Everything is carcinogenic, California tried banding so now they have stickers on literally everything including lumber coffee literally everything has a prop 65 warning. I just don’t think it was the welding fumes personally. Could’ve been some of the additives, though, when you weld with residue of things like chlorine that used to be in brake cleaner quite a bit and Freon when soldering brass piping, those causes a lot of issues. Even welding galvanize, which I highly doubt they did, or without PPE, would not lead to that most likely scenario was that he may be smoked cigarettes.

I'm a newer welder >3 years and I'll share my modest wisdom. I have met a lot of shop foreman that boast about how much money their company makes. Then I take a lap around the welding area. 40, 50, 60 year old welding machines. No extraction, high ceiling yes but active extraction. Mostly never. OSHA says that you must have a high ceiling in a weld area. Most of this stuff is metal particles. Its going to drop, the welding fume doesn't stop being a danger when the arc stops.I personally do not weld unless I have two of three types of extraction. Mechanical by means of a fan blowing or sucking the fume away from your head. Passive/natural, an open freight door. Now before I get someone butt hurt. When tig welding you can always put a piece of cardboard up as a wind break as tig doesn't cause spatter. Lastly personal protection. I wear a half mask with P100 filters in them I change out every week, if its needed or not. PAPR helmets are great, expensive but its the closest thing to 0 exposure. The next best thing is not welding. It blows a stream of purified filtered air out so all your breathing is clean filtered air, instead of the alternative.**For the US with BWC insurance you have health and safety programs and "bonuses" you can receive for preventative things. If you give your employees a respirator or PAPR, its going to discount your policies premiums **Back on track now. Use a mask when your grinding, not just a face shield as it kicks up and under. Its worth the prevention. You don't want to be dealing with WC when your sick. Its an expensive set up to start, but when you think of the alternative its very cheap. We have a shorter life expectancy based off the welders conditions during the 60's-90's when fume control wasn't as readily available. Now I'd like to see the numbers.

I work in a place where there's a welding facility just outside and a sandblasting on the other side. I see this black dust appears on my desk, white papers darken. Could that be the welding dust ?

It´s really hard to tell what the black dust on your desk is, but if you are concerned you could always contact the welding and sandblasting facilities.

@@NedermanHolding it's all around, on desk, on computer screen. To me it seems like weld dust. It looks like dirt when I wipe my computer screen with white paper it gets all dirty. Even now I swiped with my finger and it's looks like earth dirt almost
