Ticos are some of the hardest working people I know. Fat retired gringos, sitting on their balcony with a cold beer, while a gardener cuts back their jungle, and a maid cleans their house, are the loudest complainers about other people being lazy. You get back what you put out. Cheers guys! - G

This might be one of your most insightful videos. Maybe this is obvious, but Costa Rica, like a lot of places, has quite a different culture from San Jose to rural areas. Ticos who work for Deloitte near San Jose are definitely not on Tico Time and doing everything manana. The Ticos and Ticas who ride high end road bikes on Saturday mornings in Heredia don't look lazy to me!

As we know too many come here without any experience thinking they can apply their beliefs from wherever they come from, unfortunately this culture takes finesse, courtesy and making sure both parties have a clear understanding, any aggression can threaten ticos and they'll refuse to deal with you. 38 year's coming here, I'm now a dual citizen living here permanently 16 year's and I've made many mistakes and paid my dues yet I know the benefit's from living this lifestyle, frankly had I remained in my birth country (US) it was a matter of time before I would have died. The quality of my life even with the struggle to adapt has increased insurmountably, it's been 7 year's since I've returned and I have no desire to either, I don't know what the future holds but even with the obstacles and challenges I'm grateful to be here. Appreciate you guy's and thank's for addressing the real stuff and your optimism ✌️

I agree! We have seen Tico’s being very hard workers! Being polite goes a very long way! People coming to do things around the house in the states never show up on time! So, why are people from the states being so negative?

I think people tend to want things for extreme cheapness and get mad when they have to pay a fair price. Is that the consumers fault? Or the person supplying the service? I wouldn’t want to get ripped off either on how much I was being paid.

Thank you both _VERY_ much for doing this video. It addresses one of my big concerns about relocating to Costa Rica (or Latin America in general). The solutions you suggest are how I would treat people even if you hadn't said to. Courtesy, respect, clear communications, get anything important in writing. To improve the odds of having nice interactions with people, start by being a nice person yourself.

Lived here for 3 years. Have I been gringo priced. Yes probably. But I have gone into construction stores with my Costa Rica friends and they asked if they could get the cost knocked down a bit. I know he is in these stores a lot and sometimes he does get the price knocked down. He has also told me about other services and how much those things should cost so I have a idea.

Funny Sarah mentioned that she did a contract in dollars . I had the same situation happen to me. We were building our house and the contractor came to us and told us that we needed to pay him an extra $100,000 because of the deprivation of the dollar. Thank goodness the contract was on colones and we didn't need to pay. But he tried to embezzle that money knowing full well he had no legal right to it. So BE CAREFUL

The question should never be "Can you get ripped off in Costa Rica?" That's frankly a grossly immature and naive way of thinking. The issue is "If I'm ripped off by some Costa Rican, will the system of justice operate to make wrong into right, and restore me for the ripoff?" That, friends, is an EMPHATIC 𝗻𝗼 most of the time. That is the main problem in Costa Rica for ticos and foreigners alike. So, finding hardworking ticos isn't what's most important. What's most important is what happens when you run into the exceptions and get screwed over. The answer is you don't get justice and that is a 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 risk you need to factor into your decision-making process doing anything of significance in Costa Rica.
@TravelCostaRicaNOW

well, I can answer that, mostly 'no', it will not.

@TF-mw4sy
@TF-mw4sy Месяц назад
110% correct- Ticos are as kind as you treat them. That goes for the USA too, usually. We lived in CR for 5 months. Use professionals and pay a little more, it's worth it. This goes for car rentals, drivers, restaurants, retail, Airbnb. We should ALL be polite, respectful, kind, and try to assimilate to the culture as a guest in any country. You will be treated well. ❤

In construction cheap is expensive. Don't over pay. But if you cut corners, you end up paying more.

The three lies Ticos jokingly remark are:One last drink for the road, I pay what I owe you tomorrow and We won’t have sex-I’ll just put the tip in.

You can get ripped off anywhere. No matter where you are. If you are ripped off, then you learn from experience and move on. If l know that someone is trying to rip me off, l won't use them. Or, if l learn later that they did, same thing for the future. Besides, unless they took the money from my wallet, it's my fault. I personally think that that is the exception, rather than the rule. Always treat others with respect. Life is full of this kind of stuff. Can't let it ruin it. Gringos are much less trustworthy!

So the headline or "clickbait" is the opposite of what you really think or want to think. 😂 That's because you both have an inherent bias, as you profit from encouraging relocation to CR. The locals are thus put in the best possible light. But no, not every business person the world over is trying to stick every potential customer with the highest possible price. You can say that 1000 more times and it still won't become true. Many people who sell products and services have set prices that apply to everyone. There's also two tier pricing at times that's uniform. That said, foreigners in foreign lands beware, especially when you're from a wealthier country and visiting a poorer one. Do your homework as best as possible. Now do a video where you thoroughly explore the partiulars of that and you've gotten somewhere. Though that may only be for the paid seminar, whick is okay. We all have to eat.
@TravelCostaRicaNOW
@TravelCostaRicaNOW Месяц назад
I totally see why you say that because it can tend to be true..... but I don't give a fuck if people move here or not.I am not motivated by money and if you saw how I lived you would know that but then again, why should you really know that. Maybe Sarah is different, she's young and a entrepreneur and has a family to look out for but since I know her, she definitely tries to help people but I bet if you were to ask her, she doesn't really care either, she like to work with the people who want her help. I have videos on all those subjects.... but thanx for commenting and offering your perspective, it definitely helps.
