Neighbors Call For Offensive Halloween Decorations To Be Taken Down | 'It's Troubling' | WTHR.com

The Halloween display on Emerson Avenue just north of Michigan Street is extravagant, with wood coffins, skeletons, a scarecrow and rickety fence.
But many people in the Emerson Heights neighborhood on the east side find one prominent feature terribly disturbing, and it has resulted in the eviction of the home renter who put it up in his front yard.
A stuffed dummy hangs from a pole with a noose around the neck and hands tied behind its back. Many passersby find this an offensive reminder of the lynching of African Americans.
"This is a part of life that people endured,” said Sity Wright, who lives in Emerson Heights. “People suffered. This doesn't have anything to do with Halloween. Nothing. It's scary, but to who?”

I’m black and I love Halloween. A dummy hanging from a tree is an extremely popular way to decorate. It’s so common that literally dead people hanging from a tree have been mistaken for decoration. I wouldn’t do it myself, but I’m also not offended by it. Hanging isn’t strictly a black thing. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Never seen a western? It happens all over the world. I looked more closely, and the hands were made using cheap cloth gloves. And although they are brown, I would never have noticed their color if you had not pointed it out. So the only thing I can guess is that if the "hand color" made people believe the hanged man was black, then those people were just looking for a reason to get up in arms about something. I have considered creating a hanged man scene as part of my yard haunt. But since I live in a largely minority neighborhood, I have not done so. Not because I am concerned with offending someone. But because leftist out there today are encouraging violence against anyone who dares exercise their GOD given, constitutionally recognized freedom of speech. Offence is the small price that we pay for freedom that freedom. I am offended by many things I see, hear, watch and read. I do not raise a huge community ruckus about those things. Ignore them like any true adult should. I let others hold and express their views, while do the same with my own views. That is a big part of the American way. In closing let me remind people of two things they should have already been taught by their parents. 1: Live and let live. 2: Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can NEVER hurt me.

@@rainesonne1320 There are some comments in this section that are for evicting this guy and calling him a racist. I didn't want to misunderstand which is why I asked. I agree that it isn't racist and the people in that street are just looking for something to complain about.
