NPH said the guys singing was boring and Simon says that was rude??? What?!? Simon is the man that told a woman she looked like a man after she sang. At least NPH commented on the guys performance and not his looks.
Just because he doesn't like jazz, doesn't mean that he should overlook the fact that she's a great singer. Shouldn't overlook talent because he's biased to a certain genre.
Neil would make a way better judge. Yes, Neil was somewhat "mean" on the show, but when he says it, it's not like he's an asshole, criticism from him is good, because he can actually sing, unlike Simon. Neil has the right to critique people because he actually can sing, and he's been on broadway, which is for real voices.
Simon can sing, but Niel would make a better judge for sure. He actually still seems like a nice person while Simon is just an asshole who makes money off his shock factor and choking out manufactured, marketable pop music. Blergh
Why do you need to be good at something to judge a performance? Not all NBA analysts are Basketball Players. Not all judges in American Idol have to be good singers. You just need to be able to differentiate the good from the bad. I think he blew it on this particular one though.

I used to like Simon because he told the cold hard truth but now I just think he's tone-deaf. That girl sung amazingly! Not original? What the hell! Half the fucking celebrities we have can't sing for shit and they rely on auto tune! Put some music to the background of her voice and damn that will change your mind about how original she is. She's better than most people at singing.
When Simon says it doesn't sound current, you can just tell that dollar bill signs are littering his mind. The man who's producing some of the blandest and most mediocre music today shouldn't be anywhere near a TV show like this, even though these shows are pretty shit to begin with. Thank Science H. NPH should of been simons replacement... hes fiesty, speaks his mind, and can sing REAL good. AND america already loves him, he would of made the show much better then with nicki, mariah, steven and that country guy. the perfect panel would of been him, jlo and this new harry jr guy

I could totally see NPH and Simon Cowell not seeing eye to eye. They both have a lot of musical background, but Simon does pop records and NPH does theatre. Cowell is, theoretically, looking for someone who can be Kelly Clarkson and a musical theatre voice isn't going to do that.
see this is my problem with this show,,Simon called it "jazz TV",see he has absolutely NO clue what talent is as long as it fits into a certain current pop genre,,SO FUCKIN WHAT IF SHE'S A JAZZ SINGER!!!! personally I'd listen to a singer who can do multiple styles at least she'll have longivity and give the people something new besides the same old junk that's out now.
That's the point. It's all about the marketing and how bankable the so-called "musician" or "artist" is. Are they conventionally attractive and will teenage girls go mad for them? That's what's on Cowell's mind and realistically speaking it's not about the talent is it?

Something people don't seem to consider is that Simon comes from a background as an A&R representative for recording labels. His understanding of the music industry and commercial music is something that labels desire and need and that is how all of these shows started. So in theory without Simon Cowell pitching the idea of these Idol, Talent, Factor shows, artists like Jennifer Hudson, One DIrection, Guy Sebastian, Chris Rene, Susan Boyle, etc, would not have the fame and fortune they do now.
he's a singer too, u know! One more thing that he's a big star and super experienced in entertaining. Maybe he's not a pro of music, but he can see which candidate is potential to move on in the competition! We all get Neil is kinda a "Viewer Magnetic", so those reasons are enough! :)
I didn't see these auditions, but I'm 99% sure that Simon was saying yes to the generic pop stars while Neil Patrick Harris was saying yes to people with actual talent.
Simon is a genius, he can sing, he has sung with a public audience about four-five times, and haven't you seen Shrek 2. Also what are you all on about, what does Neil have to do with music, he can sing too. And Simon runs his own record company, and he runs X-Factor, he is allowed to change anything he wants to UK, US and AU X-Factor. But I do agree that Simon shouldn't be bias all because he doesn't like jazz.

I hate How I Met Your Mother, but I loved Harris on Broadway. I saw him perform Sweeney Todd live and his part gave me chills; his main song was difficult to sing (very fast, with an accent that he doesn't naturally have) and he killed it.
I agree with you: loud doesn't instantly mean good. Her voice didn't have enough originality to merit her getting through to Hollywood, but she certainly wasn't bad.

Simon just wants to make money, and this is very important because MUSIC=ART not money and Neil knows it well. He is an excellent singer and brilliant actor, he's so complete! Simon is one of the reasons music has gone bad over the years.
