Had the honor of seeing this live and to me this is one of the best intros in rock history. Neil is one of the best rock guitarists ever and hearing him live is quite the experience.
Neil with crazy horse is a very special combo, this song catches lightning in a bottle in a similar way to hendrix "star spangled banner" imo. A special moment in music recording
This track and the almost entire guitar solo being the length of the song(never done before) solidifies Neil as one of the best guitarists of all time..in my humble opinion !.Peace and Love
Such a great intro- slow build up.. his guitar technique is so defining, you know it’s him.. so many great guitarists have a signature sound , style .. Gilmore, Garcia, Santana, edge, lofgren, ..
First band I ever saw live - about 50 years ago 😱🤣 - and the craziest thing about the gig was the Support band - some unknown little outfit called The Eagles !
i can not put into words how much i love this song! he is so brilliant along with his band as well! this song will take you on a journey that you will wish never ends!
Beautiful reaction from my favourite reactors. My favourite Neil Young Song. I spent many summer evenings in my youth listening to this, headphones on and getting high 🤗
Thank you again for a great reaction. I have been a Neil Young fan since the late 60's when he was with Buffalo Springfield!! This is my favorite Neil Young song, and that is difficult to say with his awesome catalog.
Neil has been the soundtrack of my life and I've seen him in so many variations, backing musicians and even solo acoustic, he's not the best singer, not the best guitar player nor has he ever tried to be, but when I hear his music I know it's going to be real and honest, warts and all. I've talked to one of his sons about model trains (H.O.R.D.E. Festival) seen his son Ben and his daughter Amber (Greendale and other shows) and he's a real person that's lived a real life...
This song got Neil banned in Spain - definitely one of Neil's great jams with Crazy Horse, and even better live. As Neil says, "you can really smell the Horse on this one". Great choice, and great reaction as always. Happy New Year from Canada!
@@helenespaulding7562 Yes, Franco considered this song "offensive to the regime" - it was actually just this song that was officially banned, but apparently Spanish radio stopped playing any of his songs out of fear of backlash.
Nixon banned "Ohio" from being played by Julie in the White House and actually used tape copy of, _Everybody Knows_ as a Nixon Tape, the one where he rants about gays.
Watch Neil live at Farm Aid 1976. You might not be able put it on your channel but just watch it for your pleasure. A great musician ( and band ) wrapped up in their music and each other. The two guitar solos are immense. Neil at his best.
Love Niel Young but had never heard this song until the other day when checking out a reaction. One of the guys is a great pianist and was playing this song on the keys. Beautiful song
Hi new subscriber in the house!,Thanks for your Great reaction guys, I see all your video in this period. I have a little suggestion for your reaction, try to listen to 4th Power (Now 4th Impact) Their first Audition on X Factor UK which mesmerized the Judges Singing "Bang Bang" (Jessie J, Nicky Minaj & Ariana Grande), Thanks.
Dominika, after 50 years of listening to this song, you pointed out something that I've known subconsciously all the time. Neil's guitar on this track (and many others) has such a meditative quality that it just sends you into your own reflections.
Aztec Empire, reigning from 1502 or 1503 to 1520.They did not get that by shaking hands. The people of Tlaxcala in particular had long been enemies of Tenochtitlan and, after first resisting the Spanish incursion ferociously, they accepted the military superiority of the Europeans and agreed to support them against Montezuma's rule.
Check out his performance from FarmAid 2018, in Hartford Connecticut. Lukas Nelson’s (Willie’s son) band the Promise of the Real was his band that night and the set was 🔥. I think it’s still on the FarmAid channel.
Can’t go wrong with Neil ‘shaky’ Young. Also can’t get a sound like this done digitally. Real analog recording is and always will be the best. *Shakey stands for his kind of broken shakey singing style.
Apacalypto! The horrors of Montezuma! Dont get me wrong, I love the music of this song, but if Neil You g is glorifying Montezuma II, he is historically immature to say the least.
Neil was giving voice to the murdered central and South American tribes who were massacred by Cortez for their Gold & Silver. He was standing up for those who were being taken advantage of.
Thank God! The Aztecs "murdered" hundreds of thousands of other tribes-people on a constant basis. They were so hated that the other tribes joined the Spanish to get rid of the Aztecs. Learn your history from places besides a silly song.
Good music, lyrics utter nonsense. "Hate was just a legend/And war was never known." The Aztecs made war upon their own people with human sacrifices to their gods. In 1487, when about 80,400 prisoners were killed over four days. Young's simplistic, childlike lyrics in the song depict a world that never was.
In Jimmy McDonough’s biography of Young, Shakey, he asked the Canadian troubadour if any of his songs were autobiographical, to which Young responded: “What the fuck am I doing writing about Aztecs in ‘Cortez the Killer’ like I was there, wandering around? ‘Cause I only read about it in a few books. A lotta shit I just made up because it came to me.” ... you could argue that the song is almost certainly an allegory for the end of Young and Snodgress’s relationship... - Far Out Magazine
Well he wrote the song when he was in High School, just didn't record it til this version...it is certainly an idealized vision, artistic license for sure
PLEASE don’t believe the bullshit you find online, as most of it is pure deceit. This is a GREAT sounding song. The pace, melody, guitars-everything-is wonderful . . . Except the horrifically childish and silly lyrics. Cortez may have been a conqueror, but thank God for him in this instance. The people who settled Central and South America certainly had their own way of life, but know that the culture promoted the torture and wholesale slaughter of children. Please understand that this was a culture of death. Cortez, far from some kind of monster, was actually a hero in bringing some semblance of reason and good sense to a people who killed their own children for a Sun god. Neil You g is a great pop-rock-folk musician, but his music is often sidetracked by deceitful politics. It’s nonsense.
Cowgirl in the Sand. Epic guitar from Neil. This definitely right up your alley. Go with the remastered studio version for the best version. His greatest song ever IMO
I don't think I have listened to the remastered version, so gonna check it out right away! But, yes, it's one of his best songs, and that album was my intro to him in 1970. I've been through 2 copies on vinyl, and have it also on CD and even on cassette!
People say Neil is a sloppy guitarist. But they don,t get it thats what makes him great technically perfect guitar playing is sterile and emotionally empty one soul grabbing note played at the right time can break you
Hello guys I thought I'd suggest another song by an artist, I believe you've reacted to before and seemed to enjoy her tunes. So, if interested give this one a listen. "To Love Somebody by Janis Joplin" (Live) (by the channel: cavettbiter) --This was a live performance from the Dick Cavett Show which was a popular American talk show that aired from 1968-1986. It was one of several that invited new artists and bands to come on their shows and perform. I really enjoyed rocking with you two thanks for sharing.
