Some of these are ADVANCED techniques and can end poorly if not executed properly. Start low, slow and easy and alway climb with others around ! Do not attempt anything here that you are not completely comfortable with and aware of the risk involved.
Triple strand rope and solid braids work better than double braids for this type of rigging AND they are Cheaper too :) here are a few tried and true ropes. That work well for this style rigging.

You could do the exact same thing and just wrap the rope around a nub and get the same friction and not put it on to your harness
@Stridertrees
@Stridertrees 3 года назад
I rarely (if ever) use that Technique in a spar like I’m showing here, it’s most often in some small bushy live oak or similar where it’s much slower and impractical to use a nub or wrap the whole rope around a branch etc. no matter what though, the important thing is just to be aware of how much weight is on the end and play it safe. The Munter hitch isn’t a fixed knot and the rope will just slide through it in most cases but i won’t use it to my harness unless the piece is small enough for me to lift from inside the tree.

If you carry a throw line, you can use a daisy chain to tie to your load. clip the throw to the tail , once you hit the ground, pull the throw line to uncoil the daisy chain an retrieve both. Let the ground guy chip away

obviously nobody intends to hurt themselves while working, but if anything were to happen and you need to come down quick, your descent is not impeded by the piece hanging on your harness

Natural crotch rigging is the best. Puts the friction at the top. Less vectoring force applied at the rigging point. They make mini porta wraps that do the same thing. Idk if Id be showing the world you rigging off yourself though. Theirs always a better way then that. Some of that stuff was kinda silly but yah it all has its place.
@Stridertrees
@Stridertrees 3 года назад
Yeah it’s a silly circumstance to be using that technique but it’s always tough staging something to be filmed ;) I can’t always film on the ideal circumstance for the technique being explained.

3:30 : He Runs his rigging line into the triangle made by his flip line. In other words, his non-wire core lanyard is now a part of the total rigging system. Next Shot: ``Gotta be careful with systems like these. High risk of friction, melting ropes and melting backup systems``. (Paraphrasing) Play safe out there everyone.

I love your videos but man I would never rig anything off myself(even tho the full load isn't on you)! I cut corners here and there, we all do! But I don't think that's proper to teach, especially on RU-vid!! You've got a great channel, I think I've watched every one of your videos, proud subscriber, and I've learned alot.... but this could get someone less experienced seriously hurt.. no hate at all keep doing what you're doing please!! Your great at it, and to a pro this can easily be done but some tricks shouldn't be taught to a pup if you know what I mean.. ...

Well said if he didn’t use the stub on the back side of the directional load to self rig”IN FRONT OF HIS CHEST” instead of his harness as a friction control point ??? At least cut that stub off incase something doesn’t go to plan … back cut fails … the piece twists… highly improbable but if it jumps off you and that tree going to become one

Hi I had a question about the set up that you have chocked around the spar for a back up line , it appears your using a quicke in this case but my question is about your rope grab what are you using , and what would be some cheaper alternatives ? Would a rock exotica rope grab 90 work? I am aware your not supposed to ascend or descend on the rock exotica , but that should work just to hold me in place correct ?
@Stridertrees
@Stridertrees 7 месяцев назад
The Friction device that I am using to attach myself to the choked off rope is not something to cheap out on. If you're only doing one or two trees you can safely use an Abseiling technique from Rock climbing which integrates something like a hollow block sling tied in a friction hitch along with a friction device like a figure 8. That would be among the cheapest options, but it is highly inefficient for production work. There are lots of personal friction devices that could work for this purpose, The Edelrid Megawatt, the Rock Exotica Akimbo, Unicender, hitchcord and rope wrench etc.
@TimberTrainer
@TimberTrainer 3 года назад
Like any new rigging technique, start small, and test the setup before going big. The second cut was stubborn to break off, but rigged properly. The most important thing to remember for natural crotch rigging is to have the working end on the bottom, and the running end on top. Otherwise you'll end up with the cut piece dangling from a half hitch.

Can you use an old rock climbing rope for rigging?
@Stridertrees
@Stridertrees Год назад
You can use twine if you’re lowering small enough branches, but it’s not advisable to use something designed for such drastically different purposes. Most rigging lines have twice the MBS of a rock climbing lines and they are much less stretchy, and sometimes more abrasion resistant.

I think it’s a 16 strand solid braid which tends to hold up a little Better than the more modern double braids to natural crotch friction. It’ll still wear it out

@daveelliott8116
@daveelliott8116 3 года назад
@@thececilio100 what rope are you using? Tree master is designed for natural crotch rigging and taking wraps around the base of the tree. If you have any other rope that is not designed for natural crotch rigging. You should get a couple of dead eye slings a big block/pulley and a ports wrap or a stein lowering device. So the rope lasts a long time. But if money is tight I’d just buy the tree master and go old school till you got the cash.
