Nemophila | 'Dissension' | First time Reaction/Review 

There is some layering on the vocals, you can hear a harmonized backing vocal, but Mayu's screams are legit. They're a new band, but they're not novices. The guitarist on your right is Saki, best known as primary composer and shred goddess extraordinaire from Mary's Blood and a long list of other projects. Drummer Tamu is a highly regarded and well known session drummer with a very long and impressive resume. She's also a composer and multi-instrumentalist. All the members are very skilled players from other bands, current and former, so they're generally described as a "supergroup". They've released 7 originals on 3 eps. They have more originals which they've performed in livestreams, but they haven't been officially released yet. This (Dissension) is the title track of their third ep, and it's their most aggressive song to date. Oiran (their first) is probably their heaviest, but Dissension's the most aggressive. They're really the only two songs where Mayu screams, it's not something she does all the time, or even most of the time, but it's awesome when she does. They formed as a side project to back up Mayu who was looking to start a new band after leaving her former group (Lipstick), and they got together just in time to be locked down due to a global pandemic, so they took to youtube and started a channel where they uploaded live-in-studio cover songs every Friday, plus an original every now and then, and they kind of blew up. 'Cos they're incredible. Very diverse. I highly recommend you check out "Life" next. It's a brilliant track from their first ep, during which they all turned toward Tamu (drummer) and Mayu sang directly to her. It's very emotional. There are tears. Some of them may be mine. This is probably THE new metal band to watch in the next few years. As you saw, they just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. From the gang vocals, you can see they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.” Nemophila were founded in 2019. They are a supergroup composed of: Mary's Blood guitarist Saki ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X) ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and ex-Soramimi drummer Muratatam (also does other projects) Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized Mayu with some help from Saki. They started off posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. Hara-san is the youngest but is clearly a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. And of course Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a one of the world’s best metal vocalists. This song is 🔥🔥🔥. Nemophila are the real deal. All their songs are fantastic, they play a variety of styles and excel at all of them. Mayu’s vocals are amazing and very distinct. I recommend Oiran or Raitei (mv) next.

Great choice Thomas. Newish band, but a lot of experience with these musicians, who just clicked when making music together. You might have realised now that there is deep talent and variety in the Japanese rock and metal scenes.

Japan has lots of great rock/metal bands, including many all-female ones. Aldious are another one worth checking out. Also maybe check out Galneryus if you are interested in a Japanese band that is made up of men for a change. Their guitarist Syu is absolutely insane, but they are all fantastic musicians.

Oh, do their song Raitei, means thunder, and what a thunderous finish, a real banger. Great guitar solos. Fighter such a good hard rocker. Life, a beautiful ballad. Nemophila are so incredible. Mayus voice is sassy and so cool. Saki and Hazuki incredible guitarists. Marata Tamu is my favorite drummer now. Life, you get Mayu giving a beautiful vocal performance and beautiful guitars.,, but yeah, love this band. Nemophila, Band Maid, Lovebites just incredible bands.

New band with experienced musicians...sort of a supergroup. We will hear a lot more from them in the future I'm sure! :)

Nemophila are a tight knit unit and it seems like a beautiful chemical reaction that they have all been thrown together and just clicked as individuals and a band. Check out there covers as well. I dont think Ive seen a band enjoy playing together so much. Check out there Maximum the Hormone cover, X-japan's Kurenai, or there Motley crew or Iron Maiden covers. Understand that the only member that speaks English is Saki, the lead guitarist generally on the R/H side of the screen in their videos.
