I am always in total agreement with everything Anna says as are probably most sane, intelligent people. The reason Ukraine could be forced to negotiate from a poor position is the lack of support. With the proper support they could probably have already won. But one thing about authoritarian regimes toppling democracies I would like to say that as an American citizen and knowing my country's history I would say for many years America fit that description unfortunately. Anna, let me start by saying that I admire Ukraine, as well as you and many other Ukrainians that I follow. I am on your side and would like to see my country do more. There are, though, a couple of things I find a bit puzzling. First is your perception of the UN. Look into its history and structure. It was never going to be a "world government", or indeed it was never going to stop wars. The Korean War was a UN operation. The UN was unable to stop the Vietnam War. In fact, most of the negotiations from the early days of the conflict in the 1950s took place outside of the UN framework. Here in the US, there are many who would like to stop support for the UN, the largest proportion of which comes from the US. Second, is your surprise at war in Europe in the 21st century. Why should this century be any different? Europe is one of the most blood-soaked plots of land on the planet, especially in the last few hundred years. The US had 500K troops in Europe, as well as nukes of many sizes, in Europe during much of the Cold War. At the end of that conflict the number was down to "only" 300K. There are still US troops there, as well as nukes. Two of the European NATO allies have nuclear weapons of their own. Surprise at war in Europe is what puzzles me. Please take my comment for what it is meant to be, a dose of reality.
