Oh my God this is the first time I have seen Neil Degrasse as a black man, only because of the subject matter of the video . I’ve always been so fascinated by his intelligence and sense of humor. I didn’t even see his ethnicity. It’s very sad and must’ve been terrifying for the kids to know that danger.

What the 84 year old man did was wrong and he should go to prison because of it. A true tragedy for the 16 year old and his family. But what evidence is there that it was race related? If you didn't know the color of either person involved how would you come to the conclusion that it was because of racism?

Even though I'm a fan of his and I knew he was from NY, I didn't know his parents were involved in the Civil Rights Movement. But it makes sense why it never really came up for two reasons: One, because there's a racial stereotype that all the best scientists are white people. Two, interviewers weren't thoughtful enough to ask in the first place.

I think it is important to teach your kids how to interact with police, especially black kids. However, I think it’s also important to understand that even when you’re doing everything right, the police can & often does abuse their power & it has nothing to do with the way you interacted with them. It’s also important to understand that disrespecting a cop does not justify the cop shooting an unarmed person. But we should all be respecting one another period.
