I have five kids. 19, 13, 11, 8, and nearly 2. I foster relationships too with my children. I understand they all need time for themselves, so I make room for that too. But I request that the 19-year-old do school pick up sometimes and cheer and football drop off. The relationships have been cultivated well. I want to honor the sibling relationship more than the rivalry. THIS IS SO GOOD TO ME!!! The eldest son: 19 Second son: 13 First Daughter: 11 Second Daughter: 8 Third Daughter: almost 2 I love the significant family aspect. It was just My sister and me. We are just getting our relationship on track and are only 16 months apart. Me 39. Her 40. I am so glad we are developing that closeness. Family units, healthy boundaries, and relationships are super important to Me. I also see that in a lot of SINGLE PARENT MOMMY HOMES the mothers always have that mentality of their son being the man of the house and oversharing with that kid. They create these bonnie and Clyde dynamics and I don't like it. That's your kid. That's a child.

My family became infuriated when I began pursuing my degree while single parenting and working 2 jobs. Now that I'm towards the finish line, they use my schooling as a way to say I must think my degree is more important..Well, it affects my well being, earning power, and provision for my children, whom I am primarily responsible. I tell them this and they don't get it. So there's a boundary I have with them now surrounding relationship.

I commend you on not letting them crush your dream. They dont want look at because as far as their concerned: its a slap in the face. In the black community, we have our priorities mixed up. We'll throw a big party for someone getting out of prison, and do nothing for the ones that have graduate from high school or college.

@sevendagod777 Год назад
@@rcmorrison2004 thank you. I know that feeling, too. In my family it’s so much envy being projected onto each other. My mother unconsciously put a divide between me & my sister. I’m the older one. I always looked out for her, but wanted my own lane. I’ve had to share with her my whole life. We’re literally 18 months 18 days apart. She feels like I treated her badly when I was making a way for myself. Her feelings are valid. However, she takes me wanting not to share everything with her now, personally. We still have plenty work to do imo. Especially, finding out I am autistic recently. I think her perception of me treating her badly is partly due to me not having the skills to fully connect with people.

She completely went around Envy’s question on “Are we getting away from being a village as a family?” Also we live in a culture of instant dismissal. Relationships are more fragile than ever because they are ruled purely on emotion in the moment. Being held to unrealistic expectations and not given a chance to be human is where we’re headed.
@focusrelentlessly8829
@focusrelentlessly8829 Год назад
You hit every target with that, the greatest unit , if i may add, the greatest strength of the black community precisely is the " family is a village ". Ofcourse, boundaries must exist but we need a balance that still upholds the importance of relationships

@19:50, yes, I understand what Envy is saying. My daughter is 19 months, her brother (who I consider my son, but he isn't biologically) is 16 about to be 17. I don't force a relationship because they are so far in age. But I try to arrange things as much as possible that they can do together. They both love the beach we live on an island, so we try to do as many beach days as possible together and he loves it because he thinks he is teaching her to swim lol! He will sometimes want to take her to a playground around the corner from my home. I kinda figured it was to impress a girl. But he is very careful with her. They aren't close but, he has the mindset to realize it's important to me for them to have a bond. And my baby girl loves him too. I like the term foster and I consciously try and foster a bond.

ctg, your oldest is seeing something's you are not seeing. Listen ti her and or have that one-on-one talk with her (take her on a date; just talk and enjoy the father daughter moment); then sit back reflect, revist, review and reiterate the talk with wifey and seek her advice therein and then have family meeting to addressed any emotional feelings that each child may be embracing that needs to not be there so this dont stronghold her in her childhood and into her adult life and relationships, especially with them as siblings. Just saying. I can relate to your daughter; I see this within my own family growing up and 30 yrs later; not close with none of my siblings. Sad but i made peace with it all and told them the ball is in their corner if they choose to reach out. 30 yrs later nada
