This is my favorite NECA Godzilla figure, and in my opinion probably the best one when looking at it critically compared to other NECA stuff. He's my personal favorite Godzilla figure period alongside the Bandai Titanosaurs, MSS Salunga and Hiya Kong. He's got the African bullfrog face, He's got the perfect color & scale details, Fantastic tail movement, Best Godzilla design, Crappy leg movement though... And Well I love em.
In all seriousness, I do find it hard to think any other NECA release even so much as competes with this guy.. I see many saying 1964, but.. ehh... I dunno. This guy was just a smash hit out of the park and a total game changer for NECA. I just wish we could've seen more like this guy... build, quality, paint.. all of it. Lord knows some later releases could've really benefitted from it.
the hype surrounding this figure is one of the best things about 2019, and i agree with ya this is my favorite NECA Godzilla figure, sure it’s stylized but damn this figure is a major milestone for the NECA godzilla line back then
I remember seeing those first promo shots for the first time and being FLABBERGASTED at just how minted he looked. Goddamn. May not be 1 to 1. But like ya said, Major Milestone. Huge. It's really here where I remember the whole SHMA vs NECA debacle coming up and being screeched to the heavens like Dinosaur Death Metal. Oh thems where some TIMES.
Happen to agree with you on 62 being the best NECA Godzilla. I own 62, 64, 84, 89, and Shin. When I first got them, 62 and 64 were about even for me at the top spot; however, after a few years with all of the figures, 62 is the one that stands out the most and that I love to display on the shelf. I think that it is the most solid sculpt out of the lineup with only a few slight eyesores (gaps from the jaw Hinge, nose sculpt/paint a little uneven, gaps with the hand articulation). 64 looks fantastic in some angles but in others a bit fugly ( thinking straight on with its chipmunk cheeks). I think it is the only NECA made that really gives Monsterarts and vinyl alternatives a real run for their money.
'62 really comes off as a labor of love from NECA, I dunno if it was just a new sculptor or just a sense of bias, but very very few came close to this tank! While I do agree that 1964 is very close, I don't think it ultimately touches KingGoji. One of the moments where SHMA absolutely overtook NECA in terms of everything. Had the line furthered along in this form of quality, no doubt we'd be getting some of the highly requested sleepers at this point! I just wish it wasn't an "If" ... sad.
So a lonely but extremely excited me went out one day to get my first decent articulated godzilla figure, was going to pick up 2019 from My local comic shop, when I got there and it was closed my disappointment was immeasurable. As I went to walk back to the bus station to take my sad ass home I stopped in a dvd store (HMV) to check on new releases and on top of the world film section, by himself, not on a shelf but just stashed on top, was this beautiful, red and amazing king kong vs godzilla box, and my heart sang, I may not have seen the movie or know what it was at the time but I picked it up without hesitation. When I got home and opened it up, the first thing I did was watch your review and it instantly made me fall in love with it even more. Still to this day its definitely one of my favourites and definitely has the best memory attached to him. Plus he was the cheapest too, £10 less than the rest so can't complain. Started my collection of getting one of each mold of godzilla from neca. My wallet thanks you Rob . I finally completed it 2021 Christmas when I picked up the reissue of 85 for... Nearly £50, yikes we don't talk about it. Bloody fantastic. But one of my personal favourite necas has to go to my 2019,because I got extremely lucky with the pain and it genuinely looks fantastic. To the point I feel no need for shma (because I don't have more money than sense) and hiya. Plus he scales perfectly with shma kong. And he is by far the most accurate painted 21 godzilla even though its supposed to be 2019 lol. But enough of my mad rambling, 62 is a sodding fantastic figure who sits with my Mezco kong. Thank you Rob for introducing me to a line that made collecting godzilla figures affordable and not making out that you should only spend out on shma because everything else is rubbish in comparison. Any time someone shames me for only having neca and I feel a little embarrassed for the lack of "high end" stuff I binge your reviews of neca and I'm back in love with neca again. Hope all goes well man! I look forward to seeing the rest, I've been waiting for this since you said you was redoing it some time ago. 62 is my fav as well and 84 big G with the updated spines, my only regret is not getting the splattered colored version of biolante but for the versions neca did release I’d say the suits were pretty well rounded but man do I wish they still had the license
I miss em too, really, I'd love to see what they did beyond GvK and how they tackled more Kaiju. As towards the end of their run, Randy expressed interest in a Mechagodzilla release... seems like they were finally opening up to more from the franchise. Then POOF. A fall. Feeling the same way about Bandai America too.
Goofy ahh monke goji. As an owner of a NECA 64 Goji, 62 Goji looks just as good as he has the same awesome scaly details, breath effect, and articulation (the tail is so cool). Wish I could've gotten this one as 62 and 64 were NECA's real game changers. They are definitely the showa gojis figures in the line and I wish we could've gotten more (especially 74).
The game changers, indeed! Seeing how these came out, yes, a 74, 68.. hell any of them, would've been super cool to see happen at an affordable price! Would've loved to have seen NECA's take on 1999/2000 since Yuji Sakai aint out here giving it to us via SHMA. Ugh. I want NECA back dammit.
Oh so you're going to review every NECA Godzilla figures chronically i.e starting from 1954 all the way to the present? That sounds awesome! From looks alone, I can agree '62 Goji is NECA's best figure, imo.

I have this figure, but it’s got a problem with his jaw. The jaw isn’t inserted fully and it causes him to have a noticeable overbite. Do you have any ideas on how I could fix this? Brute force isn’t working so far
