No sé si esta versión de la segunda sonata de Brahms no es la más rutilante y sustanciosa de una obra de juventud que se haya registrado jamás. Qué virtuosismo, sensibilidad y “nonchalance” hay en este registro. Qué tristeza me ha dejado su partida…hombre humilde (con su cuota de narcisismo de juventud adorable y deseable) qué amó a su tierra toda su vida y que allí, en su ciudad natal descansa…
What a splendid recital! The way he played Albeniz and Villa Lobos!. And in the interval he had some nice words about his connection to my country The Netherlands. So sad he is not amongst us again. He really was a genius on the piano. Unfortunately the piano came after footbal in Brazil, I heard him saying with some humour.🤭
I heard him playing a similar program around this same time in London, Queen Elizabeth Hall! The Brahms Sonata was fantastic! The other pieces I do not remember if he played that evening or not. He played the Triana, that I remeber well, much better on this recording. That evening he did it on the edge of the seat, and it came out aa little bit rushed and wild, what is not the case here! Here it's played pretty fast too, like in the old days, but 100 per cent under control! Perhaps the best Triana? Could well be...
