Enough people have been telling me they use Hammermill that I figured it's about time to put the paper to the test. I did some tests before the video on other projects, and that halped me choose a hummingbird with multiple colors for blending to use for the video, since that pushes the paper in the test. I always appreciate the time you take to compare products. Gives us options of where to spend our money. To me, being a painter for many years, it just doesn't pay to buy cheap supplies. The results will never be as good. TFS

Thank you so much for your comparison. I seriously just put the Hammermill in my cart and I am so happy I did one more search for a review. And, you posted it 2 hours ago. Goodness I am so happy I went with my gut to search for one more review. Thank you sooooo much!!

Great information Sandy, thank you! I'm a long time Neenah fan. I think in general Hammer Mill is meant for printing, so it works great in the commercial scene and even in the home printers but it's not designed for hand coloring. Where is Nina seems to be more suited to hand coloring and less suited to commercial printing. Just my observation working in a print shop and hand coloring! Love your videos

So glad you addressed apples to not apples re paper and cardstock weights. I was pretty certain I was going crazy with white cardstock I THOUGHT was all the same wt. ... but... apparently was NOT. Because I stacked it all in the same pile it was hard to figure out what was what!

Good fair testing, love that you show all the parts to the test...The prices for Neenah can vary, Amazon has a whole range, I love Ellen but sometimes her prices are higher...So I try to get my paper from a good source and get the rest of my crafting supplies (stamps and dies) from Ellen...support small business, when I can.

I notice on Amazon, while the price may be lower, the ream of Neehan Crested solar white 80 lb is not called cardstock, but rather COVERSTOCK . Their card stock is more expensive. I read a article on the difference, not sure if there is a difference when using Copics. Maybe Sandy knows??

Interesting comparison! I switched to Neenah a couple of years ago and can't beat Amazon prices... currently $24 for the ream. Love to support our small businesses, but not when their prices are so much higher, (EH - $54) Thank you for doing this helpful video!
@SandyAllnock1

I still pay the higher price; a small biz doesn’t charge us so they can gouge us, they charge what they buy it for plus the markup needed to remain open.
@gramletizianancy8397
@gramletizianancy8397 3 года назад
If you notice on Amazon it is not labeled card stock, but rather coverstock. There is a difference, I don’t know how it differs when using paper for Copic coloring. If you look at the Neehan solar white Cardstock it is more expensive .
@mpbailey18

@@gramletizianancy8397 Actually, cover stock is the correct name for what we call card stock...according to my professional printing source.

@@SandyAllnock1 I'd pay a little more too...just not double. What bothers me even more are the Chinese knockoffs that have set up shop on Amazon & severely undercutting our small craft stores. I'm vocal about this whenever possible. I won't buy anything from China unless that's my only choice. Would rather pay more and have it made in the US.

@@mpbailey18 not sure why Amazon calls one cardstock and another coverstock and a big difference in pricing. I did read one article that mentioned there is a difference in the two, coverstock has a shinier and has a protective coating. Like I said, not sure if this affects Copics. Maybe Sandy needs to do a review on that one :-). Thanks for the reply!

I bought some of the 100 lb Hammermil (sp?) but haven’t tried it yet. I usually go by gsm since it is a consistent measure of weight. Thanks for the review!

Both of the ones Sandy mentioned are 216 gsm according to the mfg's websites. I have both; I use the 80# Hammermill when I'm stamping a multi-step image and also use it for foiling.

I see a couple comments on difference in pricing of Neehan Solar white cardstock. If you happen to look on Amazon it is called coverstock and not card stock. The “ cardstock “ they do sell is more expensive. Not sure the differences when using Copics, but there is a difference in the paper. Just FYI.

I purchased the Hammermill 100# months ago and tried it with several Copic cards. It was fine, but I preferred Copic coloring on the Neenah even though I prefer the brightness/whiteness of the Hammermill. Neenah is 97 and Hammermill has a score of 100. Since I had the ream left I started using it for ink blending backgrounds. Dye ink blending can be particularly fussy on Neenah (easy for me to blob a mistake on the cardstock) and it is easier on this coated Hammermill, so I use it for that now. Until I use it up, which will probably be 8 years from now :) P.S. the ream of Neenah 110# is $25 cheaper on Amazon than the craft stores.
@SandyAllnock1
@SandyAllnock1 3 года назад
If you looked at the video, you’ll see that companies score “whiteness” themselves-hammermill is greyer. I’ll try it gor ink blending, thanks! The Neenah on Amazon that’s so cheap is the office paper. Doesn’t color the same as the good stuff. I won’t buy anything on Amazon I can get from a craft store in any case. Amazon has killed too many businesses. 😔
@adelleemery6424
@adelleemery6424 3 года назад
@@SandyAllnock1 Sadly, it has killed businesses just like the Walmarts have though I've never stepped foot in a Walmart. For the Neenah, so long as it's the Classic Crest line in Solar white, it's the same line of paper. I've bought it from Amazon, SSS, papermill store and even Neenah store (testing other lines too). Same thing. I won't buy my Copics/reinkers, colored pencils, at full MSRP either. We have to pick and choose where we apply our money. Many are fortunate to get a lot their stamps/dies free. Others aren't. Would much rather spend $30 on the same paper, so I can get more stamps/dies. It all washes out for me personally as anything I save I usually apply to something else. :)

I’ve stuck with the Neenah even though it’s significantly more expensive. I figured I’ve spent a lot of $$$ on the markers, stamps, etc - so it’s not worth it to me to cheap out on the paper. I put a lot of effort into the coloring, so I want it to be the best it can be. I can go cheap on card bases and other supplies instead.

Right now on Amazon you can purchase Neenah Classic Crest 8 1/2 x 11 80# smooth finish Solar white (500 sheets) for only $24.00 plus free shipping. Now, I purchase Neenah and I know this is a mistake in price and that it should be double the price so for those that have never used Neenah you may want to jump on this offer. Quick as a bunny, y'all. Sandy, if Amazon is an affiliate link you may want to add it to this post so people can click on the link.

Hello, I live in Switzerland and it's very difficult and expensive to get to Neenah, but I love it. I have the feeling that the 80IB is a lot softer than the 110ib, was I cheated or is the thinner one a lot softer? You are a fantasitic Artist. Kisses
@SandyAllnock1
@SandyAllnock1 3 года назад
Do you mean 80 vs 110 Neenah? I prefer the 80. Yes the 110 is stiffer, but Copic blends within the fibers of the paper; the 110 is pressed in a way that doesn’t allow the color to soak in and it floats on top. Blech.
