So sad to hear of his passing. Anyone could have said his lines but no one could have delivered them the way Nelsan did. He was a real gem. RIP Nelsan ❤️
Awwww LaLa was not well at this point. He died of Congestive Heart Failure and that cough was a definite sign of him not feeling well. So young and such a great talent. RIP
He died from withdrawal syndrome. I been through it myself and I had seizures. If I had been alone I would have died but luckily my girlfriend was home with me and was able to get me help. Going through that is more serious than people assume.
It was his ability to do improv and to make Lafayette larger than life that kept Lafayette to the very end of the True Blood TV series. The book 1 of the book series was very close to the first season of True Blood, but book 2 of the book series began with it being Lafayette in Andy Bellefuer's car in Merlot's parking lot. And from there the show had to keep rewriting the story, Lafayette had to remain he was too valuable. I honestly believe Nelson had so much more life to live & love to give. It breaks my heart.
I've been rewatching True Blood for the first time in many years and, once again, Mr. Nelsan Ellis is the primary reason to watch this show. Lafayette Reynolds is absolutely magnetic.
He really only got one notable role after True Blood and it was short lived. To be type cast is rough enough but to be type cast and unemployed in entertainment is painful. As much as I loved him as Lafayette, I think its unfair how Nelsan was pushed to always be him as if he had no other skill. This man was so talented and well spoken. He DID go to Julliard and was genuinely intelligent. Its profoundly upsetting he was not in more roles and I bet it was because he was to good at heart.
I really didn’t appreciate the way the host treated him like a trained animal. He played Lafayette brilliantly. Only the actor, the artist, has the right to revisit a creation at will.
His cough ..omg .. this was horrible!! I feel so bad for him. He NEVER let it show in true blood. He was always in point! He was AMAZING actor!! Nelson, we miss you!!
Tiffany peters he really was an amazing person! It was a real honor to sit down and get to know him a little bit. Such a shame that he’s gone. Thank you so much for commenting on this video!

Am I the only one that noticed he tightened his lips when asked to do Lafayette?? He wanted to focus on himself as a multifaceted actor. His character is who everyone was interested in. Not Nelsan the man. He was ALREADY torturing himself with drugs and alcohol. No one can see??? Even Richard Pryor bared himself REPEATEDLY. No one noticed. They just want the KneeGrow to entertain them. Without thought for what it takes to become this type of character. No matter what compromises, artistic and demeaning, he had to concede to. To be given the role that his name is FINALLY known. What about ALL his OTHER work!! Even Vanessa Williams said she felt SHUNNED for her blackness many a time. I'm hoping he wasn't just seen as a beacon for LGBTQ??. We are ALL people first. Who we become is shaped by our life experiences. Such a shame it took so long and his accolades are tied to just one SMALL part of what he gave as a black man to bring us all together through sarcasm and a craft, Yah given. 😢😢
Sad to hear about his death, but he was under mk ultra. And the beloved Lafayette character that everyone loved so much was an alter. You can See him switch at 0:43 after the host gives him the trigger phrase “famous”.
Line Bach that’s so sad fame I suppose is such a complex that’s why so many famous people have so many issues they clammer for if their whole lives but when they get they forget everything has a price and being judged constantly and scrutinised for everything can’t be healthy for anyone’s mental health
Line Bach there are laws and restrictions here in England they’re not allowed to print or photograph celebrity children without their knowledge and have to give the celebrity their personal space or they can be fined or even fired
