@@charliebear1436 If you think that you have no idea. The current allowance out of UC that is for food is about £2 a day for an adult. Basically £185 is the most you will get on basic benefits (or was last time I looked) and that has to cover rent as well as all other bills and living expenses. Not only that you either need a newish smart phone or an internet connection to do your UC application and journaling etc. And no you cant use the local library as most of them have closed.

Many of my colleagues said they ‘wouldn’t be seen dead on a bus’ and I live in what would be considered a rural area, but I made it work by using buses, walking and a very occasional taxi.

If you think that's tough try living on basic benefits. IE £185 a week including what you have to pay towards rent. If you are on the state pension it's £185 plus something towards rent. This is assuming you are single. The gap is bigger for married couples renting.

Alot of the food is donated, supermarkets also have food donation boxes after you go through the tills so customers can put whatever shopping they feel nessassary to be donated... it is mainly full of tinned foods & essentials, toothpaste, toilet rolls etc... but i have worked for companies before and over heard other workers saying they go to food banks!!! which sickened me to hear as this is for the people in need... even heard a fat gardener that owns a business & receives good money say he uses food banks to save money so he can go on holiday ever month!!! which made me think is there really a cost of living crisis or is eveybody doing what i have overheard... confusing with the figures!!! 🤷

You do know that you can get free clothing at homeless shelters right? Or buy designer clothing for a few pounds in a charity shop? Poor people are usually very hard working and care more about others but some who never have had to work or need to scrape up money for things still seem to think that they can tell everyone else around them that they the poorest people are wasting their money or not working hard enough!

The Trussell trust has 120 full time staff and nearly 30,000 volunteers. I suppose you expect the CEO to work for free, or to do it for minimum wage. The CEO gets paid less than an MP and MP's salary is linked to snr civil servants at least it used to be. My point being the CEO of the trust could go elsewhere and get paid more for doing less. PS I do not now nor have I ever worked for the TT. I'm just someone who believes NGO's are important and their staff deserve to be paid inline with the work they do. Most are underpaid.

It's in their interests to promote themselves in the media, and keep promoting people are going hungry, that way they get more donations. It was reported that last year they had an income of £60 million which gave them an excess of £40 million. In 2021 they had 6 employees earning between £60,000 to £100,00 and in 2022 they had 25 people earning within this range, and if my calculations are correct in excess of £1.5 million is being spent on these 25 employees wages. This is excluding pensions etc. This can be checked online on their Annual Report and Accounts. I think people should be aware what their donations are being spent on, and it's not just to help feed hungry people, they want to spend donated money on other things such as research. However, doing research allows them to spin the truth to keep themselves relevant. We need independent and unbiased reporting to find out how many actually need food banks and why. For example, how many are those who have no recourse to public funds? How many are using them just to get free food? How many are using them because they haven't budgeted properly? How many are using them temporarily between jobs? How many are on benefits?

Does looking out for the rich include paying the CEO of the food bank mentioned in this news report in excess of £80,000 a year? Do you really think a food bank CEO and Labour supporting channel 4 won't give you a biased report?

Compared to when in history. A few hundred years back? Sure. But that's a pretty pointless statement. The reality is that "we" aren't really well off, certainly not compared to the early 2000s. The wealth ceiling has risen but most of us are now having to get by on less and less as prices continue to rise. Well they are meant to need a referral from a professional...GP, teacher, social worker etc, and there's a limit on how many times they can go, so you are misguided.....many places run pantries where you pay a sum for a number of items.... I have used them myself and I work....no doubt you would have judged me for picking up shopping assuming it was free....get your facts straight
