Who is listening in 2023? Reminds me of childhood and my late dad in the 80s. Great piece of art Nelly, Goddy, and Sunny. Rest in the Peace of the most high Yahweh...Amen
Memories! As a tiny kid visiting Enugu, I had the good fortune of being in the studio when this song was recorded at Goddy Oku’s Studios in Uwani, Enugu (located at the corner of Grant Street and Ohafia Street). In fact, the guitar accompaniment and solo that you hear on the song was provided by the late great Goddy Oku (founder and band leader of the Hygrades) himself. The song itself was produced by another late great artiste, Sonny Oti (of “Nkosi Nwam” fame), who started the Theatre Arts Dept of Unijos and had several plays on NTA back then. In fact, the male “gbam, gbam, gbam” background vocals was rendered by Sonny Oti. May the great gentle souls of Nelly, Goddy and Sonny all rest in eternal peace.
REMEMBERING A LEGEND Nelly Uchendu, MON (1950-2005) was a renowned Igbo Highlife musician. I remembered as a kid in late 80s, my mum always echoes her songs in our beautiful home then. What a lovely memory!! ... Nelly Uchendu was an unconventional musician, amazingly talented; she was a song writer, content creator and singer. She wrote and sang most songs which contemporary musicians still sing up-to-date. Nelly Uchendu hailed from Umuchu in Aguata LGA, Anambra State but spent all her life in Enugu state. During the time of Jim Nwobodo, she was the voice that sang his praises and later featured in "things fall apart" with Pete Edochie where she acted as Ikemefula's mother. Nelly Uchendu 1976 song "Love Nwantinti" shot her to fame with Six Albums to her credit. Among her songs were; Ezigbo Dim Wakaabout husband Udum Etc This beautiful woman with a golden voice was snatched away by the cold hands of death in 2005. She died after an unsuccessful battle with cancer. she should have been in her 70s if she was still alive. May her gentle soul continue to RIP #BenUgwoke
Aunty Nelly as I fondly call her used to visit us in the 80's.Then she was at the height of her fame. Come the 90's we lost contact only for us to meet again at Enugu during a promo for NIGERIA 99.She was performing & I gladly did back up vocals for her. So beautiful & so talented. No-one remembers me for I was just a back up singer but we shall never forget our Princess of songs. Adieu Aunty.
Richard Tekweck from cameroon. I listened to this beautiful song more than 20years ago when I felt in love with my first girl and today the song has refreshed my memories again
I’m Yoruba and I’ve been searching for this song for years now, wazobia fm used to play this song back in the days when I was in secondary school and it’s always been Stuck in my head🥺. Rip nelly❤️
This chorus is what I held in my mind for over thirty years. Just found this today August 22nd 2024. I still remember the stage music video for this song. Definitely Hall of Fame material
When life was good, cant understand how we got to this stage of chaos, cant believe nor understand how we got ourselves in this mess. Rest in peace ma.
This was when music was carefully composed in accordance with inspirational power and not all these cacophony that comes from negative psychic influences of hemp and the rest.
Missing my Mum so badly now, She introduced me to this Song. What a lovely voice and advisory music from the Legendary Nelly. May She and My Mum Rest In Peace.
This song is one of the songs that made an impression on me as a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s. It was so real because it has a video and i had emphathy for this woman that suffered domestic abuse, that i was so determined that when i grow up and marry,i will treat my wife with respect and not like this WAKAABOUT!!!😀😀 RIP Nelly Uchendu!!!
@@ifunanyaokpala3162 Waooooo what a question 😉. First of all are you related to chika okpala(zebrudaya alias 4.30). Well iam married to this beutiful woman you see at the background after some few disapointments. Life as you know is not always a bed of roses.🌹 Marraige is not also a walk in the Park. I try my best to be the best husband I can be...iam certainly not a WAKA ABOUT. 🤣🤣🤣
I searched this song for a long time. I'm Cameroonian. Nigeria's nature. It seems we have one culture because I'm from west Cameroon and I these are the 'igbo' (Easterners). God bless you all , December 2020.
This song gives me goosebumps each time it's being played over the radio then. My late mum so loves the songs that she recites it each time she's doing the laundry or bathing us as kids. My mum of blessed memory loved all songs of Nelly uchendu from love Nwantiti to wake-about. What a lovely and legendary voice. So sweet to listen to.
Father used to play this on his stereo when I was very young. I loved it so much back then in my preschool days, especially when it was raining, and I and my twin brother were cuddled beneath our warm blanket listening to the sound of Nellie's voice, sounding in sync with the raindrops hitting our metallic roof. Oh how time flies... Life is but a dream. Rest in peace Father.
This was when, in Nigeria, music was done by Musicians, who had to perfect playing several musical instruments, do strenuous voice training, spend months, or even years, constructing the poetry of songs, finding a message to pass on, and finally putting everything together to create masterpieces that transcend time and generations...Evergreens! Today, we have Singers, churning out God-knows-what, from the reveries of warped minds under psychotropic stupor, and fizzling out, sometimes, in less than six months; mass producing message-less dirges and empty, half-baked songs: sex and money.
Nostalgic feeling. Heard this song in the early 80s but never knew the musician name until 3days ago when I searched for the lyrics on you tube and then boom it came up. RIP Nelly Uchendu.
Oh we on same ship 🛳!! May our ship never sink. As long as we have been conscious now. Good luck in whatever you do in life. Happy new month. I just knew her name now.
Oh my God ! Who is listening to this on 7/05/2019 ? I am listening and I'm doing this in solidarity with Tonto Dikeh whose ex husband is aptly and prophetically described by Nelly Uchendu many years ago and also in solidarity with all women and sundry who for one reason or the other entered into regrettable marital Union and therein suffered or is still suffering from it.please let others look before they leap: for all that glitters are not gold!
God bless you Nelly for the legacy of classic like this, my mum plays this classic all day long on her stereo while going about her house choir, bring her so much joy. RIP mum, RIP Nelly
Reminiscing about my childhood in Nigeria..... Thinking about NTA Enugu, Governor Jim Nwobodo and Army Children School Otukpo.... This is one of my father's favorites.... Splendid and Golden voice.... Rest in peace Queen of Music
Memories of my first visit to Naija, I was staying in Aba for a while, I heard this on Radio Rivers 2 and fell in love with this song. Only recently got to know the name of the song & artist. RIP Nelly Uchendu x
Music in any form it's a message. A good one will make a positive eternal Mark on one's heart. As parents cultivate the habit to listening to good music with your children it will go a long way to help shape your children and help them in making a better decision. This music is full of messages that is so relevant in today's life especially now in 2023.
Larry Williams featured in this music video. It was classic… as a young lad then I used to enjoy this music each time my dad plays it. It was a rude shock in 2005 when the news of her death echoed. My her soul continue to rest in peace.
I hope you understand that this song is not critical of young women, it's condemning wife beating boorish old alcoholic men who marry young women by enticing them with material things instead love. The young female character in this song went for love but got an abuser--a despicable wife beating drunk. The song only cautions young women against marrying hurriedly, and to philanderers. You Nigerian men should stop viewing women as your opponents who must be conquered with lies even on RU-vid.
This is when it was about reality and music! The firsttime I see this song on my youtubelist. I love it! It beautiful! Bless my African pipo! This is Igbo sound!
This song make me remember my grandma may her gentle soul rest in peace my nursery school 🚸 days 😂 😂 lol can't forget when life was still fair in Nigeria 🇳🇬
What a song very nostalgic. Thanks for this upload. I had this lyrics in my head all day I thought it was mbilia Bell the sonorous Congolese beauty. Didn't know it was our very own belly uchendu. Lovely song. So much history have been forgotten
B.C.A is indeed a station born to lead.. When I was in primary bca radio always play all this old music.. And my late father love listening to it... Rip Daddy
Evergreen voice, classical soul music blended with story with lots of meaning. A star that continues to shine. Your gospel song HOSSANA( Okem ka Chineke bu) has been my childhood favorite and up till today it's still treasured by me
I know Nelly Uchendu , it's a family talent, her father was a pianist in st thanks church umuchu. Of course Nelly followed family tradition. A natural woman, rest in peace
A wakabout: a random who you haven't taken the time to know well. Hmm. Never you marry a wakabout, no matter how appealing he or she may look. Looks & material things can hardly compensate for daily trouble trouble.
This makes nostalgia leaking off my mind. I'm so full of it rn. It's on repeat. Nelly Uchendu died in April 2005 at 55. May her humble soul rest in peace. It is still her who sang "Love Nwantinti" - released 1976. Nostalgia !!!! OmG
When I was in secondary school in 1980's ,, the song was my favourite,,. there was a school teacher in our compound then who was teaching in oma secondary school who used to play Nelly uchendu songs in her Radio cassette player,,life is transient too...
Wow thank you for bringing out this old song. Reminds me of our youthful days. It's heard in the home were the husband's are cheat or irresponsible 😊 Pls try and be releasing some of the meaning music of olden days, they are better than what we hear now
