Seriously it was like Negan was beginning to break. I think Negan had a son. So Carl reminded him so much of being a father for these very brief moments.
Carl was the first person who reached inside Negan and reminded him of his humanity. We see that again when Negan finds out that Carl died - he truly did like Carl.
I would say that if Negan's men killed Carl, Negan would have killed his men who did it. Like when the guard tried to rape Sasha and Negan shoves a knife through the guard's neck.
@@firefox5714yeah that’s why I was upset when Rick got mad when Megan asked how he died and was it them who did it. I think he genuinely would of immediately and personally killed whoever harmed Carl
That instant Carl said kill me, all of Negan's arrogance, cockiness, just stopped, went completely serious and even sad. Ya can see that Negan liked Carl.
@@kaiiscorch-4460 Actually he wanted to stay on the show. Scott Gimple the Showrunner & all round douchebag killed him off because of some spoiler the actors father accidently talked about on Twitter. Hell it was one of the reasons Lincoln left too, no more Carl made his character pointless
He was a teacher in the past so he had/got to teach kids and I bet many of those kids looked up to him and he probably cared about them too.. when a kid starts to offer their life just so others could live.. i mean in a normal life, one would kinda think kids aren't supposed have to make such sacrifices.. these aren't things kids should have to worry about and I think Negan gets it, regardless of how much of an asshole he is. There are moments, where it's like he remembers how it used to be and like for a moment he forgets the show he's got going on. I think he really cared about Carl in his own weird way. He probably saw a lot of potential in Carl.. maybe Carl even reminded him of some of his students..
@@TheMentalStateZero Negan did genuinely care about Carl, but he was also genuinely *_afraid_* of Carl. That's why he kept oscillating between killing Carl to control Rick, and recruiting Carl into his ranks.
I can't explain it, but the sad and concerned tone in negan's voice when he asks Carl "you wanna die?" Just pulls at my Heartstrings and almost brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to it
He's concerned yeah, but he definitely is mocking Carl at the same time when he asks "you wanna die?". Check out the smug look that never quite leaves his face. He thinks for a split second that Carl is showing and being weak, and can't believe Carl just said it If Carl had of said yes, I think he would have slowly lost his respect for him, his affection for him and ultimately would have killed him, either in the moment or a few episodes later. But once he heard his reasons and desire to live, and Carl's subtle manipulation of "it'll make things better for my family and people, and YOU, your family and people". He just couldn't go through with it. Even though Carl just publicly threw the gauntlet down infront of Reagans people.
“ You wanna die “ was such a powerful line in this scene. Negan was confused, and I almost wanna say sad. Carl knew there was a chance Negan would just shoot him. “You son of a bitch. Was that just a play, Carl? I thought we were having a moment” sounded like he actually felt lied too.
@@Lightning-lv4bx I was just thinking that. Carl might not have been able to be that genuine and get to Negan the way that he did if he hadn't already been bitten, knowing that Negan could've on a whim just ordered him shot and been done with it. I could see Carl without the bite getting up there and putting on a tough guy act, and then Negan just telling his boys to blast him due to the disrespect of Carl thinking that he would fall for that.
I like that even though Carl was just stalling, he still asks Negan the question he wished he could have asked him in the letter. “Is this who you wanted to be?”
Carl meant every word. He knew they would be his last words to the greatest threat his group had ever met, and he knew that Negan deep down still wanted to be the real-deal good guy despite what he had let himself become.
@@LostSpaceGuy Negan encountered a bunch of dangerous survivors and he saw that they needed a brutal man to keep them in line so Negan decided to play that character he turned himself into a villain so he could control them and to survive...when Carl asks Negan if he wanted this his facade is gone for a moment he didn't want any of this he had to play a character to survive in the apocalypse.
@@tailedgates9 I feel like if that happened I don't think he would've pick Carl too die. I mean he could've killed him when they first met, when Carl snuck into one of the trucks and killed some of his men but he brought him home and even made him some spaghetti! Carl was like the son he always wanted I guess. Carl got away with a lot things that anyone else would of just been killed on sight.
2:23 NOW THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. His reaction brings him back to his wife. He never knew she wanted to die. and he wanted to be with her. he likes carl and wants to bring him into his group out of a genuine enjoyment of him. He is shocked in this moment and hurt because he feels like its about it happen again.
This was Carl”s best moments in the entire series. He had Negan right there. Brilliant moment there, superb acting from Chandler Riggs and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Shame they killed him off.
@@lol2693 they didnt go down because of carl they went down because the story was pointless because now rick had nothing to fight for. The real reason why views went to shit is cause rick left
Who the fuck doesn't? Okay, well me I hated him with a passion when he killed Glenn but GAHDAYUMIT!!! I can't help but love this dude.. Seriously they casted the role perfectly
@@kingrichard2189 Let's not forget how intimidating he can get when he's yelling at the top of his lungs. It's like a death metal scream, it's beautiful.
.y 2cents..what if the now we call happening..before soilers ..stop..gun..Carl.rushes to the gate like spoiler..saves negan..instead..of..I'll say pool game..he saw wanted more then.abe .the pizza guy..and simon.pops up Rick pulls his gun . Carls "Is this who you wanted to be?" This scene means so much more after 10-22 "Heres Negan". Lucille, Negan's wife not the bat, was the strong one. Also Carl killing his own mom, a stronger man than Negan was in dealing with his reanimated wife.
That nerve was him being speechless and empty on answers or comebacks bc he always believed himself to be this steel door that could never be melted through until that lava came along to just pour through and that lava was Carl, the only real weakness to break such toughness compassion is to hit a nerve.
“You wanna die?” “No, I don’t.” That just hurts even more. Carl knew he was gonna die anyway and didn’t really have a whole lot of time to come to terms with it until his very last moments.
If you knew what was gonna happen later you would truly understand why he is talking like that. He knows fighting is unnecessary because in the end, they all want to live. And he is talking right into Negan's soul.
I had no idea Carl had been bitten during this. I knew he was sick but really didn't know why. The show was forever altered after Carl was killed for no reason.
There was a reason, a selfish and greedy reason. Carl's actor was turning 18, meaning he would have to get paid a lot more. So the producers killed him off to save themselves money. Which is funny though because they lost a lot of viewership after Carl and Rick left the show
@@joelsamuel6457 ah fuck man that just fucking sucks. Negan and carl would have duocarried the last season by themselves. As if the show wasnt making enough money to pay him. Fuck
@@joelsamuel6457 DUUUUDE THAT HURTS EVEN MORE, if they kept carl in the show they would have totally gotten their money's worth and then some. Show would have been so much more interesting with Carl still alive, maybe even past Rick's departure
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is such a great actor. His face just as he's listening, you can tell his character loves Carl, and at the same times, hates Carl just a little bit because Carl is a weakness he can't afford. He admires Carl, and feels a bit of fatherly affection for him.
Negan v Carl was always one of the best dynamics they had. Hell, Negan and kids. During his first season you gotta wonder how such a psycho was a gym teacher, but once he progresses through to later seasons you can see him connect with kids and really show a different side to his character.
Man if they only didn’t kill Carl here, they finally gave him one of the best roles and his acting potential was shown- what a disappointment that he died.
"Scorched earth you dick"🤣🤣🤣 The way he slowly walks up using a mic 🎤 with his facial expression when holding the word dick (love the nicknames for Rick btw) funniest scene in the walking dead hands down imo
The whole thing was corny and stupid lol. All the adults inside just watched a kid go up on the walls and talk to a whole armed group of guys that they’re at war…
@@TheFlyingFish692 when Carl said "no i don't but I will it's gonna happen" that line means Carl knew he was running out of time but at that moment we viewers didn't know that
Imagine if the writers would have had Shane leave the group, after he killed Otis and he would have been revealed as Negan's right hand man at the end of season six. That would have been awesome!
This is the last time Negan saw Carl alive too. Their last moments together were supposed to be heart felt but in the end, Negan thought Carl betrayed him. Even Rick never told Negan Carl didn't betray him.
2:10 something that makes this universe that much more immersive, look at the subtle shift on the actor to the left of Jeffery Dean Morgan. His face and his look from Carl to Negan then back to Carl. It's only a slight softening of his look but it's there. This guy was like "Holy shit.....kid's serious..."
as fucked as it sounds i really admired whatever love negan held for carl. maybe love isn’t the word but he felt something towards the kid. negan is absolutely my favorite character, jeff dean morgan deserves applauds.
Never noticed until now, but around 0:50 when Carl starts talking about the families and kids in Alexandria, you can see people that are out of the camera’s focus running to safety
Well Negan told rick in s8 last episode "that i wanted to end you right there when you said you will kill me one day but i didn't wanted to end a father infront of his boy but i made a mistake i should have killed you it might have saved Carl today" He really loved Carl and wanted him to be his successor one day
Carl really broke down Negan, he got inside him, was this really who Negan wanted to be at the start? He made a monster into a human for a moment, I love this scene so much…
“Was it supposed to be this way? Is this who you wanted to be.” Is the best line Chandler Riggs delivered in the show. I hate that they killed him, but Carl went out like a G.
Knowing what we do about Negan's past, Carl was probably the first kid in a long time to be both strong and good and it reminded him of who he was. Negan coached kids, the kids at the Sanctuary saw him as an icon because that's what he appeared to be but Carl didn't back down from Negan, he was a good kid yet strong. Negan saw his potential and wanted to coach him, Carl tapped into the man before the outbreak, before he became a monster.
carl did mean everything he said and negan will never know that… carl truly loved everyone even the bad people he wanted the world to change back and be what it once was
I think this is when he was at his best. He even admitted that his performance wasn't that great on the show, I think he did amazingly in his last season though.
Why in the hell didn't Negan just take carl as a well treated hostage/apprentice? It would have kept rick in line and carl maybe would have even been able to bridge something.
@@gregoryblake5944 he was turning 18 and they were gonna have to pay him more so they killed him off also i think he wanted to go to collage and do other things in life far as i heard.
I like how a 15 year old kid can talk to Negan and his people like this, negotiate, and Negan listens to him, treats him like a serious adult. Negan was actually good to kids.
I know Carl was just stalling with Negan but I can't help but imagine how the rest of their moment would've gone... "Shit Kid, you're right put down your weapons... Now !" Unlikely I know but would've been funny
"It was worth saving those little kids. Their lives are worth MORE than MINE i have MORE to live for." - Ralph Macchio aka Johnny Cade, 1983's "The Outsiders"
just realized that this is the lead up to Carl’s demise… it served its purpose by eventually turning Negan into something else. but i still wish they haven’t killed him off.
