Sing-A-Long
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.
Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.
Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.
I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.
Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Recorded 23rd February 1971

Neil is a big model-train collector, and my Dad used to run into him at train shows and ask if he bought anything good. Neil would open his bag and show my Dad his new engine and they'd chat about it like it was no big deal. Just a legend showing my Dad his trains. We used to joke that he'd sing to my Dad, "Old man take a look at my train, it's a lot like yours."

My dad left when I was 12 and I didn't see him again until 36 years later. It was a song that expressed the raw emotions I was feeling about my old man. The song took on a whole new meaning for me later in life.. As fate would have it, I ended up having to be his caretaker for the last 6 years of his life. I am glad I had a chance to get to know and spend time with him. Now I am the old man.

YeahNo101 ? hey i wanted to share with you what Jesus Christ said, He said in matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” wow! and Jesus Christ loves YOU so much, i’m going to bring up these 3 scriptures john 3:16-21: “for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.” romans 5:6-8: “you see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” and romans 10:9-13: “if you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” so God wants to redeem and restore you! He wants to give you true love and joy and peace not only on earth but in His eternal kingdom! but our sins have separated us from God, and the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is in those scriptures, His grace! so if you would turn away from your sins to follow God and put your faith and trust in Him and what He did for you He would gift you His grace which is eternal life in His kingdom where there will be no more death, or sorrow, or crying. there will be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. because He loves and cares for you so much! but if we deny and reject Him, He is just and holy and righteous and will have to deny and reject us of His kingdom. and there will be weeping and gnashing and fire when we’re separated from God, because in God is everything good but without Him is the opposite. there is also a channel here on youtube i appeal to you to watch it’s called “Christ forgiveness ministries” hear what they have to say! God bless you my friend accept Jesus Christ and He will give you true life here and in heaven and give it to you abundantly you His grace. amen 🙌

Hey buddy your not alone. Lost my Dad at 18 years old from alcohol poising. 12 years ago now. Lost my Grandpa 2 years ago whom took my dads place. I can happily say I stuck by his side like he did mine and held his hand in the last seconds. This song hit me like how you say it got you. So happy that there is a song that can touch that pain because at times my mind can not even connect to the pain due to subconsciously blocking it. This song tears that wall down. The pain ironically feels great to feel strangely enough to say as it is to hear from someone who has not experienced.

Me and my Dad used to blast this song, late Autumn nights in the Garage. Him working on restoring an old 1948 BSA bike, me fixing up and modding my small 125cc honda. I didn't realise it then, but they were the best days of my life. The safety. The togetherness. The love we had for each other. It's 8 years on now from his departure. Ironically, he died whilst riding his bike on his way home from work. God I miss him. A piece of me died that day. Yet this song takes me right back, to the days I'll never get back. But the memories I'll hold on forever. These songs are like fragments of existence, etched into my soul, making me relive emotions of the past. Songs evolve in your experience through life. Now I reflect on my old man, reminiscing, and I know one day, I'll be reflecting as an old man myself.

My son joined the Military in the mid 80's and I missed him immensely. I listened to this song all the time. and when he got out of the military him and I worked together and became not just closed but best of friends. him and I and also his mother went to quite a few Neil Young concerts together. this always had a heavy effect on me a lot more than I did on him. he was a great kid a wonderful son and the greatest friend anyone could have. unfortunately I lost my boy to pancreatic cancer and life is not and never will be the same for me again. When this came out I was ten, Neil was 26, and my dad was 60. I thought Both my dad and Neil were old men. I listen to it now, I'm the age my dad was then then; Neil's the same age my dad was when he passed, and my youngest is nearly Neil's age when he sang this. Neil and I are both old men. This song always felt like it was talking about the road in front of me. I listen today, and for the first time it's in the rear view mirror. "I've been the first and last. Look at how the time goes past."

something about the pleasant chords and key , they're like walking through a shady meadow. you can almost hear the babbling brook nearby, and see the sun's rays glitter off the ripples in the water. a beautiful song. whynis it so strange when a young person considers what it's like to get older and what it means to be lonely ..

Clint Holt I can so relate to this, lost my dad to cancer when I was 9, I have few memories of him and those are faint, I too grew up having people say how much I look, sound and act just like him. I'm now 55, took me 46 years to cry over losing him, this song, just wants to make me cry more.

I was 12 when this song came out, and I asked my grandfather for 2 dollars to buy this (and "Heart Of Gold") 45 RPM records. I brought it home and he heard me playing it in my room on my little GE record player, and he kind of laughed and said "Boy, are you tryin to tell me sumpn?" Gramps has been gone a long time, I still miss him very much. No one loved me like he did, and no one taught me things like he did. Not even my dad.

@kortotototoaoaoaoao
@kortotototoaoaoaoao 7 лет назад
@flexor212000 It means a son is young and has his own horizons to look to, his own legacy to create. but a father may have come to the conclusion that his greatest legacy is his children, not what he chased in his own youth. It shows that Neil Young understands this poignant reality that exists between relatively normal fathers and sons.
