Gen X definitely gets it done. Leave us alone and we can work just fine on our own!

I do not know one gen x’er whobisnt proud of our generation as individuals. We are the latch key kids. We were wholly independent, inventive, imaginative and street smart. This has also resulted in byproducts of unflattering traits (which is for a deeper conversation), but all the ones I know, myself included, have bragging rights.

Best gen ever. We had an amazing time. 80s was best decade to be a teenager, we had no fear and we were so free

The movie ´stand by me´ speaks a lot of that gen-x spirit

We were little adults - look at the movies about us - Foxes, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Pretty Baby, Bad News Bears … we were just sent out to be little adults … /:

It seems like I was always a little adult and never a child for long. I remember navigating public transit between NJ(mom) & NYC(dad) by 12. I moved out at 16 and never looked back.

Makes me think of Stiles in Teen Wolf (the real Teen Wolf, not the remake).

Felt like the Boomers both loved and hated us. We were a burden and an annoyance that cut into their adult time fun. I remember spending a lot of time alone and mostly by choice.

my only complaints about Gen X are 1) not defending Gen X is...one of the most characteristically Gen X things you can (not) do. sometimes it takes a millennial like me to do it for them lmao 2) in terms of overall values, I've always related with this generation more than my own, but while we agree on ends, I think millennials are a little more realistic about the means. the paradox is that you need organized collections of people with a common mission to defend an individualistic way of life. 3) bruh, bring back some of those bad ass movies and TV shoes you watched when you were kids. I get that you're over-correcting for the neglect you felt in your own childhood, but not every movie needs to be all soft, happy and kid friendly. take after your boi Tarantino and give us some more of that shit.

My unpopular opinions - genx is 1964 - 1982 I’ve met too many late boomers and early millennials who seem genx. Also, I love the boomer generation. Sorry!

1965 to 1980....61 to 64 would have been late boomers....

That’s only 15 years. A generation is roughly 20 years. It’s not precise though so anyone born in those border years will exhibit traits of one or the other. The problem with classifying those born in the early 60s as Boomers is that they came of age at a very different time than the actual Boomers coming of age in the 60s. They were born too late to culturally be influenced by that time in the same way. Anyone in high school in the 80s is an Xer. If you were born in 1962, you would have been a high school senior in 1980. The world was a different place. Woodstock, the Hippies, Simon and Garfunkel, that was off the radar for someone in that age range at that time. Neil Howe’s date range makes the best sense.

@@wesrm1 Those born between 61 and 64 would have been trailing late boomers. I have nothing in common with the likes of Barack Obama and he was born in 1961...To me, Obama comes from a totally different generation and I was born in 1973...
