I've always felt that Mathew & Gunter Nelson were 2 of the most underrated musicians I've ever heard . I got Spotify on my phone & I have a 3 hour & 46 minute play list of their songs . I was 15 years old when they came out with their first album After The Rain & I think it's a crying shame that people didn't take them more seriously as musicians just because people found out they were Ozzy and Harriet's grandchildren . Their dad Ricky Nelson was a very accomplished country singer & if people would have focused more on Mathew & Gunter's music , they could've been just as accomplished as their dad & maybe even more than their dad was .
I'm a tad younger - born in '82 and I was more into Bon Jovi and GNR at the time - but I just saw an old episode of SNL with them playing and they are great. Also Ive seen most all of Ozzie and Harriet and its a great show and Ricky is great too. this music makes me feel YOUNG!
Born in '75, I grew up on Ozzie and Harriet reruns and Ricky's music. After the Rain hit while I was in my introduction to hair metal. I love Matt and Gunnar's music on their own merits. It was just a bonus that they are rock n'roll royalty. They made hair metal acceptable to my mom. That's Ricky's boys, you can go to the concert! They did for hair metal what their dad did for rock, made it acceptable to parents.
Look, as a 17 year old who discovered these guys on Rage at age 8 and recently rediscovered them, it breaks my heart to think just how unlucky these guys were with there timing, and it’s really sad that people made fun of them instead of listening to them and hearing how genuinely talented they are as mussos.
I love Matthew and Gunnar !!! I also love their father Rick and the Ozzie and Harriet show from when I was a kid! Listen to Nelson all the time!! They are both hot!!!❤❤❤❤
A great song the radio never gave them a chance to be a hit Matthew Nelson has a great powerful voice Gunnar Nelson has a great voice both play great guitar like their father Ricky Nelson great guitar player an great song writers all 3 Be good to see Nelson's make a new CD and come back better than ever Matthew n Gunnar get a better chance on the radio and MTV😎🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🏋🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I saw this video for the very first time on here yesterday and got it off of iTunes later :) Great song! And though I know it's him singing in "After The Rain" (I have that CD, as well, and of course, I remember their famous long blonde hair) , I must say, I never realized what a gorgeous voice Matthew has :)
Always loved this song! This is an old song, I remember seeing them perform a heavier version of this song on Saturday Night Live in 1985 when they were known as The Nelsons. I have the video somewhere, when I get a chance I will upload it
Thanks for mentioning what year they were on! This morning I bought the episode their dad was on in 1979! I was hoping to find them in SNL! Answered prayer! Thanks! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I hope their dad got to see them on SNL before he passed that same year! I’m gonna find that episode & buy it! I heard one of them say they were on a couple times! Thanks again!
The song that ignited my live for Nelson when they performed it in SNL. The honor of taking my 10 year old to see them at their tribute concert for their dad and have both give him their guitar picks just cemented my mad love for them!
I wish I had known this video existed when it was originally released! I love the songs and the videos. Wish they would make a serious comeback into mainstream again! :)
The first recording of this song was in more of an alt-country style. Well before the "After The Rain" days they did this song on live national TV dressed in bolo ties and cowboy boots. They called themselves The Nelson Brothers in those days. Next time I saw them was when they had embraced the more "hair metal" power pop style. Haven't been able to record a video of them doing this song in their "country" days.

One Awesome Song enjoys more and more everyday. Thanks. Song on record charts hall of fame. Amazing Song !! A plus. Enjoy video for this song!!!!!!A plus . 👍
I just broke up with my boyfriend this morning. Feeling kinda sad. But he had his issues and I had mine and sometimes you just gotta know when to walk away.
Really good song. Too bad radio never embraced them after the After the Rain cd. You can hear their dad's influences all over this song. Sounds like something he would have done as a stripped down 1960's version with James Burton running a few solos.
My best memory, they "hosted" MTV for a day, about 3 hours. I recorded just them. It was hilarious! 2nd best was when I taught myself to play one of the cello parts from their album After the Rain
Though I try, I can’t decide Won’t walk away, walk away from you Whoa, from you The tears pour down in the nights spent awake Salvation in sleep always seems to escape I look down at your picture in pieces thrown across my room The future was hidden in the cards we were dealt How could you cheat on the love that I felt? I sink my head in my pillow, confused about what I’ll do about you Though I try, I can’t decide Won’t walk away, walk away from you Whoa, from you Can’t you see what you mean to me Won’t walk away, walk away from you Whoa, from you I can’t see an end to the pain that I’m in The alibis you handed me seemed mighty thin Clear the lump from my throat, read your letter just one more time I haven’t been asleep for a week ’cause it seems That I can’t close my eyes, you’re there in my dreams I throw your number in the trash, confused about what I’ll do about you *Repeat Addicted to your love like a martyr is to pain Like a sinner craves a vice and a drug need a vein Am I giving you the blade and begging you to run me through? Well, I’m the type of man who believes in the fight I know what is wrong and I’d die for what’s right I’ll make you understand if it’s the last thing I do Whoa, that I love you *Repeat No, I just can’t walk away, walk away from you Though I try, I just can’t walk away, walk away from you No, I just can’t walk away, (I just can’t walk away) Walk away from you Though I try, (yeah) I just can’t walk away I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, I can’t live without you by my side now, babe

Hey badsmom - Thanks for the heads up on the new CD for the fall. I hope they play around here again. I wasn't able to stick around to meet them after the show which I still want to kick myself about! :) Love their music!
@badsmom I just saw them at a casino about an hour and a half away. I wanted to stay and meet them but the person I was with wanted to leave right after the show. :( I loved the show and they sound great! I can't wait to hear the new CD and hope they have a video to accompany it. If they play anywhere near us - I am going to be there. Just hope the opportunity for meeting them is also there. They are so darned cute! :)
These guys (and many others) were really hit with some bad timing when Grunge came along and destroyed their style of pop. Everything became so serious.
Yeah, I have been a fan of these guys for quite a while (first saw them in 1991 to give some idea) but this song really does have a Rick Springfield sound/vibe to it. Good song.
Ironically, the album Nelson wanted to release, Imaginator, was a lot more hard edged, but Geffen wanted a more pop album, so that one was canned, and this one was written ... just for grunge to kill it. Both albums have their fair share of great songs.
@ladyjugs That is too funny! I used to have Facebook and about one or two weeks ago I deactivated. As much as I would love to check on it I just don't want to get back into Facebook. :) I'll keep you posted on what happens as far as shows near me. I am in Southern Oregon by the way.
Love Nelson but never knew this so I just listened to Runaway on Youttube and you are very right, almost same song title, lyrics, chord changes, perucssion, arrangement. WAH! What were they thining? Gunnar & matthew are talented songwriters..they didn't need to rip off & plagairise another artist. Well even Beatle George Harrison did it so guess even the biggest music talents get writers block & think WTH. I never get over how an artist can steal from one of their own.
IT WAS MATTHEWS WIFE @ THE TIME . HE HAS SINCE GOTTON A DIVORCE FROM HER IN 2009. I KNOW HE GOT REMARRIED HAD HIS 1ST & ONLY CHILD A BOY HE NAMED OZZY AFTER HIS GRANDAD IN 20014.
