Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Buffy Ste Marie, Neil Young, Ian Tyson, Sylvia Fricker - and Shirley Eikhard - writer of Bonnie Raitt's "Somethin' To Talk About" - and who walked on just two weeks ago.
🥰 I agree, we do have some great Canadian legend's! 🎼🤠 Ireland has been good for us as well. 🎼Van Morrison ☘Chris Rea....two of many!🎸🎷🎹 Happy New Year 2023 🎉 Stay safe everyone....🗺 Great video W.F. 👍Thank you❣
Thank you so much Ger. Lived in Ireland for two years and miss it so. Hope to go back this year. People were lovely and heard many an Irish ballad sung in many great Irish pubs. The Parting Glass has to be one of my faves. The Pogues music sensation.
This is just vintage Neil Young, his voice is just so distinctive and I just love what he did with this song. This should be required viewing for the younger generation because there will never be another musician like him on our lifetime.
I really love this song. It gives me chills because it describes the fact that two people can love each other, but be on separate paths. The core loneliness, the coldness of this life is presented in a very beautiful, meaningful song that expresses acceptance of disappointment without bitterness.
Love this song and Neil singing it.Also love Johnny Cash version. They are very different in essential meaning. Then again all great songs speak to you as an individual and impact you in a personal way.
My high school music teacher, brought Neil Young music and this song to our high school. We often sang it at morning assembly. Loved it then and now, many years later. Neil Young is a music treasure. To those who thumbs down, you have zero knowledge of great sounds!
I haven't heard this beautiful song in years. In fact I got a taxi this morning and it was on the radio. I knew by the singers voice that it had to have been Neil Young. I said to the cabbie "Man I haven't heard that song in years" He said to me "It's Four strong Winds" So Folks as soon as I got home again I started to look for it. And Found this amazing live version. It's such a joy to listen to it made me cry because of this songs beauty. It's been so long since a song has moved me to tears and it was a wonderful experience. What more can I say..........????
It sure does mate. I had no ideal that Nicholette had passed. Her voice blended very well with Neil's like a fine single malt. I've went a step further and learnt it on guitar and recorded my own vision on my 4 track with bass and drums. Enjoyed every moment of it. Wonderful.......
mark watters That's what it's all about. Can't count how many incredible tunes through the last 4 1/2 decades have affected me emotionally! I believe it's the point of music!
I don't think it should make you sad, life is this way. There are so many things at age 63 that I could wrap up in this song. But I decided to find the hope in this beautiful song
I agree. The song hits your true heart like a ton of bricks. Another great song is Early Morning Rain by Gordon Lightfoot. Anyone who was young and went through similar love immediately feels kinship. Both great Canadian, no just great songs period.
Actually, Ian Tyson wrote it and made it great. Neil does it really well, I think it's one of his best songs, but Ian and Sylvia's version brings tear to my eyes.
"I think you know this guy...eh?" RIP the great Ian Tyson..this masterpiece ranks up there with the timeless classics, & like Stephen Foster's best will be sung 200 years from now...
+SuperCapsfan101 What amazes me is the number of young people who listen to the great musicians of the past generation (like Neil Young) because their music 'sucks'.
Emmylou Harris is absolutely in this, she is the "blonde singer" on the left. The other "blonde singer" on the right is Pegi, his wife at the time. They got divorced in 2015. This performance is from 2005. I can't think of any other performance where he was flanked by Emmylou and Pegi, this was kind of a one off for the film "Neil Young: Heart of Gold", so no, he hasn't been with them forever.
3 years ago I commented on this masterpiece of emotion as I remembered a dear friend- it comforted me then. Now having lost more friends it comforts me again . Thank you those who are here and were there . Treasure, don’t waste another day. Music you are my friends and family now.
when i was 9 or ten one of my eight brothers brought me a portable 8 track player with a neil young 8 track..We grew up piss poor and had no radio or toys. I thought he had the most beautiful voice!! I Love him!!!!!Neil made me who a I am today..I listened to After the Gold Rush ...Love him
That begs the question of why he left Pegi this late in his life. Pretty Pegi reminds me of that Sonny Boy Williamson song The Who used in Tommy. "Her Daddy gave her magic, I can tell by the way she walks. . . . Every Time she starts her loving the dumb begin to talk." I have seen Pretty Pegi sway her hips when she sings. No doubt a woman like her could make a man sing.
@@LearnerChess Billions of people have got divorced. Do you hate on the billions for getting divorced. That's a lot of hate your carrying around with you. Neil has brought an endless amount of beauty to world and if Neil wants to get married 20 times well that's 100% his own business who are you to judge Genius Neil Young ?
@@nickmcgivern2791 Check out Buffalo Springfield. Incredible artists including Neil and Stephen Stills. Later came Crosby, Stills and Nash. I was a huge C, S & N fan. Neil Young did the unimaginable, he made an incredibly great band even greater!
Four Strong Winds - I'm blown away! This is brilliant - I love it when 'senior' musos get together and have fun. They have nothing to prove - they have all the fame and fortune they need and now are looking for the peace. This is fabulous - play it from the rooftops, all over the World and maybe we can leave a better place for our kids.
If you have a huge heart and you have really loved someone, I mean "real loved someone" and have had to earn to live on this earth without that soul mate, then you will cry each time you hear this old canadian, beautiful song.
Agree!! The ensemble of musicians is just beautiful. Does anyone know who the female BV singing harmonies on his left is? She is wonderful!! ELH is on his right, but she her voice is very soft.
Got it! His late wife Peggy. She blends so well with him, even though he often sings off key...have heard he does it deliberately just to shock the listener and make a new sound. :)
Saw Neil and the horse back in 96 in Glasgow, got to be one of the best gigs iver been to. It was brilliant, i was deaf for two days after it, absolutely brilliant, billy talbot ralph molina and frank "poncho" sampedro, what a great rock n roll racket excellent
This is my absolutely favourite song! Yes, I am an oldie and we really rock it out when our ukulele group play it! Who thought retirement would such fun!!!
I love the autoharp in this. What a great tribute to the songwriter. I like Neil Young for the great songs he has written and how he has brought Canada to the world of music.
@@haryadoon Tyson wrote it, but Neil sings (TSOO) it. With all due respect, Tyson's version is a commercial-sounding mainstream hot-mess. Supposedly, he made enough money from royalties from Neil's cover to buy a ranch. RIP, Ian.
Im a filipino and when I was young I hear this song because my mom used to play this every now anf then. Now I'm 42 and I lived in Alberta Canada for 17 years didn't realized that Neil Young is a canadian until I search his name in google long time ago. It was so surreal hearing this song when I was a kid and still loving it until now.
Yes, she died of a brain tumor, New Years Day, 2018, right after Neil married Daryl. Pegi’s heart was so broken, she did her last album, all about her heartbreak 💔
my father and i used to sing this years ago, but it never felt like this, you've outdone yourself Neil, thank you, for such a wonderful way, to play this song.
I listen to this song regularly. Seems to help me feel better when down. I first heard this by the Journeymen but this version is the best… so heartfelt ❤️
I used to listen to this on a cattle property in Western NSW when I was around 9. Best memories. Best music. I’m now 58 and this song takes me right back to my pony, my dog and the peace of the bush 😊
Neil nails this one, no one does it better then him. Love the melody and the harmony. He owns it and glad he did this version one of my favorites "I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way" you snooze you lose, couldn't have said it better.
This reminds me of my father. He’s a huge fan of Neil Young and he likes this song because it was a hit when he took an extended holiday in Canada and America. This was a hit when he was in Canada and it played a lot on the radio. The lyrics reminded him of his mother and father who had both just died.
Heard an interview with Ian Tyson. If I recall, this song came to him easily, less than an hour, and he was writing about a relationship he had with a First Nations girl. It's a heartbreaker for sure!
It is thrilling and almost overwhelming to see and hear all these EXCELLENT musicians, a "Tour de Force," gracing one stage. The beautiful, moving song they perform, "4 Strong Winds," really touches the heart, and every musician is 100% into the song and the perfect performance of it.
Neal young is one of my favorite artist of all time l!,one of neals Best songs is four strong winds!! Hands down awesome talent, with a true heart of reality in life!! Rock on Neal!! Your not burning out,&you will never fade away!!✌️
