Super o super...splendid

"Revagupti Ragam" reminds just the most acclaimed kriti of "Gopalaka Pahimam" composed by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal...that too sung by MS Amma!!! Its etched in memory!!! It does not contain madhyamam n nishadham....ie. a symmetric ragam with 5 notes...S R₁ G₃ P D₁ Ṡ/ Ṡ D₁ P G₃ R₁ S, a janya of Mayamalavagowla, 15th Mela.ragam . Of course, it can be derived from 5 other Mela.ragams by dropping madhyamam and nishadham! I would like to say here on the Gandharam....G3 in Revagupati will be G2 in popularised Bhupalam ( while Theoritical Bhupalam was not different from Revagupati...that is with G3!!). 'Sada vinatu sadare' by Muthuswami Dikshitar and 'Griha bala memi' by Tyagaraja are other popular compositions in the same 'Reavagupti' ragam. Here the maestro presented the Annamacharya Kriti-'Purushottamuda ' with a comprehensive ragaalapana. His rendition at the medium tempo of madhyama kala n ritually gave no chance for grahabedam! Class rendition. The wonderful music Professor cum Vocalist was passed away in 2014 at Visakhapatnam; Pranams to the departed soul.

Nedunuri Krishnamurthy who had worked as Principal of various College of Music and Dance in the erstwhile United A.P state and after his retirement did become the Chairman of Board of Studies in Music of Sri Venkateswara and Nagarjuna Universities. He contributed to Annamacharya Project of the TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) in tuning most of the "Annamacharya" kritis as we know them today.He was conferred the Title -' Sangeetha Choodamani ' by the Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai in 1976. Later on in 1991, the Madras Music Academy conferred on him the most prestigious title of Sangeeta Kalanidhi. I had a chance to attend his concert in Chennai..I think, at the Sri Thiagaraja Sangeetha Vidwathmajam, Mylapore.
