This is my favorite Turtle figure that NECA has made. It makes me want them to do their own line of IDW Turtles. I like how unique the other Turtles in this line are gonna be, but I love how this isn't too far off from a classic Turtle design but just with a little more character. I love it when each turtle looks visually distinct besides the color of headband.
Man, that is bloody gorgeous! I love the aesthetic of this design; the matte finish screams quality, and NECA clearly devotes time and care to their figures, as well as their respected IP. I cannot wait for your Top 10 Figures of the Year list, Mister Anthony! Should be jolly good fun!👍 Giovanni Marino, M.D.🇬🇧
Neca is cleary one of the best figure companies out there. And it's not a new things. Yes sometimes they release a crappy figure with QC issues but most of the time it's great for a very reasonable price. The Neca Universal Monsters line is gorgeous. And I have some old figures like the "player select" Legacy of Kain Raziel from 2008 : still an incredibly beautiful figure with great details, texturing and paint. Sometimes I wonder how they can make money. It can't be that all the other companies are scammers. And if they were, why would Neca be so honest ? It's really weird that companies like Neca can make a figure like this at 35$ while Storm collectibles (which is also a good company, quality-wise) charge 100$ for a figure. I guess Neca is a bigger company but they weren't years ago, and the never had crazy expensive products. How does it work ? Is it harder to start a new campany now ? Is getting the rights to make a licenced figure that expensive today ? One thing for sure : Hasbro is a big campany too, so they have no excuse for releasing tons of crappy figures at the same price as Neca's...
I couldn’t agree more, I absolutely loved their Universal Monsters, NECA gave Frankenstein better articulated than most Hasbro Spider-Man figures, he can do full-on splits lmao
I’ve had Raph preordered on BBTS since he first went up, but man you’ve got me even more hyped to get my copy. A glowing review from Anthony is always some high praise. The Last Ronin line has been my first foray into buying Neca stuff and they’ve been killing it. Still shocked how much I love the Synjas for just being army builders
They’re so good! I bought 2 and then cut myself off there, I’m impatiently waiting for the white Elite variant to drop so I can have a nice solid Synja trio
It makes me sad that Hasbro has basically lied to their fans that double ball peg necks don't work. I saw a Marvel Legends video and they were mad at Hasbro for using a double ball peg because they "have less range than a disk hinge". And I was immediately like, "Bro what?! Buy any figure not made by Hasbro and a double ball peg is so much better than any other neck articulation scheme.
Strong release here from NECA! Wow! Simply wow! Aside from the somewhat limited articulation, THIS is how you do an action figure right! Care, quality, time, dedication, effort and love. Thank you for sharing, Anthony! You rock, man!
I really dig the whole aesthetic of The Last Ronin and NECA is nailing these figures. I have both of the Ronins and will probably get all the turtles (and that Splinter looks like the best Splinter I've seen). That said, in regards to this figure in particular, there is a battle damaged Raph coming out with a dozen arrows you can pincushion him with and I think I'll wait for that one.
I believe NECA commissioned IDW artists for the box, so they should match, but as someone who read the comic I would say the box art isn't as reflective of the source as the figure itself. And thanks, I was looking at The Last Ronin line as a spot where I could cut back and not be all-in with NECA TMNT, but now you have me rethinking that.
Watched your review and pre-ordered immediately and I'm super hyped for it especially with the added space on left thigh for the kunai. Fantastic review as always💯
Does anyone know if Neca will make only Raphael in the Ronin line look bloody like in the first to fall Raphael? I’m just so curious if they will make them all with the battle wounds too
NECA is probably one of my best arguments to the people who justify prices skyrocketing on lines like SHF, Figma, Hasbro, etc. NECA is far smaller than Bandai and Hasbro and consistently put outs beautiful, solid figures. My only hope is that they branch out into more IPs; I miss the days of them doing gears of war, crysis, world of warcraft, diablo, etc., amazing figures.
I love how this raphael came out looking. I love how armored he is, and Raph is my favorite turtle. I really like this figure so badly. How did you find him because I want to see if I can find him too. I was actually surprised that you liked this figure, that makes me want him even more. Thanks for reviewing this figure, i now know he is definitely a must-grab figure that i will need to find.
The more accurate is the artwork on the cover. Thats a panel from the actual comic. Regarding Neca. I received a pile of loot last year with The Last Ronin figure and some imports, including the Super Saiyan 2 Goku (shf event exclusive) and the Last Ronin put them all to shame. I still remember feeling almost cheated by the price of the imports vs the price of NECA and what I got in return (in aesthetics, enjoyment, etc.)
thank you for pointing out the “ralph” thing. i thought i was going crazy always seeing people say that instead of “raph”. always bugged the shit outta me lol. another great video, staying tuned for the next basement update! keep it up man
Oh man... I have to say, Neca's really bringing me back to something that I •absolutely loved• when I was like, six/seven years oldーtakin' it back to '91, when I was in an endless war with my cousin over who had the most thorough/badass TMNT action figure collection xD (sadly, he ultimately won that war, and, distraught, I moved on to X-Men xþ) Between these, the '90s movie figures and the Universal Monsters crossovers, I've rediscovered my love of 🐢🔋 xD I •frickin' love• that comic-bookesque, matte finish and the thick, bold outlines 🤤 Aww man… So, the other day, I was at Best Buy, and I decided to scope out their newest Neca crop. I was actually looking for the Leonardo/Igor figure (xD) …or the Master Splinter/Van Helsing figure …or the Feral Predator… or the Dog Creature from The Thing… 😮💨 Anyway, they had •this very figure• there, and while I did love it, I guess I was just so miffed about them not having any of my primary targets that I just ignored this 😒 And I'm really kicking myself for that now =þ Think I might have to head back tomorrow, though 😉 So uhh, yeah, thanks again for the recommendation, Anthony hehe P.S.: I'm sure you've already thought of it, but I believe the word you were looking for was "collage." 🎉😱🎊 "Secret Word‼️" (yes, a Pee Wee Herman joke that didn't didn't involve public… uhh… let's say "transportation," just in case there kids present =þ)
don't know why they didn't use the same sai sculpt from the last ronin figure since they are supposed to be the same sai. plus the one that came with the last ronin had wider prong gaps so you could easily get the fingers in there.
That looks AMAZING! I didn't pull the trigger on Karai, which looks great but has a lot of flaws. This is the best looking figure in the line thus far, hands down.
Damn you almost got me to buy it as I agree from a design and visual point of view its awesome but I've never been in love with the Turtles to begin with and I'm still looking for the ones to push me over the edge. If the SHFiguarts ones were affordable that might be the closest to what I've liked especially in terms of their articulation but this guy I probably wouldn't try unless I got em on sale for $25-30 as Turtles are already limited by their shell and he seems to be average or below in that department. Question do you think considering we see so many companies attempt their own will we ever see someone more talented/creative such as Juhn from the Jada team actually attempt to innovate with the Turtles. Is there not any way someone could split the shell in half at the waist, hide it with a belt and give some proper torso articulation to these characters? It seems like such a good idea, obviously it might be difficult to execute but if anyone ever pulls off Turtles that can articulate above and beyond they'd immediately be flocked to and sell like hot cakes. SHFiguarts shoulder articulation for the turtles looked so good, now I'm just imagining turtles with a well engineered half split torso shell. They're figures that are so over produced but everyone does such a similar job in their designs.
@anthonyscustoms not sure if you've done one. Would love to see a video of your personal top ten figures of your entire collection. A collection display video when your display room is completed and set-up would be amazing.
As far as i remember, "Ralph" started to be a thing after some game journalist lady mispronounced Raph's name like that. People still making fun of it.
My question is, how tall are the ninja turtles actually supposed to be? Cause in my head, they’re around 5’-5’5” I thought they where shorties. So this is to tall for me, looks amazing though, thanks Anthony!
Did you eventually manage to free that stuck shoulder up? I've had 8 NECA cartoon turtles, so that's 16 shoulders in total. Out of those 16 only 6 shoulders were fully functional, the rest were partially or fully stuck that no amount of heat treatment would free up. That's only 37.5% fully functioning shoulders. What's up with that? Does NECA not know how to design shoulders or they just don't care about QC?
No! I still think the 90's movie version is the best because its a perfect combination of real-world and cartoon style. All this gear is giving me a bit of a Michael Bay turtles design.
@@AnthonysCustomsthey really aren’t. A quick google search points out that they are meant for disarming and disabling people. In fact you could almost say they are related to batons. So they are basically batons that catch blades
Looks nice if not busy. I prefer the old school and/or 1990 movie looks. I'd be fine with them all wearing red masks and having their weapons be the only identifying markers.
