. For example, when the range miles show that i have 43 miles to empty. Then stop at a friend house turn off my engine. Later on i restart the engine and the milage range will only show the word low mileages to empty. it will not show how many miles to empty until i refill the gas tank.,

Over priced experiment. I got burned with the etorque, 20,000 too expensive. And She'll a tis is ditching RAM, and those employees forcing big pay raises. Wish I had my 2018 2500 Cummins back . I'd suggest a do NOT buy the turbo 6.

67k is insane! All trucks are overpriced but 67K and your still getting just a mild refresh on the exterior and boring 18 inch wheels that look like their from 2009? Come on as much as I love the Ram interior they dropped the ball!!!

I am 100% for having an oil level sensor on any combustion engine. However did they really save much by omitting the dipstick? Make the dipstick optional I would pay an extra $50 for a redundant way to ensure my oil level is not low. The dipstick does not have any downsides and in reality it probably costs the manufacturer a few cents to add. Time will tell if the SST is going to be reliable. I suspect that after the first few years they will work out the bugs and it will be a fine powerplant. I still love my 22 Limited with the HEMI and this does not tempt me to trade it in.

Never mind the outrageous price, the quality SUCKS. Saw another video where the cruise control didn't work on a $70K RAM truck. Read the Hurricane is blowing head gaskets.

Man that Lone Star sticker alone must be worth 10 grand more, and everybody gets 20+ MPG on all of them trucks, the 5.3, 5.6, 5.7 6.2, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6 6.7 all of them 3/4 and 1 Tons Yeah Right call it what it is B.S. 425 H.P @ 15000 RPM if it don't Blow. Bought a 25 bighorn night edition i now have 1600 miles on it so far no issues...plenty power..comfortable ride and cabin im getting around 23-24 on my trips to work...no rattling or wind noise so far its doing good 👍 🤞

When you put the blinkers on to turn, and you are less than 25 mph, the fog light on the side you are turning lights up for you to see around the corner.

I just drove over 700 miles in my 2023 Ram HEMI I got 20.1 with half on the e way. I will keep my HEMI

I built the machines, which assembly the Head Sub Assembly. I think Stellantis were putting the best components and process to the heads, they even use Plasma Spray. Engine is being Built in Saltillo North, right of the same spot that the HEMI line is located. The process started on 2021, so it has been long time we finally see the product out there. I guess it was a lot of validation on many different parts of the engine. It should be a great engine.

And does it tell u how much to add 1quart 2quarts or just keep filling it till u over fill it dumb idea dip stick cost 10 bucks sensors stuff hundreds

They should make a TT 5.7L DOHC truck.

I swear eco mode on any turbo engines should just make sure wastegate of turbos stays open then never builds any boost

Ram has an opportunity to become the number 1 pickup truck maker in terms of reliability considering how bad the other manufacturers are doing now, but will they do that?

Ram has really raised their game in the last decade. I hope this engine doesn't fall on it's face like most of their others. This could be a great time for Ram with Toyota falling on their face with the Tundra (and soon Tacoma). If Ford wasn't having some QC issues, THEY would be in first place but they slipped a little so Ram ... time to step up. Too bad Ram is clueless with their stupid high prices.

Surprised to hear you refer to the onboard computer for fuel economy, they are notoriously inaccurate. My 2017 Ram & 2023 F150 are typically off by at least 2mpg. $67K should be a Laramie trim.

Just bought a GMC AT4 with the Mini diesel. So far great truck. Looked at ford but decided on the 3.0 diesel. Out of the big 3 doge is my last choice

I got 20 MPG in 1975 with my 1970 full size Mercury Meteor 302 V8 (5.0 litre) I cant believe todays pickups cant do better.

You should really fill up and divide the number of actual miles per gallons to get true number. I find that on my 18 3500 the true number is always worse than what the computer shows.

The French are slowly shutting down everything, but Jeep (Jeep has value in Europe). Perhaps someone will buy the brands, other than the CCP. After all, the truck line has lost half of their market share in the last couple of years.

We've seen this for years. Tiny turbo engines drink fuel like they're sponsored by OPEC. I don't know why engineers are the ones who can't understand this. More air has to be stuffed in to get the same power as a larger V8, and more air equals more fuel. You're adding lots of complexity and losing long term reliability and for what? The same MPG? It's a ridiculous trade off. Give me a V8 any day.

With the new powertrain it might be another Tundra. Fuel mileage sucks! If its suppose to get 24 hiway, its missing the mark big time. So bottom line its an overpriced truck that has a great seat. 2023 discounts are 16k some places, better jump on one. When they are gone its too late. Thanks Tim

Ford calls their engines ECO-BOOST. Baby them and they are ECO. Drive them normally, and they are in the Boost, therefore bad gas mileage.

I just don't understand why they had to remove the dipstick entirely. I can understand including the sensor, but for what these damn trucks cost, they could include the dipstick too.

I guess my opinion on the fuel economy, I only care that my truck gets what is typical for that model, as anything much worse suggests I have a problem with it.

What they list for now and what they sell or even advertise for is a different story. I live in NC near Greensboro and been looking at a few 2025 Big Horns. I am looking at one that lists for 60 with the 3.0 420 hp and i can buy it for a bit under 50. I have a 2023 1500 classic quad cab Warlock with the 3.6, that listed for about 52 and i got it for just under 43 and its paid for, i would hate to take a 10-12 grand hit on a it being less than a year old and only 13,000 miles. Mine has several useful options like trailer hitch, 355 gears w limited slip, power seat and the better console, tow hooks, fogs, power rear window, etc. so it's not a total stripper, 4 hour drive and those seats are still very comfortable. the 3.6 is FINE and i don't consider it slow, naturally a HEMI is faster just like any 3.0 but for ME its fine, i didn't buy it to be a drag racer and i don't tow 5000 pounds which i think is just above the limit but i do use the 6 ft 4 bed from time to time. I had a BEDRUG installed which in my opinion looks so much better than a drop in liner, price is similar and the bottom has a 3/4 inch padding so i don't kill my knees if i need to crawl around, on top of the BEDRUG i put in one of those THICK rubber mats. My tailgate is also LIGHT, its AL, that's part of the reason. I would like to see the LONG TERM on the 3.0 twin turbo's and see after maybe 80,000 + no issues. Check out YITA motors running boards on ebay, i just put a set on mine and i paid under 200.00, super well made with quality powder coating.

Can't see trading my 21 f150 V8 given new truck prices and depreciation. Best mpg 25.8, worst (towing) 11.5.

I’m a big fan of the straight 6 cylinder engines. I had plenty of ford f150s and broncos and jeeps but this straight 6 cylinder has been proven not reliable early on. It will take a while to get them to be reliable.

i have a 2021 ram bighorn eco hemi took it out west to montana and got 24.5 mpg on the interstate going 80mph and avg 20mpg around my farm in wisc been a great truck so far it was around 38500.00 new i think they went back words with that 6cyl.

The lighting is such a downgrade from the pre 2025 trucks

Another GREAT Video Tim! I like the new Ram 1500 with the 3.0 twin turbo, as it has some good engineering features, like NO EXHAUST Manifolds, and the Turbos are mounted directly to the Engine block.

The 2021 bighorn 1500 I bought rode good ,paint was a orange peel, the factory left the right rear bolts out of the latch then they aligned the front fender to the out of alignment front & rear door. Engine was underpowered , just buy a 2500 6.7 gas , mine gets 19.2 mpg better than the 1500 , which got 14 city 18 hwy

Although I grew up with checking the oil and doing maintenence myself, newer vehicles require sooo much less of that. I haven't cheched the oil level in my '21 F150, maybe ever and in my wifes Explorer, maybe once. Id ask anyone thats freaking out, how many times have you checkwd the oil level in your 5 year old vehicle and NEEDED to add oil? Its really not that high a %.

Does it have auto stop/start? Can it be deactivated if it has? I have yet to find ONE reviewer of ANY car that mentions this. Do you guys skip this on purpose? Or is there no more auto stop/start in any cars? You guys all know it's a deal breaker for many buyers.

Prices of new trucks are disgusting and depressing. I have no interest in the new TT motor. Bought my 2020 Ram crew cab with the 5.7 Hemi and 3:92s. It does everything I need it to do. I’m happy with it and I’ll keep it as long as I can. But it’s a scary thought thinking about what it would cost to replace it someday. I can see used ones in the future costing what I paid for this one new. I’ll take care of it and use it when needed and I’ll buy a 4 or 5 year old car for every day use.

It has only been six months but so far I am impressed with the Hurricane TY Inline 6……..Power is there and very minimal turbo lag. Even cruising in mid 70’s the ride is solid, smooth and minimal road NVH. I still say that the inline engine and “centerline” thrust helps in cutting down vibration and noise. Granted mine is a Grand Wagoneer but definitely a decent engine. The lack of dipstick is definitely a “Zonk” In my opinion but a learning curve that eventually owners will adapt to. I was skeptical about the power running boards but again, I am getting Used to being spoiled. I have my HEMI fix with my Charger Daytona!! I feel safe and comfortable AA d as long as your eyes stay about 3-5 minutes ahead of the vehicle and traffic, you should be fine. My remarks are about the Hurricane engine and JGW, but same engine and is planned to be the next “Global Platform ICE with a simple addition of the two extra cylinders and the second Tirbo. One other drawback besides the no oil dipstick is the Direct Injection engine…..sorry fight all you want , but it’s the way of the future for ICE e gone to be the future as long as we fight to keep the option. 50-60-75K+ mileage engine could be a good investment in SeaFoam but until then should be turn and burn! I am not basing the RM Pickups, just I am a four door SUV person!

No dipstick is the worst idea ever. There are instances where no dip stick for a sealed transmission. In what world would a fairly smart and curious owner of a vehicle not want to make sure fluids were full? Rams are notorious for oil burning, loss. The dipstick is quite important to checking the quality and the volume of the oil.

Air suspension is a terrible idea, every car with this was a nightmare for owners. A shock absorber and springs have really outshined bags and an additional compressor to feed these rubber failures equals an arm and a leg to replace. Happy a straight six was chosen, yet Ram jumped the shark .

We need trucks to get 50 miles to the gallon. Give me a break. We went to the moon in 1960 and we can’t figure this shit out it’s because we don’t want to.

Everything I have seen online shows the new six doesn’t get as good of mileage as the hemi and it’s a no for me on the dipstick.
