Wow, fuckin solid list! Don´t know any other Metal RU-vidr, coming as close to my personal taste than You, Nick. I just miss 2 very special releases, that i hold in extremely high regards this year which are: Pharmacist - Flourishing Extremities on unspoiled mental Grounds Which gives me so much Symphonies of Sickness Vibes, that i did return to it this year more than i did to Symphonies. And my personal Album of the year, which is a Death Metal Release, that practically everybody is sleeping on, at least it didn´t appear in any AOTY list I saw so far. Even I did need some listens to get into it, which might be a good explanation why this album flew under the radar in a year so jampacked with wonderful Death Metal relesses. I´m talkin of: Castrator - Defiled in Oblivion Unreached in intensity, especially from the drumming and the vocal performance. Love the flavour of the spite screaming out of it. Love the "Go and stop" riffing, reminding me of one of my alltime favourite Death Metal releases which is False by Gorefest, the overall sound, and last but not least, it´s finally one Death Metal release where i don´t cringe at the lyrics, which is a lot. so if You´ve missed out on this, give it a try. It´s just awesome.

Hey Nick! Been awhile and sorry I haven’t commented in awhile. Great video and I only am aware of Undeath, Wormrot, Voivod, Ripped to Shreds, and Phobophilic. The rest are completely unknown to me. I have tried my damndest and hardest to get into black metal and I can’t do it. I think it’s the vocals really. Also I haven’t heard that new Voivod yet either 😵‍💫. Killer job buddy

On March 10th, Riverside, California deathcore act SUICIDE SILENCE will be releasing their seventh album, entitled *Remember... You Must Die!* It will be their first album with new drummer Ernie Iniguez as well as the fourth one with former All Shall Perish vocalist Eddie Hermida, replacing Mitch Lucker who unfortunately died in a motorcycle accident back in 2012.

New Cave In blew me away! I know I’ve mentioned that I love Mutoid Man more but wow that album is nearly perfect!

Great list, Nick. Lots of food for my ears there that I haven’t listened to. In fact, I’ve avoided the Voivod one, because I haven’t really ever listened to them, although they have such a long and (everyone says) illustrious discography. So I feel that my lack of context is likely to severely warp my understanding of the new record and the band itself. That lack of context is sure to have me spinning my wheels in a vacuum and failing completely to come to grips with it. Might take the plunge at Dimension Hatross first… Anyway, ‘nuff said there. Here is my top 10. I had initially split EPs off from the rest, but I changed my mind on that. I also ended up ranking Vile Rites higher than Worm, which surprised me. 1. White Ward: False Light I think enough has been said about this one. I’m pretty sure it’s sax though, not trumpet. Certainly sounds like sax. 2. Blackbraid: Blackbraid I. Loved this , so many great tracks, but particularly taken with how As the Creek Flows… and Sacandaga meld together. Sacandaga is such a fucking banger. 3. Gołoledź: Gołoledź. This seems to have flown under everyone’s radar. I randomly checked out my RU-vid feed from Black Metal Promotion, which I ignore more than I should, and this leapt out at me. Raw and clattery with super-prominent drums, this has been something I’ve jammed repeatedly since. 4. Ripped to Shreds: Jubian. We seem to have this ranked at the same level. You’ve said everything that needs to be said on this one. That 10 minute track is so killer. 5. Sonja: Loud Arriver. Cheesy as all hell, but everyone needs a sing-a-long, right? This thing is packed full of killer fucking riffs and great song-writing, from the former guitarist of Absu. Haven’t seen this in any end-of year lists, which I feel is a shame. 6. Immolation. Acts of God. Loved it. 7. Vile Rites: The Ageless (EP). New band, their first release. Great playing, awesome tunes. Check it out! 8. Wiegedood. There’s Aways Blood at the End of the Road. Angular, cuts like glass. “Until it is Not” very Burzum-y. I loved their older stuff so this was a bit of a surprise at first, but they needed to make a change after three fairly similar albums. 9. Cloud Rat. Threshold. Great stuff, loved the dynamism and changes of pace. And the agonised screaming of course. 10. Oceans of Slumber: Starlight and Ash. Not really metal but metal-adjacent. I expected to see this feature somewhere on more lists than it has actually. Very well-written songs, Camry’s amazing singing and really well -produced instrumentation. The drums sound amazing on this.

That was our Pantera, Deftones,SOAD, Fear Factory for your generation. I saw RUSH in 1978/Hemispheres..Geoff said boy were old. I'm going to go with Kelly we're just Seasoned! Awesome list, my friend! I really need to brush up on some of those death metal bands you've mentioned (specially Undeath and Sentient Horror). Even though I'm not a death metal guy, I'm a sucker for this 90's revival trend, as long as it's not completely a retread of sorts. Hooded Menace, Temple of Void, Mother of Graves, Tomb Mold... The list goes on. And yes, I completely agree with you on Wormrot. Hiss is probably the most versatile grindcore album I've heard in a long time, besides Napalm Death of course. There are nuances in their sound. They can switch from black metal to powerviolence at the snap of their fingers. However, if you've read my list, I highly recommend checking out Trauma Bond's Winter Light EP. My favourite grindcore outfit this year.

Very interesting list. I'm not familiar with a lot of these bands. I have heard some of the Undeath, Spiritworld and Sentient Horror. I like those for sure. I purchased four of the albums on your overall list: Goatwhore, Immolation, Bloodbath & Revocation. All four of those are bad ass. I was surprised not seeing Watain, Allegaeon, Crowbar or Venom Prison. As always, great work and thanks for introducing even more metal into my life.

I live in Flint, Michigan and attend concerts in Detroit. Not as frequently as I like, but anytime somebody good is at The Sanctuary in Hamtramck, then I'm there. The best venue in the state hands down! Hope to see you there one night.

My listening habits have been very different this year, watching this list just made me realise just how different it was 🤣 there are some awesome death metal albums in this top 10, they would've absolutely grabbed me more and been on my own list if I had been more into flat out death metal. But my top 10 is just what I listened to the most, and I gravitated more towards the more melodic side, with one exception! 10) Lords of the Trident - The Offering (probably the most straightforward album on the list, best power metal album of the year easily) 9) Devin Townsend - Lightwork/Nightwork (Nightwork was honestly what pushed this up for me, I absolutely fucking love that disc. It's so wonderfully unpredictable and whacky, just what I want from Devin!) 8) Soilwork - Övergivenheten (those choruses just absolutely blew my mind, the title track in particular has got such an incredible hook it's impossible not to belt out) 7) Bloodbath - Survival of the Sickest 6) Allegaeon - Damnum (holy fuck what a ride. Surprised it wasn't on your list in the end) 5) Charlie Griffiths - Tiktaalika (I noticed no one here talk about it before, I implore you to check it out if you haven't already, it's fucking amazing. Top notch musicianship and songwriting) 4) Månegarm - Ynglingaättens Ode 3) Amorphis - Halo (this album just hooked me instantly, i found this whole thing so cathartic and it's been in my regular rotation since it came out) 2) White Ward - False Light (just, wow) 1) Hällas - Isle of Wisdom. Despite all the amazing metal that came out this year, my favourite album is still a non-metal one. I kinda knew this would be my favourite just because I'm such a massive Wishbone Ash fan and they do that style so fucking well, along with the other amazing elements of 70s prog that I love. I have not stopped jamming it, it still blows me away, I just love it. I won't be surprised if that becomes an all time favourite for me

Sentient Horror and Municipal Waste sounded pretty killer but those were the only (2) albums I'd pick up. I'm 56 from Kalamazoo MI and from the days of Butchered at Birth and Symphonies of Sickness...a lot of what you refer to as 'Grindcore' today is far different from the early days of Bolt Thrower or Incantation. I'm just not a fan of the 'yelling' vocals, aside from what Barney sings today. Call me old but I just didn't hear much of Terrorizer, Cannibal Corpse or early Death in this Top 40. Times are changing and it's still cool to hear the new directions of Metal. Still have lots of early autographed CD's from back in the day...mostly Thrash & Death...they need to go to a good home. I love that you cover some obscure releases and usually in my favorite genres (Death Metal, Grind) imo you give the best and most in depth metal reviews on youtube, so great job! I have some of those on my list. Decapitated was my favorite album of the year. Looking for more bands like decapitated and meshugga, no clean singing or dead space plugs though. Old-school death doom thrash vocals meshugga riffing.

Cave In was the one that surprised me the most to see so high on your list. I was way more doom and black metal oriented - probably my favorite albums were Messa with "Close" and Eric Wagner with "In the lonely light of mourning". Trhä, Devil Master and Djevel favorite BM releases

I have been getting into Voivod only this year with their new album and I think me liking the strange vocals of Manilla Road's Mark Shelton might have been a bit of a gateway to get into singers like Snake. Voivod is like THE microtonal thrash metal band. Plus, to my ears, they do pair nicely with weird non-metal stuff like Current 93 that I have been listening to lately.

If you like No/Mas you should try "Get's Worse - Teen Wolf". Also Cave In is my number 61. I love them, one of my favorite post-hardcore bands but this record had hit or miss songs on it for me. still a strong output for sure.
