Neighbors Threatened to Call the City on Elderly Couple for Overgrown Yard

In the aftermath of the 2020 deadly tornado that struck Chattanooga, Tennessee, many neighborhoods were left with extensive damage and debris. One couple, elderly and struggling to keep up with the maintenance of their property, found themselves in the midst of this chaos. Not only did they lose several mature oak trees and a vehicle, but they were also without power for days due to the destruction of power lines in the area.
The couple's house, located in the back of the neighborhood, was one of the last to have trees cleaned up, and in the meantime, a great deal of underbrush took over their backyard. To make matters worse, their lawn had not been mowed in over two years, leaving it overgrown and unkempt.
As I was out mowing another overgrown lawn in the neighborhood, I couldn't help but notice the state of the elderly couple's property. I felt a sense of compassion and desire to help, and so I knocked on their door and offered to mow their lawn for free. They were grateful for the kind gesture and I was happy to be able to make a small difference in their lives. I hope you enjoy the video of my efforts to help out in the community and bring a little bit of beauty back to this couple's yard.

@Granny Sam I have to admit, that puzzled me too. I am local to this neighborhood (My daughter and her family nearly perished in the same tornado) and there are still homes that are not restored as I write this in Oct ‘22. But yes the pricey autos made me wonder. Much of the damage path of that 2020 twister was in some upscale neighborhoods.

I think this was the most incredible transformation on RU-vid. You didn't just cut the grass and take care of the bushes and trees, you made it look like a Home once more. When you planted the flowers, I cried. This was more than a clean up. I'm an old lady who can barely take care of anything, anymore, and this video touched my heart. I hope the homeowners enjoy their new yard. It looks awesome!

It's not the neighbors responsibility to do anything. Times are tough for everyone. The homeowner needs to take care of their property in one of two ways. Either do it yourself or pay a landscaper to keep up with maintenance. The same goes for the interior. Its not sanitary to not repair broken things.

Man, you're an incredibly hard worker! The amount of work you did at no cost is unbelievable. I watch many channels like these and I've never seen an individual commit to full 4 days of sweat, back-backing work! I'm also new to the channel and I conmend you and all your hard work. You are a rarity these days. Most people on RU-vid do this type of work for the right reasons. They want to help the less fortunate and the elderly that can't do or afford simple yard work. There are some that do it for monetary purposes and I don't give those people my time or support. You, however did so much for this couple and I thank you. This is an incredible transformation! It really looks like a completely different yard. You should be extremely proud of all the work you did.

Alex, your transformation of that elderly couple’s property was EPIC! The backyard looked like some film company could have filmed a jungle adventure movie and not have to go on location in Asia or Africa. What was really sad was that those neighbors never offered to help out the couple. The neighbors got lazy-minded and decided it was easier to call city hall and threaten the couple. I wouldn’t want to live in a neighborhood like that, not with vicious attitudes like that.

As a 70+ year old woman who at one time spent a lot of time outside doing yard work and for the last 12 to 15 years have been disabled can greatly appreciate what you have done. To me people like you are right up there by people who help neglected and abandoned animals. You are amazing. I too would like to thank you for doing their yard. And I truly hope that IF YOU EVER FINE YOURSELF in a spot that you need help, there will be many who will be there to lend a hand.

Bless your ❤ Young Lady! I'm 63 and disabled since 2005, Iraq. Used to cut lawns at 12-16 for $2 and ice tea, in the Maine summers. Same price to shovel snow in the winter. Only difference was hot chocolate. Like the difference between a Rocking Chair or Hammock!😂❤😂

I too am 70 , and a keen gardener , but have started to get arthritis in my feet and my energy levels have dropped right down. I still do my gardening, but it takes so much longer to get things done now, the garden can soon run away from you . Sometimes you just need a hand to get on top of things, as it gives you new vigour and spurs you on , they say ," a garden is a thing of beauty, and a job forever " This guy is making those neighbours look sad , pathetic and uncaring. ! I was thinking the same thing! I went a step further and thought about a roma tomato plant in the big pot in back and bazil and oregano in the small long pot. That's just me I always think about planting food and herbs in any empty plant pot.

One of the first and best things was your belief in going like you want it to be. I so agree. And I am dearly hoping people see what you have accomplished and realize they can do things to help others also. This was one of the most massive projects I have ever seen. I really liked that what you have left with the plants and mulching makes it look so beautiful and finished. The homeowners, I really hope, were thrilled and spend a lot of time just admiring every day what you have given them. It is a shame so many people just stay to themselves instead of reaching out to become friends with their neighbors. My first time watching too, and I was very surprised with all the extras he did. I have watched a couple of other guys that go and mow etc for free, but I've never seen any go to the lengths this young man went to. I'm a disability pensioner in my mid 60's, and I haven't been able to do my yard, and it just cost me $170.00 per hour to have mine done. I don't live in the USA. Edit: typo

I sure hope these homeowners appreciate all the hard work you did and don’t let their lawn go for another two years. I understand people have disabilities and financial problems. But you could ask friends, family, neighbors, church members, local scout troop or local teenagers to mow the lawn at least once a month. Thank you for helping these people out. God Bless you!

What an incredible transformation. It is so wonderful to see someone actually making a difference in peoples lives. That tornado was so devastating and so many people out of their homes for so long. My daughter lives in Ooltewah and thankfully they didn’t get any damage. Subscribed, liked, and shared. Good luck with your channel will be watching.

Man, that mower is a BEAST!! I don’t know anything about commercial mowers but it cuts so evenly and you must keep the blades well sharpened. Now if they’d just have the dead cars towed away they’d have a property to be proud of. Fantastic job and the world is a better place of you!

I hear you! And if you get in to a smaller place with no yard work, just imagine all the other fun things you can do instead. When we redid our yard, we put down anti-weed sheeting, took out all the grass and put in gravel. It was a life saver. We are over 76!

I have to compliment you and your dedication delivering one of the best yard makeovers. I watched the entire video as I love to watch you guys. You were very meticulous to details and left no stone unturned. What you did for this couple is so much appreciated for so many of us all over the world. I live in Raleigh, North Carolina. I could tell you had a master plan and put a lot of thought behind this project as it was visible to me that you strategic in planning. Your editing was spot on, you did very little talking, which is good, makes you feel you are watching a movie. Your explanations kept us in the know and your precision with your equipment was outstanding. Your content was not boring at all, and I personally felt like you were telling a story and I found myself kind of rushing you, but I just cannot say enough. I commend you as I hope and pray your channel will continue to grow and prosper and God you know will take care of you and however youtube works and you guys are paid then fantastic, and everyone ends up a winner and very happy. This is how you do something for someone and say it's free. You went above and beyond on this yard. You have truly blessed this family and I know you will be blessed beyond measure. I don't understand how anyone would not help when the neighbors knew they were elderly. Yet elderly or not when hurricanes and tornadoes were present that's when you all get together as a neighborhood and help one another. But YOU, did amazing. I can't say all the words here to what a beautiful job you did. The extra touches, detail and hauling away took it over the top and yes I watched to the end because I knew it was going to be EPIC. 💖💖💖💖 I couldn't help but subscribe.

Probably the best yard transformation I've watched. The back yard was incredibly overgrown, but you tackled it with great skill. The front also showed your attention to details, clearing off the steps at the front door, revealing the garage door thar was covered. Truly an awesome job on your part. I am new at watching yard videos. I'm an elder lady and I have to do everything myself. Which is so hard. I did finally hire someone to do my yard but doesn't even compare to you. Never would I have even emagine I'd be watching them but now I am addicted to them. You just amaze me. I have to watch ever minute . Your such a very thoughtful, caring young man.
