That's hilarious when Bert says there's 25 million nanometers in an inch and everybody's just looks at him quietly.. like "Holy shit!" before they realized he read it off the screen.
It's intimidation and fear of looking stupid. It paralyzes people. And academics know that. If you use obscure words that people don't understand and speak with the condescending tone of a lifelong academic you can intimidate people into submission. Even if you're wrong and the other person is right they will still submit to you because they're so scared of looking stupid. And the bigger your ego is the bigger your fear of looking stupid is. They actually proved this in a study where they put a group of children against a group of CEOs and the challenge was who could build the tallest structure out of popsicle sticks in 30 minutes. The children ended up winning because they had no egos and considered every idea while the CEOs were too scared to throw out ideas because of their paralyzing fear of looking foolish.
You guys have been nailing it lately! loving the guests for the most part. What's tomorrow, Colin Quinn with Dr Michio Kaku? I wouldn't mind it. Try getting Tom Segura on at some point, even better if you pair him with Bert, or wife Christina.
It's dumb because nobody else is playing that game. Big pharma for instance spent $4.5 billion in lobbying campaigns over the last few years. Throwing Neil in the mix would at least help to balance destructive and powerful corporations from further bastardization of democratic principles.
Fun fact: The Wright Brothers flew for the first time in Kill Devil Hills NC. They didnt have a post office at the time so the letter was sent via the Kitty Hawk post office.
I was moved by Felix's jump, not because of his proximity to space, or the technology involved. Had to do with the human spirit and determination. Takes balls to go up there, jump, break the sound barrier (the point of the jump was to break the sound barrier, not jump from space, just so happens that you kinda need little to no air to free fall at those speeds) then land on your feet like a boss. I'm a "normal" person, but no one got exited due to the "space" aspect of the free fall. Has to do with the speeds he reached, and the control he exuded. Unless I'm more intelligent than most, and I'm giving the majority of people too much credit lol.
@@stephched4270 Actually you are pandering to my wishes for attention. I could care less what you think, all I did was typed out what I think, and hit enter. Now youre giving me attention because youre insecure about your intelligence. So you felt the need to challenge mine. But keep pandering to my wishes of attention lmao.
I love when neil comes on, by far one of my favorite guests on the show. I find it funny but drives me a bit nuts Jim has asked the same can we see the big bang yet, is an object going to hit us, aliens and the ray k. singularity question almost every interview. Still I love it.
I remember a debate where Christopher Hitchens debated a guy who claimed he didn't have to listen to reason because he had a 2000 year old book he trusted whole heartedly and couldn't deviate from. Chris delivered a hitch slap in the form of saying extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
I love that Neil is a toucher. Like good, wholesome pats on the back or a nice forearm embrace. He seems so kind and warm. And he really likes Bert ahahha.
Can you watch this on SiriusXM, or is it audio only? I know they advertise Stern's video, but I'm thinking that is the only show. Is there another way to watch the show, or do they just post clips?
Can we either turn off the handy cam effect for the close-up shot of Neil or buy a more stable tri-pod? My ADD is kicking my ass over here while I'm trying to watch Neil talk about things I don't really understand; even though I plan to pretend I fully understood what Neil said, when speaking to a friend I'm regurgitating this video to later. Help me out!
@4:38 is the epitome of practicing restraint...Neil wanted to push Bert out of his chair lmao...all they needed on here was Eddie Bravo and it could've been one of they best pieces of content ever!
"We're not fully in touch, with the arc of time that we occupy" - @15:35 and "Wisdom should be cherished" - @15:25. Don't let that go over y'all heads now. 🙇🏽♂️
On a huge dose of crystal lsd, during the 'harmonic convergence' (was that 1988/9?), I had a wormhole experience with three other humans. I met who appeared to be a man I thought and still sometimes think had some sort of map to more of them. That entire summer was filled with fantastic improbable experiences, many of them bending my perspective of time space. I came home and tattooed a set of three rainbow triangles on my ankle. Just sayin. ;)
Bert was so giddy to be in the same room as Neil. I love how Troy is so set that there's "proof" of aliens visiting the earth, but as soon as actual proof is required he uses anecdotal as his reasoning that he thinks aliens have been here all along
