Neige (Alcest) radio interview, May - 2011 

"It's not a tale. It's real" Neige sounded very serious, almost annoyed. It must be stressful to have to clarify that every time he has an interview, though....

@overbest Judgemental, arrogant and immature much? I don't think I've seen a paragraph loaded with more canned cliches and mindless effluvia than yours in a long time. Try harder next time you think you're gonna tell it like it is. I'm always amused by self-righteous haters that cannot graduate past commonplace insults and generalizations while they're in the middle of stroking their own ego and posturing like it means anything to anyone but them.

Great interview! - Neige's answers are interesting as usual, but the unusual thing about this interview are the questions of the interviewer; I mean, finally someone asks something new! and even more personal. He really wanted to understand what hides behind the concept and personelity of Alcest and Neige. This is the point where music starts to be more than music, but art, and a way of life. I loved it!

Great Interview! Finally some without cliche. Now, I understand Alcest's music even more. It's like a trip to another world, but you already know that :) When i saw them live this summer, I was wondering "oh, Neige looks like being in another world..." He looked so "beyond". It's just like me - that's why i love his music so much - Alcest, Amesoeurs and others :) We know that's real ;)

@CamerOneiric I'd like to give that statement a charitable interpretation. I think he means that he dislikes music that lacks the ability to touch people emotionally, music that is overly formulaic, technical, etc. I don't think that jazz necessarily lacks that ability, rather, it simply doesn't touch Neige in the way it might touch others.

I think he 'hates' jazz in the way that in most cases (or what he has heard of this genre till now) is too composed, people have thought too much by every note they make.. and that in the end, the music isn't led by emotions, but by how hard the music is to play.. or in other words is 'is too intelligent'.

@chrismoltisanti That was not what I was going for (to over analyse it). It is just simply the way I thought about it myself for a long time. And I understand it if you're trying to say: Don't make the comment bigger than it is. Yes, because we're all saying these kind of 'comments' a lot, but in this case it's recorded and then it happens that we're going to analyse it. It's just human behaviour. And we're just trying to understand what he means by saying that without telling why. :')

I enjoyed this interview, though I wish he would have touched on more of the technical aspects of his songwriting and his involvement in other musical projects.

@chrismoltisanti Yeah I find that odd too. Not all jazz is 'intellectual' in fact a lot of it quite simple in nature. Strangely enough Neige does use a lot of jazzy sounding chord voicings and progressions in his work a lot too. A lot of minor 7th and minor 11ths, end of Sur l'autre Rive Je t'attendrai is a good example.

@Slugzorz Ah cool, yeah jazz is very good for understanding theory behind guitar and composition hink. As it proves you can learn this stuff without having to play 'jazz'. But that is interesting information. Thanks! :)

Okay...hating jazz or "intelligent" music is not a good way to be a progressing musician. That's kind of weak to say.
