Thank you so much for this video, and the wonderful advice from Mr. Kyle. I graduate with an associates degree on honor roll from Medical Billing and Coding program in a couple months, and I was planning to expect that I will not get a coding position right off the back and may just accept a position at front desk, especially because I have zero background in medical field. You both extra validated my thoughts exactly and I appreciate the inspiring words, thank you. 🙏🏼

Great vid! Thank you so much for doing this! It has given me a renewed hope of possibly finding an entry-level remote coding position. I know it's kind of a 'unicorn' in coding circles, but Kyle said they are out there with certain companies. Definitely going to look into those. Currently, with gas prices skyrocketing and distance of the local health networks that have coders, a remote job is the most economical for me. Thank you both again for such an informative vid!

I don't understand. Working a front desk job doesn't guarantee you any coding nor would you be able to use that on your resume as coding experience. I feel you both are telling people to do any medical job and hope a coding position opens up. Would we tell a doctor or nurse to work the front desk and hope for a role to open? If we were just going to end up working front desk jobs to be our foot in the door then what is the purpose of certifications and schooling?
@bobbymanfred4781

Exactly how I feel. It's just a total waste of time for me. I was soo happy when I passed the exams after my fourth try only to know the certification will just be sitting on my desk a year after. It's just soo tough to get any job out there for us.

I am so thankful for this video. By far this one has helped me take notes as I prepare to enter the HIT program. One question I have is even though I've worked from home for 5 years now, I still have a concern about being ready for the real workforce when my HIT Degree (2 years) will be 100% virtual. Obviously, this is now the virtual age, but what about hearing other questions in real-time in class with everyone present. My classes will offer simulations and a 6-week rotation prior to completing the program, but this is a real concern of mind. Am I just overthinking since this is a new way? Do we really not need in-class learning?

I'm curious, I have medical experience and have worked in a rehabilitation hospital as a therapy tech and a CNA for a couple of years. I worked for a hospital for 2 years in the medical billing department had to review some dx codes or correct them if they were common dx issues, worked closely with the coders, went to school and graduated for coding had at least a year if not a little more of coding experience from a previous job and have my CCA and I still didn’t get any coding positions and I applied for 5. And 3 of them were for entry level a certificate wasn’t even required. It discouraged me SO much. Especially since PCS coding was my favorite type of coding in school.

@@graceefaceee6429 I live in Florida. I applied for 5 at the hospital I worked at and a handful at other companies. I left the hospital in November 2020 and now work as a biller for a surgery center. But I’ve been doing medical billing for 6 years now. I’ve stopped looking. A CCA is an entry level coding cert. but like how does someone gain experience and knowledge if no one is willing to give that opportunity. I get companies want the top tier people but even those top tier people started at the bottom gaining their experience and knowledge you know. At this point I’ve been out of touch with coding coding for 4 years that I feel like I need to redo an entire coding program
@graceefaceee6429
@graceefaceee6429 3 года назад
@@JMarie-mj8yw oh ok I see.. so you want a strictly coding position. Have you tried like the recruiting companies? @JMarie-mj8yw
@JMarie-mj8yw 3 года назад
@@graceefaceee6429 I’ve been doing billing for 6 years and work with coders and some coding rejections so yes at this point I would like more hands on for coding. It doesn’t have to strictly have a coding title but I’d like to do coding related functions to get the experience so eventually I can get a coding title job if that makes sense
@graceefaceee6429
@graceefaceee6429 3 года назад
@@JMarie-mj8yw ohhh ok ok. Sorry I’m totally new to this industry. Is the billing aspect still financially rewarding? Hi Victoria - I don't know if you'll see this because SO much has happened these past 2 years and heaven knows where you are now! LOL Anyway, I was/am a CMT who is in dire straights. Sadly, transcription is really a dead field. I was a transcriptionist for over 20 years, so I have the terminology down pat. Have you had transcriptionists transfer to coding? Do they do well? I feel like the practice tests and the books might get me ready for the CPC test. I've been out of work caring for my mom with stage IV cancer and I would really rather not go back to school AGAIN if I can do this myself. What do you think? Can a transcriptionist transition easily to coding? Thanks again for these videos. You've certainly found your calling!

I appreciate this video. I passed my exam in October 2020 and had my apprentice status dropped because I have 25 years in healthcare. I still haven’t been hired as a coder. I’ve done all that you speak of, but it doesn’t seem to matter. I have done charges, billing, denials, prior authorizations, etc, but nobody considers that experience even not being an apprentice. I’ve had maybe 5 interviews and no offers. I work for a very well-known and prestigious teaching healthcare system and I’ve never gotten a response when I applied for coding positions there.
