The Scarpa Instincts VS is a high quality mid level climbing shoe that works well both in the gym and at the crag. Try out this awesome shoe the next time you are looking for your next upgrade.
The Scarpa Instincts climbing shoe is a moderately aggressive shoe with a downturned and asymmetrical toe box. This will give you both strong edging capabilities and flexibility in climbing styles and enhances your climbing abilities.
Using high quality rubber on the toe and heel areas, these shoes cling well to holds in the gym or rough rock or sandstone in the outdoors. The Velcro strap closure system makes for an easy on/off when you’re ready to climb or just finished your latest route.
Sizing is really important so take the time to visit your local climbing shop to make sure you get the best fit for you. It will make a huge difference in your experience where ever you climb.
The Scarpa Instincts VS climbing shoe is a great move up pair for more aggressive climbing routes or as a great back up to your favorite pair of climbing shoes.

The recipe for Sawback Gear was born high on the switchbacks of Mount Whitney. The idea was simple, we wanted everyone to have the opportunity to experience the combination of relaxation, excitement, and rejuvenation that only the outdoors can provide. Start by giving people the know-how they need to ensure their adventures are successful and fun. Next, help people find the best equipment and gear they need. Finally, focus on the community, creating a group of people who simply love being outdoors. Throw in a handful of conservation (because you can’t go outdoors without the outdoors) and you’ve got the recipe for Sawback Gear. Whether its rock climbing, backpacking, mountaineering, or camping, if you want to get outdoors, we are here to help. If you love the outdoors as much as we do, subscribe to our channel! I like your honesty in the review. You totally redirected people away from your RU-vid videos and to the truth of going to shops and trying to stuff on. So I subscribed. Keep up the cool content!

Thanks for the info! Truly, the only way to get the right fit is to try them on. If possible, not only just the fit but how they work for you. Some stores have gym walls to try out the shoes. You might see if there's one near you. Good climbing! ~Phil

I'm not used to finding a channel this new, with so few subscribers, with as high level of production quality like this. Needless to say, I'm now subscribed. I'm hopefully upgrading out of my 2-ish-year-old Tarantulace this week, as I've torn through the left laces and the top of the left shoe isn't far behind. I'm also finding that they're not as tight as I need them to be as my climbing has really started to improve in the last few months as I've gotten more serious about climbing (indoor bouldering), and the toe-area isn't as supportive as I'd like - Not that I'm climbing anything too intense yet (up to around V4).

Mitchell Denham, Mitchell Denham, The upgrade from Tarantulace to these instincts was the exact move I made. I still use those La Sportiva’s as a comfort shoe in the gym, but any time I’m trying a new, challenging project, I’ve got the Instincts on. As I always say, I always recommend trying the shoes on before purchasing to make sure they’re a good fit and size for your feet. Assuming the sizing works, however, these shoes do a phenomenal job of helping you push grades (especially when it comes to bouldering projects). I’m glad you enjoy the channel and happy you subscribed. We hope to hear from you in the future as well. Thank you for your support! I look forward to seeing you outside. ~Trevor

Great review man...I have these and am thinking about grabbing a pair of the VSR as well as I’m finding that I’m starting to like the softer rubber for volumes and smearing...

I just got mine in the mail today and took them straight to the gym and WOW...talk about painful.....How long did it take yours to break in? I’m getting major pain on the right foot (left foot is tight but not really painful). Any ideas? I sized a half size down from my normal shoe size.

ABSV /a beautiful sunset vlog, 10 or so pitches should be enough to fully break in a pair of new lined climbing shoes. High performance shoes for indoor climbing should be uncomfortably tight, but NOT painful. If it is PAINFUL, you should consider going up one half size. On top of that, feet can be two different sizes. In that case it’s often best to fit the larger foot properly and be a little loose on the smaller foot. That is unless, of course, you can find a way to buy to different size shoes. Ultimately, it comes down to your personal preferences. Adam Ondra STUFFS himself into his shoes. He clearly knows what he’s doing. But other climbers wear much looser shoes. It just depends on what you’re comfortable with and what you hope to get out of the shoes. ~Trevor

Same here, it fit basically perfect in the store but once I start climbing and walking around the big and middle toes are on fire. They preform really well but I wonder if I should have gotten a half size bigger

Thanks! Useful review. Do they work better for narrow or wide feet?
@trevorlong7748
@trevorlong7748 5 лет назад
Sv Kot, My feet are slightly wide and they fit me (with an obvious amount of restriction in the toe box). I feel like the shoes may be a little too roomy to accommodate thinner feet. However, I’ll say that if you’re interested in this shoe, you should visit your local climbing shop and ask to try them on! Picking the right climbing shoe is a very difficult process but it’s nearly impossible without trying on a bunch of different pairs. Plus it gives you a good excuse to visit a climbing shop! ~Trevor

Great review man. You gained a like and a subscriber because of this vid. I'm a street size 12.5, sometimes a 13. I think I'm going to order a 44 and a 45 in these (11.5 and 12). Do you have any further tips on sizing? I currently have a Butora endeavor size 13.5 and they're a half size to a full size too big. (Butora was misleading on their sizing recommendations). I went and ordered a butora sensa, the size 12 fit me but the toebox was curved too far in the direction of my big toe and my foot never felt confident in them. They also had a lot of deadspace between my outer three toes and my ankle. They look sweet, but would not recommend buying them :(. How have the shoes held up over time? Only been a few months since you made this video but im curious.

nutella, We’re glad you liked the video! Obviously shoe sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. When professionally measured by 3D scanners, my shoe size is 10-10.5. I typically wear an 11.5 in Vans sneakers. The size I bought in these Scarpas was a 44 (US 10.5). They are a bit smaller than my street shoes but they are actually the proper size for my technical foot size. It depends on a few factors. Do you want to use these as an aggressive technical climbing shoe? You’ll want them to be pretty tight. Do you want to use these as a comfortable gym shoe? They can be much looser. At a 10.5 (my actual foot size) these shoes are quite tight. I would consider them true to size IF you are looking for a very technical climbing shoe to push your footwork to the next level. Let me end with this: I tried on probably 8-10 other shoes in at least 3 different sizes each before I selected these pair. I actually walked in the store hoping to buy a completely different pair that I had heard good reviews about! Sadly, they just didn’t fit right. If you want to get the right shoe for your foot, you HAVE to go try on a bunch of different pairs. I recommend going to your local climbing shop and spending an hour or two just trying on shoes. Oh and yes, these shoes have held up well. I’ve been using them for a few months now and I haven’t noticed any wear on them at all. I even took them outdoors once (these are typically my aggressive gym shoe) and they held up there as well. If they fit you, they’re a great shoe that I’m certainly willing to put my name behind. ~ Trevor

@@sawbackgear6119 Do you know anything about the Scarpa Arpia? I haven't been climbing for too long and it seems like a very good intermediate shoe.
@sawbackgear6119
@sawbackgear6119 5 лет назад
nutella, I have never personally worn the Scarpa Arpia. It is marketed as a sensitive, performance shoe. Scarpa is a very reputable brand so it’s a good bet that it’s a quality shoe. It is both asymmetrical and aggressively down-turned. This typically indicates it will work well as a performance shoe as opposed to a comfortable gym shoe. The caveat being that if it doesn’t fit your foot properly, it’s a terrible shoe *for you*. See if your local climbing shop has any in stock to test out. Let us know if you try them and what you think! ~Trevor

ChickenSpy, Unfortunately, I can’t quite take credit for that! I don’t remember exactly where I heard it, but I do use it quite frequently. I love climbing slang. What are you favorite terms that your (non-climbing) friends would think you were crazy for saying?? ~Trevor

ChickenSpy, Yeah I’ve definitely gotten that, too. I also say “slabby,” “juggy,” and “crimpy” a which makes perfect sense to climbers, but most non-climbers are like “wut...?” It’s fun. ~Trevor
